best & cheapest anti virus

I use AVG and Malwarebytes at home - free versions of both.

I'm our Systems Admin at work and we run Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes there.

Both AVG and MSE are great free tools (that also have paid versions), but I like AVG better for home use. It updates iteslf quickly and as you run searches on Google (or whatever you use) it often indicates safe or trusted sites.

Malwarebytes is fantastic but you have to remember to update it and run a scan. I try to do this weekly at home.

I used to use all AVG free but started having issues with false positives, specifically on our vista machine. So I have since switched to Avast and I have been very happy with it, there's no reason to pay for good antivirus, there are great free ones. And honestly the number one thing that has protected my computer from viruses is installing adblock plus on firefox. Many viruses love to hide in ads on the regular websites you visit, even places like the disboards!

I've used all of the above posted programs and am now running Microsoft Security essentials,...so far it has a small footprint...works quietly and efficiently...and there are no annoying pop-ups to buy the program. Also check out cnet.com./downloads.

I have used AVG, Security, and Mal. I have gotten viruses with all 3 - Finally bit the bullet and bought Kaspersky last week. I work for the school system also we used AVG too and recently got a huge virus on our county system. It took weeks to clean it up. We now use Kaspersky.
