Feel better! I hate Nyquil ... have hated it ever since my mother gave it to me when I was 12 years old and suffering with what turned out to be a raging case of strep throat.

Bendy wants to know why there's been nothing announced about that review contest. She suspects that it was canceled and has decided that she is not supposed to win nor would she be allowed to win. This disgruntles her because she spent many hours polishing her submissions and also because two friends (one on-line and one in the real world) spent much time helping and encouraging her to "go fer it."

& since I take such good care of my mom... I treated her to dinner before SHE treated me to MY Xmas gift... a concert with Linda Eder...

Now... I don't know if many of you have heard of her... she's been on Broadway, done some stuff on Disney - was the entertainment on either the 1st go round of PC cruises and the 1st TA's cruises... along with Jim Brickman and Boyz2men... (we got stuck with Joey Fatone... but we were supposed to get Donny Osmond last May...)

I picked up a book yesterday at Borders that I've been wanting to read for some time: Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer. It's his account of the 1996 Mt. Everest disaster in which several members of different climbing parties were lost near Everest's summit in a sudden storm.

I'm not an adventurous person ... it took a lot of encouragement from Jay for me to go parasailing a few years ago while we were on a Disney cruise. I loved it once I did it but I admit ... I was scared. I do not seek thrills outside of the theme park ... it's just not in my nature.

Anyway, I'd seen a series on The Discovery Channel a few years back about an expedition of climbers who were trying to reach the summit of Everest and it was fascinating ... for the life of me I can't understand what drives these folks to do what they do and to subject themselves to so much suffering while they attempt to do it. I respect their determination and courage but I think they're all probably certifiable.

The book is a great and very sobering read - hard to put down once I started reading on my lunch hour yesterday. I'm about halfway through ... probably will finish tomorrow. If you haven't read it and are at all interested in this kind of thing I highly recommend it. It's fascinating ... I know I keep using that word but it's the best one to describe what I've read.

That is a good book. His Under the Banner of Heaven is also good.

My ds and I went parasailing together when he was 7. He was freaked, and then had the best time!

Linda Eder has such a wonderful voice.
I admit to seeing Joey Fatone 3 different times when he was in Nsync. And Donny Osmond in Joeseph.

What do y'all think of Biergarten? I'm having a hard time deciding where to eat on Epcot days for our Dec. trip. I'm thinking it would be fun, but how is the food really? I do not eat any kind of cased sausage product, if that helps! (not even Jimmy Dean sausage links) I'm finding myself wanting to go back to the same places I already like, but I feel like I should branch out a little.

Here's what I'm thinking for the rest of the trip for sit down meals:

Day 1, MK--CRT lunch
Day 2, EP--Rose and Crown dinner
Day 3, DS--50's Prime Time lunch, Beaches and Cream dinner
Day 4, MK again--'Ohana dinner
Day 5, visiting resorts for Christmas decor--maybe Kona breakfast or tea room lunch at GF instead, Jiko dinner?
Day 6, EP again--

There's so much Christmas stuff I want to do and see, it seems I'm having trouble finding time to eat! Thought about the Cp package for one night in Epcot, but the prices are killing me, knowing what we'd probably spend just for a regular dinner at one of the places. I'm thinking maybe we'll try to do the standby line on the first EP day since it's a low crowd day. The 2nd Epcot day is supposed to be a 9 on the crowd calendar.

We have our favorites too, but try and slip one or two new experiences in each trip-its tough to stray from your normal routine though. Last year we did the CP at Rose and Crown on Christmas Eve. We eat like wild hogs on vacation so doing the CP package actually made that dinner the cheapest we had done the entire trip. We haven't eaten at Biergarten in about five years, but I'm not a sausage eater either and there was plenty to choose from still.

I might have to check this book out. Every so often I find myself watching some kind of special on Discovery or National Geographic about mountain climbing, altough I have to say I personally have no interest in being a participant. Certifiable is essentially what I thought of the folks that do it. I'm in need of good reading material right now, so I'll have to take a peek at this when I hit Barnes and Noble next time.

Just wondering ... would you guys be interested in seeing pictures from the 2007 Flower & Garden Festival? I realized the other day that I never shared the pictures we took when we were there for our anniversary because I never finished the TR ... I just did the food reviews.

Hey, did you hear that the bill to allow TN residents to purchase wine out of state and bring it home, passed the House! Somehow, we were not aware of breaking the law when we bought wine at Biltmore or Harris Teeter in Asheville and brought it home.....Now if they'll just get it in the grocery stores.

Speaking of Biltmore, we are taking whogirl for her birthday in a couple of weeks. Shhh, she doesn't know yet.

Jamie the wine smuggler? I'm jealous your so close to Biltmore. I wind up making an annual pilgrimage there to load up on wines because the lovely State of NJ won't allow shipments in directly from the vintner. I love their wine tasting room...awesome. By the time I get to the shop, I'm significantly tipsy, which further helps my spending. I'm sure they planned it that way. I was planning to take the kids there in another week for Spring Break...still trying to work out the kinks of the trip. The only thing we plan way in advance is Disney.

Hi, y'all! I've been trying to catch up with everybody on the DIS, and I'm excited to find this thread. It's tres cool!

I really hope we're able to join in on the October 2009 - WDW Greet and Meet and Drink and Eat! I'll tentatively say we'll be there 10/17-24, and I think we'll probably stay at POFQ. I tentatively can't wait!

Our group of Twilight readers got together for a Twilight DVD Party on Saturday.

DD did a great job with the theming. Everything was black, white & red like the book covers. Here's some food pics, I'll put people pics on FB later.

Aren't the glasses cool? DD dipped them in a warm candy (like candy apple stuff). I made the Sangria, I was so excited to find blood oranges at the grocery. I also fixed bloody mary's.

The reddest salad fixings I could find. Red lettuces, red cabbage, tomatoes, dried cranberries, sweet/spicy walnuts served with a raspberry cabernet vinaigrette.

DD's Cookies with raspberry filling.

Didn't really fit the theme except for the color & who doesn't want chocolate covered strawberries!

DD also fixed Wolf Kibble which was chex mix made with peanut butter & chocolate.

It was a really fun Girl's evening! I enjoyed the movie but I think only fans of the books would like it.

Love this, Shovan! How fun! I'm fairly obsessed with Twighlight. I've watched the DVD like 8 times since it came out....

I read this book many years ago and couldn't put it down. As you may know, during this fateful climb an Imax team was also on the mountain and the 1998IMAX film contains footage of "hobby" climbers that are in the book. It's a spectacular film and brings to life all the things you read in the book. Well worth renting the DVD if you can't see it in the theater.

I love the Twilight food pictures, I love that book series, and the movie as well, and am so excited for New Moon in November.

I'm going to be making Easter candy today. I'm not really doing Easter baskets, since the youngest person who will be here is my sister, and she's in her twenties now too, but I'm going to do one big basket for the whole family, though that's going to be more of a decoration. I did find the cutest little stuffed bunny though for $3 that I got for it.

Today I'll be making coconut truffles, chocolate-covered peanut butter eggs, and molded chocolate in the shape of bunnies and flowers and stuff. I'll also be doing dyed eggs, though I'll be waiting until the weekend to do them.

Wow! I'm impressed! Homemade easter candy! Yumm! I just bought a bunch of way over-priced chocolate easter bunnies for my family at the Whole Foods today. I almost fainted at the register.... They better be good, that's all I'm saying....

I did all the hard work, but I ran out of coconut that I was rolling the truffles in, and I didn't melt enough chocolate for all the peanut butter eggs, so I'll do that tomorrow or Wednesday after I have a chance to get to the store. Rezzaz is in Biltmore Village. There are a lot of great restaurants downtown, too, especially around Pack Square. Tupelo Honey is another favorite of ours. It does suck that they don't sell Biltmore wine where you live. I wonder why?

I'll have to check Rezzaz out. I'm hooked on Biltmore's Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Merlot. I've asked my local wine guy if he could get them for me by the case, but to no avail. We seem to have issues getting wines from the small vintners like Biltmore, Thomas Quady and a few other ones that I like. I'm sure its on NJ's end because we are one heck of a screwed up state. It sure would save me the annual pilgrimage though...cause once you've seen the house and estate a few times, it becomes old hat, although still gorgeous. That 12 hour drive kills me.
