bespoke versus package hols??

Usually organise seperate flights, car hire, accommodation etc but with the ash cloud business thinking we need to change and book a package? Hate the prospect and think we will end up paying a lot more but who know. Looking at Thomson silver and gold villas but not sure about areas - has anyone stayed in these or used that deal/option? Grateful for any advice cheers

Villas or hotels?

Hotels arent too much more with package than seperate aspects being booked with different people.

Villas, not sure about.

It depends if you like peace of mind over money.

it can actually be cheaper to book a package ...

I've just booked with Jetsave for next April ... the package price was just £40 each so a total of £80 for our hotel!

You can't say packages are not much more than DIY or DIY is cheaper than a package. Every holiday has to be looked at on its own.
Last package we did was Xmas 2008, £580pp way cheaper than I could find DIY but then last year DIY cost us £6,000 for Biz class flights, OKW & DDP, 3 x 21 day Disney tix, 7 day Disney cruise. Similar package price was around £12,000.
Also everyones different with choices, I will never fly into Sanford again if I can help it where a lot of packages fly into.
If doing a villa I would want to know the exact villa I was going in but with a package you often don't even know the area never mind which villa.
I also prefer being in control of every part of the holiday myself.
We got stuck in Florida over Easter, had extra 4 days and cost me about £600 (plus 3 days lost wages) which is peanuts compared to the £1,000's I have saved over the years (£6,000 last Aug alone)
The chances of it happening to me again are so tiny I don't worry about it at all.
