Benefits of Buying Points at More Than One Resort?

What are the pros and cons for buying points from different resorts vs. buying more points for your home resort. If you buy points from various resorts, wouldn't that ensure that you would not have enough points at any one place to reserve a room at least 7 months in advance?

It seems to me that having points at different resorts would only help by allowing you to have smaller reservations at different resorts. If you wanted to combine points for a single reservation, then you would force yourself to only ever place reservations 7 months in advance because you would never own enough to get a home resort reservation 11 months in advance.

Also, if you buy more points for your home resort, would it be beneficial for your use year to be the same as the original points, or is that irrelevant? Would it make booking more difficult to have various UYs.

Any help with clarifying these issues would be appreciated. Sorry for the long winded and confusing question?
 
We own points at two different resorts. The bulk of our point are at SSR, and we have 100 at BLT. The only benefit that I can see is booking at 11 months out at both. With the 100 points at BLT we can use three years worth of points to book a week in a 2 bedroom at 11 months out. We have the same UY for both.
 
We own at BCV & BLT with same UY. We're currently closing on an add-on at SSR.(same UY) It's important to have same UY so you can combine points to book at 7 months without transferring.
 
We own 2 resorts, SSR/VB. The big benefit is the 11 month window for booking popular school breaks times(Thanksgiving at WDW and spring break at VB).

Also helps to use the 11 month window for 3br units, we've easily booked Grand Villas at SSR for Thanksgiving week(twice) and just snagged a 3br Beach Cottage @ VB for spring break next year.

For other trips, we just call at 7 months and play pot luck have gotten what we've wanted.
 

We own points at 3 different locations with enough points at each for our normal vacations. We stay at AKV in spring, BWV in October and VWL in December each year. All have the same UY to make things easy to manage under one ownership # with DVC.
 
As previously stated, banking and borrowing are what make the smaller contracts workable. We purposefully got our BCV contract as exactly half the number of points of our main contract, so we'd have 11-month booking priority there every 3rd year.
 
we own at 3 homes and they were choosen to secure a standard rooms (which saves points) at the 11 month window. We bought BWV to get a standard room during F&W festival. By booking standard we can go for 2 weeks instead of only 10 days. We bought BLT to get the standard room for the entire family because BLT 2 bedroom sleeps 9 (along with the AKV). No other 2 bedroom sleeps this amount of people (other than AKV) and getting a standard room stretches these points. We bought SSR because it was our first contract, my husband was a CM and the only CM discount was for SSR because it was the resort selling when we bought in so we paid around $70 a point. This is where are biggest amount of points are and we just use these points at the 7 month window to book for January as we are not particular where we stay. Plus I use these points to book rooms for the family when they decide to join us, so again I might be staying at the BWV in a standard room, but will book a preferred room for the family with the SSR points. This strategy works great for us! I do have points to bank every year, generally I bank about 300 points a year, so I start every UY with around 1,000 points (new and old)
 
We own at 3 different resorts, but own enough points (170-200) at each resort to bank one year's points and combine with the next year's points to book a 2 bedroom at each resort for a week. We also have the option of doing split stays each year, if we chose and not bank points. So far, it has worked out great.
