Best beach resort between space center/ Cocoa Beach?

The day we return from our Disney Cruise we are doing Kennedy Space Center for the day, but flights are late the next afternoon, so wanting to find a nice beach town and resort to stay at that night. We've never visited the Atlantic coast, so want to make the most of the short time. I would love to have dinner on the beach somewhere as well if you all have good recommendations.

We haven't been yet, but have booked the La Quinta Oceanfront in Cocoa Beach (not the Port Canaveral one) for our pre-cruise night. It is right by the pier, with restaurants & shops right there.
