Help!! I've just arrived at my parents house at the beach and the family room reeks of cat urine. We're staying for the week and have friends coming on Saturday. I want to call a carpet cleaning company first thing in the morning, but don't know who to call. There are so many different types of carpet cleaning companies--steam, shampoo, etc. What is best for pet stains? I need to get the family room and the sofa done. There are tons of local companies in the phone book, but I don't know which is good and which isn't so I'm thinking I'd better stick with a well-known company.

I do mine at home. If it is just for cat urine I use a blue light and get enzyme cleaner at Target, Petco, Wal-mart, etc and soak the area. If you want to use a professional just tell them what you need. They will have to pre-treat it with enzyme cleaner which usually is more.

Well we have a carpet cleaning co, but I dont think were close enough. Just make sure they use enzymes. So many people charge for everything. meaning they keep adding onto the costs because it is not included. call and get a few estimates. Jo

I have had the best results from Sears Carpet Cleaning. I think they use the steam method.

Hey even I feel that you should go for carpet steam cleaning. Even I follow the same process. Those guys are really experts. They did it really well. Now the carpets at my home looks very much like a new one and smells fresh. It looks so beautiful. I am loving it. And enjoy the holiday nicely. Have a blast.

I'm confused? :confused3 Are you suggesting the OP do it themselve's or hire someone to clean them?

I am suggesting you to hire someone . There are professional carpet cleaners available. So its better if you hire them, as they are professionals they do there work very sincerely. Don't be confused man. Go ahead.

OP here...Didn't realize this thread had made it back to the first page. Just to update everyone, I ended up calling a local company that emphasized that they use an enzyme based solution on pet stains. They did a wonderful job and got all of the odor out of the sofa and the carpet.

You can buy a bottle of enzyme at a local carpet cleaning supply co and mix it up yourself and spray to break it down quickly. Thats what I do when mine does the nono . It helps until my DH can clean the carpet. Jo
