Belly Up to the Bar With Bendy and Her Friendies!!! Button Pics & New Thread Started!

Drive by posting ...

I hate traveling for my job ... screws up the whole week and my delicate constitution. ;)

Busy crazy insane at work ... random phone call with a job offer for me from a rival bank (I'm not even looking) ... now I need to decide which stress I'd rather deal with: new job / you'd better be as good as we think stress or current dead-end job with the let us pay you for one job while you actually do four stress.

:lmao::rotfl2:

how much money is worth the switch I wonder? :confused3

Happy birthday to Chelsi and thanks for the lovely pictures! I'm so glad you had such a wonderful 40th!

And I saw posts from some new friendies ... thanks for stopping by! :goodvibes

I think I'm going to go to bed now. Oh ... we're supposed to attend a beer / food tasting this weekend - all Boulevard Brewing beers (they're a KC brewery ... some of their specialty stuff is pretty good). I'll let you guys know if they have anything worth talking about.

Actually ... we've become very fond of the Unibroue beers ... just what I need to help me not lose weight! :rotfl2:

Is the job offer something you are thinking about?

First question to ask - "How much vacation time do I get? you do know I must keep up my side job as a Disney food critic" :lmao:

Enjoy the wine dinner and beer tasting and I'm sure you'll get yourself motivated to lose those few pounds that you want to lose.

I was at the opening of Disneyland's Food and Wine Fest yesterday. I wanted to post some photos for you.

We had a great time. It is getting better every year. What Disneyland does better is the free classes. The wine and food seminars are great. The wine speakers are usually the wine makes or the winery owners like we had yesterday and the "stars" still do free demos. They had Robert Irvin yesterday and we did not go but could have gotten in 1/2 before. It was a free 1/2 with him doing a fish and then he signed books for free for an hour.
The part they do NOT have even close to the WDW Food Fest is the "festival" food. Basically special food items are offered at 8 places through the park. Every place has a different item and they considered meals, appetizers or dessert depending on location. These items are EXPENSIVE compared to the food booths and small. Most place serving them don't know they have them or what they are so you have to search them out. They finally put out signage for the items at 1pm.
Also I have been asked to look for recipes for anything with the festival and so far I have seen nothing but I will be back and continue to look.

So on with the pictures -

Me outside before California Adventure opens. They had some media stuff set up.

This is ALL the merch. they have for the Festival!

We did the 1st Food demo of the day. It was to be on French cooking and the chef was from Cal. Adventure. Well, it was on cheese and only two of the three were French. As with most of the free stuff at both parks west and east coast, people really only go for free food but I was sad because I do like to learn something but.. I got free Purple Haze so I am a winner!;)

OK! Here are the two food items Jason and I tried!

DisneylandFoodandWine2009-1083.jpg

This was 8.99! To meal this was the deal compared to the WDW Lobster Roll that is 7.00! Dinseyland's is bigger and tastes good - bread was dry but you do get all this and a bag of chips! ;)

Kimchi tacos - these are fantastic but two street tacos for $11.00 :scared1:

All and all we had a great time and will be back. Sorry for the rush job review - we are on our way out but wanted to get this up and say hello!
Benda - sorry about the grammer and spelling mistakes.. I am sure I have many! :guilty:

hiya friendies!

the beer tasting this evening was quite good. :thumbsup2

we went to dinner afterwards and it was quite a disappointment ... :scared:

the lesson is: don't go to a "Irish pub" in OFallon expecting pub fare on par with what you get in WDW. :rotfl2:

Did I take pictures?

yes.

Will I have more to say?

you betcha.

Dinner was so not-good that we couldn't even stick it out for dessert. :lmao:

WOW, Kimchee Tacos?? That's some strange sort of fusion going on there. What's the other ingredient Korean barbecue meat (Bulgogi)? After McDonald's in Seoul, they have Bulgogi hamburgers and they were quite good. As a matter of fact, we were surprised how good the different items in the Asian McDonald's were.

So was that first food demo only showcasing cheeses and not doing any actual cooking? Loving your reports and you look absolutely adorable.

Settling in to watch one of my all-time favorite movies:

The Lion in Winter

I never get tired of watching this movie ... and it's got one of the best insults ever delivered by a grown man wearing tights:

"You turd!"

:lmao::rotfl2:

Ohhh Bendy... you're expecting WAY too much out of that cheesesteak and flat fries you get at a normal local "pub..." :rotfl:

Kabuki- thanks so much for sharing pictures of the Disneyland festival. I am looking forward to the WDW festival later this year!

Somewhat off topic but what's up with Robert Irvine? I thought he was fired from Food Network and in all kinds of trouble for lying about his resume but now I think he's back in favor and back on TV? :confused3

Brenda- looking forward to hearing more about your night out. Couldn't stay for dessert? :scared:

He was replaced with the New Iron Chef guy, but the ratings dropped like a rock.

So they brought Robert back and "corected" his resume and vioila- ratings are going back up

It was more like Carne Asada meat and the sauce seemed like a spicy garlic. I have had Korean BBQ meat and it wasn't as flavorful. I would love to see what the Asian Mc Donald's are like. I have heard what you report about them from other friends who have gone!
No cooking at the 1st demo. It was sad but the cheeses were good and he gave hints on how to store them and serving temps. I wanted more but people seemed to get something from it so I just enjoyed the cheese! We will be back I will keep looking for recipes for you! Maybe next weekend or when we go they will have the stuff more organized!

I am happy you like the pics and we are also very excited about the WDW Fest! I know things change every year but we ALWAYS love it!

I definitely expect too much, but I think that for what this place was charging that's not unreasonable.

I will qualify this ... Jay's entree was actually pretty good but everything else was ... "meh."

They were trying too hard to be trendy instead of sticking with good 'ol tasty, filling, friendly pub food. My opinion, of course, but Jay agrees with me on this one (and believe it or not we don't always agree ... ;)).

I'm still reading posts from Friday as I was away for the weekend. Sorry if I'm talking about things everyone has moved on from!!!

Brenda, I love a Mimosa.......................I think I will love one more with Grand Marnier. I NEVER THOUGHT OF THAT!!!! The book (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies) I've read reviews and am intriqued!!! I read almost anything.......please let me know what you think. Lastly, the second picture of the 2007 flowers. Was that suposed to be a spider? Wierd.....that's what I see! :confused3

Kubuki, Of course we want to see your pictures from Napa.....post away. Happy Birthday and GREAT HUBBY!

Mimosas taste better to me with Grand Marnier ... kind of smooths out some of the acidity from the OJ. As for that picture ... I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be a butterly, but I agree that it looks like a spider. Ick!

Haven't read the book yet ... I think I may wait until we have a travel vacation and pick it up then for some lighter reading.

Hey Chelsi! You share a bday with my son Drew. :cake: Another Earth Day birthday! Your plans sound great. I'll be thinking of all the fun your having as I sit through Drew's driving road test that day (biting my last nail).

Happy belated birthday to Drew! How'd he do on his driving test? :goodvibes

Kabuki, thanks again for sharing all of your wonderful pictures with us and happy belated 40th!

I thought I'd share two links with you guys ... I've got two reservations in place for our stay-cation in May:

The wine dinner at Soulard's ...

Soulard's Restaurant

And a dinner at Monarch (this restaurant's web site is a little on the annoying side) ...

Monarch Restaurant

We're also still planning on having dinner at the Scottish Arms during our stay-cation as well, but their website has crashed so I can't share it with you right now.

YUM!!!

Just finished up a nice afternoon snack of hot pretzels and beer ... Maudite from Unibroue. I gotta tell ya, we are hooked on the Unibroue ... not to be confused with ...

Unibrow

That's pretty pitiful offerings, but hopefully as time goes by and popularity with the CA festival gathers steam, maybe everything will improve with food & merchandise offerings. Sounds like WDW is definitely beat on the demos though.

Uh oh, bad food alert! Sorry the meal wasn't so great. Looking forward to the review anyway. I can appreciate the good, the bad and the ugly. :rotfl:

Happy belated birthday to Drew! How'd he do on his driving test? :goodvibes

Thanks! I'll pass along your well wishes. Drew actually reads your blog and enjoys it a lot-although he feels weirdly stalkerish at the thought of leaving comments. He aced his road test, however I think I will need several years worth of sedatives now. A 17 year old testosterone pumped boy behind the wheel is a mother's worst nightmare. :faint:
