DH and I will have a night without the kids on our Christmas/New Year's trip. We were originally going to Bistro de Paris but may cancel it in favor of bar hopping at various resorts and also grabbing a bite to eat. Are kids allowed to sit at the bars? I do know we have been to ESPN and Bluezoo and they didn't allow it, but was curious if anyone has seen this happen. We want to have a nice time and be able to talk and we love a bar atmosphere. Of course if the bar seats are filled with children, we may reconsider our plans. Anyone have a favorite bar they enjoy? Thanks!

I've never really experienced a bar at Disney that was totally free of kids, unfortunately. Your best bet for a quiet bar experience is in the middle of the day, when the kids are all at parks and pools.

But I've noticed in the evenings, there are definitely more kids around because people sit at the bars waiting for dinner ADRs.

I do think there is a Florida law that children cannot sit at the bar, only tables in the lounge area. I know I saw children being told they could not sit at the bar and they could not make drinks for the adult until the child went to a table (Raglin Road).

I like blue zoo at the Dolphin. I would be very surprised to see children there at all.
I also like the bar at the Poly and have heard good things about the bar at the Wave.

Ah, I think I misread your question earlier. I've never seen kids seat at chairs AT the bar. So you should be safe there. It might be hard to find a seat though!

I love Tamu Tamu and Outer Rim at Poly and CR, but with people waiting to eat at Ohana and Chef Mickey's, it can be a bit of a madhouse.

The lounge area at The Wave is really nice, though. And of course Raglan Road is awesome toO!

Also Kimono's in the Swan. It's a nice sushi bar with karaoke. I would not expect to see kids there, but since it is a lounge with all tables it is possible.

Yes, kids are allowed at the bars. And yes, I have seen them sitting at the bar. Because I've seen that so much, I am assuming there is no such law in Florida, unless it is new. They're just not permitted to order booze. At Disney World you will probably not find a bar that is always sans children.

Families with children do go to Bluezoo but they do not tend to eat in the cafe/bar area.

My favorite haunts include the California Grill (great old fashions here) and the bar at Poly. I am not sure I would make a special trip to Poly for the bar but we always try to make it to the Cali Grill. The drinks, atmosphere, and flat breads appetizers make it one of our favorite adult hang outs. There are kids, especially for viewing Wishes, but we always have found a place to fell pretty secluded.

I am so surprised there isn't a law because at ESPN a family with children was told they were not allowed to sit at the bar with their kids, they had to go to a table in the bar area. Maybe every restaurant has a different policy??

Thanks for the ideas everyone! We know we can't espape the kiddos :rotfl2: but are looking for the bars that seem to be more for adults.

I go solo most of the time and get a kick out of going to the bars in the evening.

My far is the Wilderness Lodge. A few years ago, I ran into a small group waiting for the other half of their group; they all went to college together and every five years, they met at the World. We had a hoot; they even invited me along to dinner. Alas, I was looking for some "me" time. Anyway, I think I sat there for like five hours, had a fabulous flatbread pizza and several glasses of wine; and read the paper. It was fab-u-lous! I don't remember seeing one kid in there ever.

Actually they are not allowed by FL law to sit at the bar area at all. Here is a link to property liquors laws from the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation:link We have the same law in IL. Is it always enforced? No. I'm sure that people take their kids into liquor stores too.

I remember seeing kiddie night at the Adventurers Club a couple years ago. For some reason, that night had a lot of young kids at the club, and many of them were sitting at the bar. It looked pretty funny to see that, but I would have rather preferred seeing no young kids there.

If I had to pick a bar to hang out for kid-free purposes, I'd probably choose Todd English's bluezoo™.

Barhopping during the day? Now that bring back those pre-baby vacation memories!! :cool1:

Yeah! That's one good thing about not having kids yet, I guess.

Get tired at the park after lunch when everything gets crowded, then go relax at the resort lounge til dinner.

Oh, I hate sharing all our favorite hangouts at WDW. I'm afraid that next time I go they will be packed. We are empty nesters and are often looking for more quite adult oriented places in the evening. So I will have pity on you and share a few. The first place we love is the verandah of the Bellvue Room. I could sit out there for hours and people watch with a great martini. I don't know if this is a fluke, but Martha's Vineyard at BC has always been nearly empty every time we have gone there. To have some great fun, try JellyRolls after 9:00 pm. We always have a great time there listening to the dueling pianos. But it is very noisy. For somewhere quiet, try the bar at Portobello's. We find this restaurant and bar to be pretty quiet. Some of the lounges at the WS in EPCOT aren't too bad. The sake bar in Japan is often empty. Try walking around the WS about the time that people are starting to stake out their place for Illuminations. We find a lot of the lounges there start clearing out around 7:30 or 8:00. Another option at WS is to get a drink at one of the outside vendors and then take it to a quiet place, like the garden behind the shops in the UK. Finally as everyone else has mentioned, the Swan and Dolphin have a few nice lounges that are usually pretty quiet and void of children. Hope that helps!

The Rix Lounge at the Coronado (CSR) does not allow kids after 9 p.m.

I really love the Territory Lounge at WL. My wife and I stopped there every night during our 2007 anniversary trip; we never saw a kid there.

The Territory Lounge is small and dark. It has bar seating as well as a few small cocktail tables. There's also a lounge area with big, comfy couches.

You can order appetizers that seem to come from the kitchen at Whispering Canyon Cafe. We had some yummy nachos!

They have a rather large flat screen TV, too.

This summer we visited the Turf Club Lounge at Saratoga Springs. It was a very large area with just a small walk up bar "window." Kind of odd. We saw tons of kids there, as the room also had a pool table and television.

The pool bars are fun, too, but they often close early in the evening.

My favorite, very unexpected, bar experience at WDW was at the Port Orleans Riverside Resort at the River Roose Lounge. We wanted to go to a bar so we decided to head over there because we really had wanted to see the hotel. We enter the bar and omg was there so much singing and laughter! YeHaw Bob was playing. Here is a link: http://wdw4christians.wordpress.com...sic-at-disneys-port-orleans-riverside-resort/

I just googled him and this came up. I thought it was a fun Disney experience that can be enjoyed by both Adults (we went without children) and kids!
