Airfare from Kansas City is so much higher than past years. I need some help, have you found any good deals? Please let me know. I have signed up for ding with SW air.

Airfare in general is much higher now that it has been for the past several years. With many airlines losing millions (or sometimes billions) annually, they are trying to get their prices back up to profitable levels.

Just keep watching Ding and for other sales on Southwest. I'd also keep checking on AirTran, they can have some pretty competitive prices as well.

We actually got cheaper airfare through Wichita...if you can believe that lol. It was about $300 less in fact. We are flying out June 7th and back June 13th on AA.

We'll be flying out of KC next July, and I check the SW website daily, just to keep an eye on fares. It looks like it will cost us about $1050.00 for three of us to fly non-stop, round trip to Orlando. There was a special, though, a couple of months ago that dropped the price to $796.00 I'm hoping to see that again come January, when I go to book our airfare! One can dream, right?! :rotfl:

We are flying out of MCI June 9th and returning June 18th. We checked MCI and ICT prices and for us, we were able to get Airtran for $798. That was with alot of watching and praying. When you see a price you want, jump on it!!! I learned that the hard way.

Sign up for all the websites of the carriers that fly MCI and they will send you emails about specials.

Best of Luck!!!!

We are flying July 25 and coming back AUg 4 on Midwest Express. We paid 218 roundtrip. We leave at 550 am and are in Orlando at 11:05am.

If your dates are flexible you should be able to find a good rate with SWA. We are going this June and had considered driving. But SWA ran a sale mid-March and we got R/T air for $135 pp!!! I could not believe it when I saw it, they send me the weekly sales and I always look and get disappointed when nothing good is listed for KC. But this time in March, I could not contain myself when I saw Orlando listed (non-stop none the less!).

So, keep watching. I believe that SWA announces their new sales on Tuesdays, so it is a good idea to check first thing Tuesday morning.

Good Luck to you! Nancy :earsgirl:

Southwest is doing $99 each way right now from Kansas City to Orlando- you can go to southwest.com. It is an internet special (not a ding). It was $168 each way.

We're from KC and now live in Texas and hate the fact that the cheap Southwest flights are available from here. Definitely use SW from KC and Ding is a really great way of finding some good deals!

Thank you everybody I went ahead and booked air out of Jax with American for about $180 which included tax. I thought I had done pretty good but just got dinged and now I could get nonstop with SW for same amount. Any ideas on how to get out of my American tickets?

Most of us said to go with Southwest and you didn't listen to the advice?! :confused3

Dear Nan1217, I do read and consider the comments from others on the Dis. This time I waited 3 weeks before booking with AA. The best I was seeing out of Kansas City on SW, my favorite airline was $160 one way and I was watching ding also, it seemed that even with ding KC didn't get real good airfares. Prior to the 2 posts yesterday the recommendations were as follows 3 for SW, 2 for Airtran, 1 for MWexpress and 1 for AA, I think that several people felt that when you see a good airfare you need to act on it and that is what I did. I am sorry that you feel that I didn't listen to what people said but I feel that I got quite a variety of suggestions. I had already made my reservations before the 2 posts yesterday so I hadn't had an opportunity to consider those comments. I think that all comments on the Dis help others when they make their vacation plans. So hopefully this will help somebody else. :)

Yes, it helped me! I booked out of KC to Orlando on SW's deal this week! Woohoo!! Total price with taxes is $215.40pp. I was actually already booked on SW out of St. Louis (i live 3 hours from both places so either airport would work), but I cancelled STL and changed to KC because I have an aunt who lives there that I can stay with the night before and drive us to the airport! So, woohoo!! I am excited. I still plan to watch the ding and hopefully get KC even cheaper...but this will do for now. :cool1:

No need to feel bad about booking with another airline. You are right in going with the best deal you can find at the time as air prices have been fluctuating greatly right now and you cannot rely on anyone giving a deal. You might check American's cancellation policies, but I don't think anyone has as good policies as SW on that type of stuff. So, if you have to, just stick with your current plans and enjoy! You'll still get there!
