What are the benefits of staying on property? Seems like the extra magic hours is really only mins, and on certain parks on certain days? Just looking for something that I may be missing?

Ugh… Depending on which resort/park it’s closer. Less travel to and more park time if at WDW. Disneyland not so much. I do miss the perk of shopping around WDW and having your purchases delivered to your room.

You can book all your dining at the 60 day mark instead of doing it day by day, 30 mins in every park before park opens to general public, 2 hours certain nights at certain parks for deluxe resort guests and transportation to and from the parks and Disney springs. Benefits are pretty minimal outside of “staying in the bubble.”

Closer location, using Disney transportation instead of driving, 7am access for paid LL while off site waits to park open. I am glad that brought back free hotel parking

#1 Reason to stay on property that I see is ... if you plan to drink alcohol, especially at the festivals ... you have the DDBD ~ Disney Designated Bus Driver.

I am mostly offsite and stayed on in Sept because we were doing MNSSHP and I felt it be safer my DS and I bus back to hotel rather than driving that late offsite.

Travel time is usually no saver to stay on property. I can be in my car, driving and in my hotel offsite before a bus even shows up to the park. If you stay at a park resort that would not apply for that park. I tell the story DS1 and I were offsite up past outlet mall, DS2 and friend stayed at POP. We were at MK. I had to take ferry and drive back. DS texted me that the POP bus had just arrived at MK ~ I was in bed.

If you stay on property, are the extra magic hours good for the day of arrival and departure date?

Lots of older threads on this topic. The main advantage is proximity to the parks, so that is part of the reason for the higher price of Disney hotels. Which Disney hotel to choose depends mostly on your budget, personal preferences about hotel 'themeing' and which parks you plan to spend the most time at. I wouldn't stay at the Contemporary, for example, if mostly going to Epcot. Some people like using Disney buses while others do not.

It's mostly about the bubble for us and the transportation. I drive down, so always have my car with me, but I park that puppy and don't get in it again until time to go home. I don't like driving at home, I certainly don't like driving while on vacation. We also like a refreshing adult beverage or two and it's nice not to have to worry about it. We tend to stay at the Dolphin a lot so being able to walk to two parks is huge. While they are not owned by Disney, they get most of the perks of the Disney deluxe resorts.

The biggest draw for me is proximity. Depending on where you stay, you can walk to your me or two parks. That value is priceless, especially at park closing when everyone else is waiting for transportation.
