We will be traveling to the World for a couple of weeks at the end of May. We are hoping to have one or two days at the beach this trip. Any recommendations? It will be myself, my 63 year old mother, ds9 and dd3. My mother will need a beach chair and umbrella for sure so someplace we can rent these things would be ideal.

TIA!
Jen

Cheaper to go to Walmart or Walgreens and buy the chair and umbrella than to rent. You can leave it behind when you go home.

Some resorts have a stash of abandoned chairs, toys, etc that they let guests use.

dont know if you have a certain beach in mind..its about a 2 and a half hr drive ..but worth it ...to siesta key...on the gulf side south of tampa...cool powder beaches..no sand..its the best i have ever been to..try it

I'm interested in this as well cause we are looking to take a day on our next trip and head to the beach. I am thinking Cocoa beach is the closest but do they have public beaches and are they nice? Also do you have to pay to go there? I know that may sound weird to some people but where I live you have to pay and admission to park in the lot at some local beaches along Lake Michigan.

Sheila - great advice. I had not even considered that!

Brucerob62 - I have actually done a lot of research both on these boards and on the internet and have seen some really nice things written about Siesta Key. I just couldn't find anything about renting chairs or umbrellas there. My mother has arthritic knees and I have had skin cancer scares so those are both important. Even their website didn't say anything. Of course, with Sheila's advice we might not need them!

dgr1973 - take a look at this website. It has some good info. http://www.simplysiestakey.com/beaches.htm

I think it's white sand which is the finest and softest sand.

We took a beach day on our September trip this year. We chose Siesta Key for the day. We had great weather the whole trip, except our day at Siesta Key. It is a great place to spend the day. We also went to Yoders, its an Amish restaurant featured on Man vs. Food. If you go to Yoders.com you can see the video with Adam. I had the Peanut Butter pie and it was delicious.
