Bendy-Friendies V.4 ... Drinks-A-Plenty with a Side Order of Tasty Food!!!

Anyone ever been to WDW in May? This will be our first time going in "warm" weather season, hoping it's not too hot.

yup... was there in May when I did the PC repo...

It's hot... it was in the 90's and if you are in the direct sun for a long time you'll feel it... but you're from the south and might not feel it as much as I did... (I went from the 60's to the 90's...)

Thanks for the quick response! You never know how the weather is there, much like here in NOLA. This past October was HOT, who would have thought?????

I have a bit of good news to share! Kyle will be leaving LSU and returning home to attend UNO (University of New Orleans). He has been recruited by the baseball coach and will be returning to the pitcher's mound! It's great to see that glimmer back in his eyes!!

Yay Kat!!!

I guess now we have a new favorite college team!!!:thumbsup2

We went in May in 2009 and chose it because we were going with our kids, both college students. We decided to go in May rather than our usual June to enjoy the lower season. We had a lovely first week, but the second was the worst May on record for rain.

We had torrential downpour from our second week beginning to end. Everyone told us that the rain was outrageous for that time of year and May is usually gorgeous. Just our luck I guess. We tend to roll that way. :confused3

May is not nearly as warm as June and that is our preferred time to go. May is no way, now how, as hot as June, July, or August and we have done all of those months, too.

Thanks!!!!! We chose May because my son is also a college student and his 21st birthday is early June. May is a rainy month here as well, oh well....

Our version of Grey Goose Slushies. . . From the Slush Lushes with Love. LOL

Not sure how I put "now" instead of no, but perhaps my Grey Goose post explains it. :lmao: May in Florida is typically not as wet as we experienced. I'm sure you will fare better. That said, we had an awesome time despite the unexpected torrential downpours that lasted seven or eight days. We are definitely used to that--we've had tropical storms, hurricanes, and plain old thunderstorms during all seasons we visit. My suggestion would be, don't book a vacation when we are there--you will be good. :lmao:

Robin, I haven't been here in a few days and just saw your post about Disneyland. We ate at Plaza Inn and the meal is actually called Breakfast with Minnie--we saw Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore, Piglet, Capt. Hook, Rafiki, Fairy Godmother, Minnie, Max, Chip, and Dale. (last year we saw Gepetto, too). They serve all the hot foods to you, only the cereals and fruit are out, so it's not so much of a free for all. You get your own drinks instead of being served like at Crystal Palace. I highly recommend it!

I think we will be going fall break and I do love the Halloween party and F&W. Last year's April weather was the best!

Yay, Kat for your son coming home!

Tess - loved your slushies! Recipe, please....

Has anyone started a list of when the friendies will all be going to F&W? Because of Bob's job situation we don't have anything booked yet, but the girls have been making noises about possibly going anyway. They say we need to make plans and it is time to ask about vacations at work. So, when are y'all going??

Elin, first week of October (as always!) The Half Marathon is that first weekend and Diana plans to be there -- she's also thinking of bringing herBob and her 2 girls. My 2 older kids might be there for the Marathon and JD & Tori might come too!! ;)

I'll stay until Oct 8th or 9th. :cloud9:

I'll be at Dolphin the first weekend -- will move to a DVC after that! Travelocity had an awesome deal of $107/night and Dolphin matched it for me! :yay:

Well, those dates don't line up very nicely, now do they?!? Well... unless we plan to go for the entire month.

Your rate at the Dolphin is terrific, Laura! The best prices I can come up with are $161 + fees with the AAA discount. I need to find out what they would require from me to prive that I am a teacher. That might help too.

I actually had an AAA rate for that weekend that was better than the Teacher rate. :confused3 The Teacher/Nurse/Government discounts have only been about $20 off the normal rates. I'm hoping that's not the new trend, but Swan/Dolphin are still a good deal - location is everything during Food & Wine! ;)

When I found the Travelocity rate, I called the Dolphin's 888 #, the CM put me on hold - they search the online rates - came back on the phone and said "$107/night!! We'll match it!"

I have a U of MI photo ID, but I know they'll also accept a pay stub or something on the school's official letterhead. :thumbsup2

I can't take credit for the Grey Goose Slush recipe. Ron found it in the recipe exchange here on the boards. I'll re-post it here for anyone who is interested:

Grey Goose Citron Vodka Slushie
Drink Kiosk by France, Epcot

3 cups Grey Goose Citron Vodka
1 cup *Polynesian Pleasure Lemon Frozen Drink Mix from Florida Natural Flavours in Casselberry, FLA
Ice if making in a blender or water according to manufacturer’s instructions for slush machine.

Mix Vodka and Polynesian Pleasure Lemon. It helps to chill the mix before putting in a slushie machine. Add the required amount of water for your machine (generally for 1 liter alcohol you use 1 ¾ gallon or 28 cups water.)
If making in a blender use enough ice to produce the slushie effect.
* can try substituting frozen Minute Maid lemonade

Grand Marnier Orange Slush
Drink Kiosk by France, Epcot

3 cups Grand Marnier
1 cup *Orange Fruit Smoothie from Florida Natural Flavours in Casselberry, FLA
Ice if making in a blender

Same instructions as for the Lemon Slush.
*If substituting the Orange Fruit Smoothie try for something with an orange dreamsicle taste.

We plan to order the mix mentioned in the recipes, but tried the frozen lemonade last night. I added maybe 1/8th cup of sugar to give a sweeter flavor and I have to admit, the drinks were pretty darn close in taste to those at Disney. I have also read where others use Sprite to give the slush a bit sweeter taste. I made these in the blender and used about 2/3 of a pitcher of crushed ice and blended everything until it was slushie.

We are headed to F&W from 9/30-10/8/11 and can't wait! :cheer2: Have a lovely Sunday!

Happy weekend everyone! I posed a blog update for you if you're interested: Sage, at the Aria in Las Vegas.

One of the best stops we made all week!

SAGE!

I just got a text from Elin. Bob was admitted to the hospital late last night. He's had a CT scan, blood tests and an MRI. It took doctors quite awhile to make the diagnosis: Bob had a stroke, in the brain stem which controls speech, breathing and swallowing. He is sedated and intubated. Elin is still at the hospital; Kristin is with her. I think she'll be going home soon to try to get some rest.

They will do a follow-up CT scan tomorrow to assess the damage.

Elin will update us when she can.

I know Elin, Bob and their girls will appreciate and gain strength from our prayers and good thoughts.

Elin, we love you. :grouphug:

thanks for letting us know... I will tell the friendies to check the thread so they know (over on FB...)

Sending lots of love and prayers your way Elin!!!:grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:
