Best and worst room locations at BWV?

DH, the boys and I are staying in a 1-BR standard view at BWV for 10 nights in mid-July. I requested top floor across from the bus stop, but from what I am reading here, room requests are seldom honored at BWV and are just pre-assigned. This is our first time staying there so I have no experience myself with this.

What are the absolute best and the absolute worst standard view locations for 1-bedroom villas? If you have a specific number, that would be great, but even if it is just a location or a range of numbers, that would be great too! Also, what was so great or so horrible about the room?

We decided not to do online check-in. So, since we are doing standard check-in, would I be able to request a different room once I find out the room number when I get there? We will be arriving around noon probably, but I know the room isn't guaranteed until 4PM anyway so I don't expect anything before that time. But, has anyone ever gotten into their room early at BWV? Just curious about that one! Thanks!

You will be assigned a room the night before or possibility a couple of days before. Your view for a standard view room could be a parking lot or the area in front of the resort which includes the bus stop and driveway.

Standard view rooms are limited in number so the chances of changing your room when you check in is also limited.

That's the price you pay when you reserve a standard view room. :goodvibes

I've stayed in standard view 1 bedrooms 5 times I think. The times I have requested top floor across from the bus stop, I have been pleased. The best 1 bedroom is 2123, 3123 or 4123, that is the larger corner room. I didn't specifically request it, just my standard top floor across from the bus stop. We were in the room next to it once and more in the middle a couple of other times. Good fireworks views. I don't think I would like the first floor, you are basically looking at the lawn and the traffic is closer. I also would not like close to the elevator, you are right above the valet parking dropoff and the DME bus stop. The ones at the end of the hall would be a longer walk.

As far as room time, it has varied from 1:30 to 4:00 in my experience. I don't think it's a case of requests not being honored as much as there are so few rooms in each size that there isn't alot of room for switching assignments. Plus occupancy is usually close to 100%.

I've never had a really bad standard view room. Some of the "worst" rooms (ground floor, close to the lobby - so close to the DME area) are really convienent to the theme pool. And we didn't even notice the DME noise other people have noticed (we do notice the Boardwalk noise).

We had one of those "worst" rooms literally right around the corner from the lobby last October. We found out very quickly that this was a very convenient location... especially when walking back after night-time Food & Wine events. However, we also found out that late at night it's a true sound trap as well. It gets very empty on the Boardwalk and around the entrance to the lobby late at night, and I think many folks just assume they are completely alone... forgetting about everyone asleep in the rooms. We overheard some pretty hilarious things late at night during that trip... from overly amorous honeymooners to extremely drunken loudmouths bragging about their prowess with the ladies. Late at night, you can hear it ALL.

Years ago I was in a non-Disney hotel on a business trip - sharing my floor with some sort of trip for high school girls. After trying to sleep and listening to these girls in the hall, I finally popped my head out of my room with "honey, trust me, he just isn't into you. Even a stranger can tell that."

Realizing that their secrets were being overheard by a middle age strange woman, they moved their conversations into the rooms.

Ask to see where your room is on a map of the resort when you check in. Then, if it is not where you would like it to be, ask nicely if you can move somewhere else(show where you would like to go on the map). Disney is very very accommodating when it comes to that, it is just that almost everyone automatically simply takes what is offered to them, no questions asked.

We've never had what we considered a bad standard view room. Our worst room was when they "upgraded" us to a boardwalk view and gave us a room on the lobby level right by the elevator. As soon as we saw where it was we returned to the front desk and asked for a different room -- we knew there was no way we would get any peace and quiet with that room. They did move us, but it took a bit of talking... I just kept saying we appreciated the thought of being "upgraded" to preferred, but really wanted our standard view.

Were you staying on DVC points or paying with cash when you were "upgraded"?

That may be true for the non-DVC resorts and even for some of the DVC resorts, but it is not generally true at the BWV. They pre-assign most everything all of the time. You will have limited (if any) choice no matter how you decide to do check in. Guests should not count on changing rooms at check in. It rarely happens.

We've stayed in SV rooms (mostly 1 bedrooms) at least once a year since 1999. We ask for upper floor near the bus stop. Only once did we get something totally unexpected. (They "upgraded" us for no charge to a PV room overlooking the leisure pool. I didn't want the upgrade, but the room was ready & DH said to take it, so we did. They had already done it, but the CM said she could undo it. As it turned out, I'm glad we took the upgradde since the front desk really messed up our points doing the upgrade. I shudder to think what would have happened if I made them put it back to SV. Had to get MS to fix everything whenwe got back home)..

Anyway, we didn't always get upper floor, but usually got near the bus top. As others have said, you can find something to like (or dislike) about every room at the BWV. We've been happy with all of our room assignments at the BWV (even the upgraded one, LOL).

Truthfully, the location of the BWV resort is so great and standard view such a bargain, that it's very hard to complain about the views without sounding petty or entitled. FWIW, I think the views from the SV rooms are all pretty good.

Enjoy your trip OP!

It sounds like you were upgraded to the much coveted "Village Green" rooms - technically not Boardwalk View, but those first few rooms right off the elevator. Many people ask for those rooms - but yeah, right off the lobby and next to the elevator might not be quiet enough for everyone.

We were staying on points ... I really think what happened was that a convention came in and took the standard studios so they were giving DVC people preferred views. Either that or they had to take a large group of rooms out of service for repair.

When we went back to the front desk, we just asked to have the standard view studio we had reserved and they replied that there were none available even though we had made our reservation 11 months out.

As soon as we walked in we could hear everything going on in the lobby and knew it was not a great room for us. I think gift shop was almost right outside our door. Fortunately they were able to find a different room - it was the only time we've ever asked to be moved. I'm sure others would find it a great room -- no long halls or elevators.

We stayed in a studio overlooking the Village Greens on the third floor and it had a huge balcony which we loved. We asked later that afternoon if we could be moved to an upper floor closer to the Boardwalk w/o actually being a boardwalk view and they actually had a room they could have switched us to. However, I overheard a young couple next to us w/2 little kids saying they hoped to get a higher floor (they were given 1st floor) and we told the CM that we would keep our view and give the one on the 5th floor close to the boardwalk to this couple instead. They were SO happy!

I've never stayed in a standard view but I've always rented points (except in 1997) and requested pool or boardwalk views.

Carol, looking at the map, it appears almost all the SV rooms are relatively the same distance from the Bus stop (except for rooms farthest from the elevator). Which room numbers/colors do you prefer?

There is a door & pathway leading to the bus stop - that's the area we prefer. The path isn't on the map you provided, but it's roughly located near the water, between the light green & yellow sections.

Although the other sv rooms look close to the bus stop, you need to go through the lobby and out the front entrance to get to the stop. There are multiple stairways scattered through out the resort, so if you can use those instead of the elevators, the area I described is very convenient - close to the pathway to the Studios, the pools, parking lots and the bus stop.

P.S. Those rooms farthest from the elevators are very quiet. We like them for that reason. Most noise at the BWV comes from people in the hallways and the farther from the elevators, the less people in the hallways. :)

We loved our 1 bedroom on the top floor all the way at the end of the long hallway. We had a huge balcony and a view of the water and lawn areas. The parking lot was off in the distance, but the room was in a great location. We would just boogy down the stairs at the end of the building to get to the bus stop or parking lot.

We just returned from a Boardwalk View villa this weekend. While we enjoyed the view, and people watching, the noise at 2 AM from people leaving the clubs was LOUD. I don't know if we would choose that view again. We live in the country where it is dead silent at night, and have trouble sleeping if there is a lot of noise.

Thanks! Great pictures. I just went to Google Maps and zoomed in to see the path. Good to know.

Thanks for the map, now I can see where the elevator is located. We are staying in a studio in Oct. for the first time at BW. I am looking forward to it.

That is where our standard one bedroom was last summer. I didn't think I was going to like it, but I ended up loving it!! We were the next to last room before the door out to the sidewalk. No, you couldn't see the fireworks due to the tree in front of the room but it was a terrific spot. And, it was really quiet.
