Belly Up to the Bar With Bendy and Her Friendies!!! Button Pics & New Thread Started!

Now I'm thinking about ADRs for October ... Disney has me so well trained that even though we can't make them until July I'm already trying to puzzle them out so that the F&W Festival can set them on their ears!

Actually it's the days that Dylan & Jen are going to be with us that are the ones giving me a bugger of a time right now.

My very very very rough dining draft looks like this right now:

October 14th - (J&B arrive early afternoon) ... we're looking at lunch at Chefs de France and then some F&W reconnaissance before heading over to the pool for a late afternoon snooze in the sun. We're going to bite the bullet and try Yachtsman for dinner around 8PM.

October 15th - It's an Epcot F&W kind of day. We'll have breakfast in the room or over at the Boardwalk Bakery and then begin the first of many days of food booth snacking. We're going to take our customary afternoon break and then head over to Kimonos for some sushi for dinner. If we finish up early enough we'll head back to Epcot for Illuminations and then perhaps a late night No Way Jose at Beaches & Cream.

October 16th - Something that I don't really know about is happening early this afternoon. And then we's planning on dinner at bluezoo around 8PM. It's a mystery wrapped inside an enigma in a riddle ... or something like that! :lmao:

October 17th - Gawd help us all it's my 40th birthday!!! We're thinking of trying the breakfast buffet at Fresh (Dolphin) since Spoodles will no longer be a viable option. After that we're totally up in the air ... do we have dinner at Jiko? Bistro Paris? Do we splurge at V&A? Do we go to PFTS one last time?

The only thing I do know is that we thought it would be fun to see if any of you DISers want to meet up for a drink at the Beach Club around 9:30pm? BYOB and we'll supply some birthday cake!

October 18th - DylJen arrive! We're trying to give them a taste of some of the more unique dining offerings at WDW without breaking their budget. So we thought we'd drag 'em over to Sci-Fi for a lunch of burgers, alcoholic shakes, and cheesy 1950s movies. Dinner may be at Rose & Crown since Dylan has always wanted to eat there.

October 19th - I think we may have Kona for breakfast this morning. The nephew and the hubba are jonesin for Tonga Toast and as long as I can get real coffee in a WDW restaurant I'm a happy girl. This may be the day that Jay and I choose for our Drink Around the World Redux and we'll give the youngsters the choice of watching us make total donkeys of ourselves or going off on their own. If we survive this attempt (and there's no reason to suspect we won't ... we're already planning this one carefully - it's going to be a riot on paper once we get home) then Jay and I think Flying Fish would be a yummy way to celebrate. Thinking of sending DylJen to Tokyo Dining (he's a Japanese fiend).

October 20th - Up in the air but there has been some chatter about going to MNSSHP that night. And Jen is a big fan of tea. Do you see where this is headed? Afternoon tea at the Grand Floridian as late as possible with four dorky adults dressed up for the Halloween party?
And this way we'll still get our hotdogs from Casey later in the evening! What will happen earlier in the day in terms of food is anyone's best guess at this point.

October 21st - It's a blank slate.

October 22nd - DylJen's last day. Jay and I said we'd take them to dinner at one signature restaurant during their visit. Jen suffers from intestinal troubles but she's not taking drugs ... I think she's got something more along the lines of Irritable Bowel Syndrome rather than an actual disease like yours truly. I only mention this as a distinction, not to trivialize her troubles. I feel for her because at least I've got something to keep my issues "controlled" and I know a lot of my triggers. She's so picky she makes me look like I'll eat barbequed shoe leather with a side order of rusty nails. :lmao:

So that rules out almost every signature on property with the possible exception of CA Grill, Jiko, and Citricos. My gut (ha ha) tells me we're going to end up at CA Grill, which would be a nice experience for them and I think a nice way to end the trip. And Jay and I have already said that we'd both take a different approach to the menu if we do end up dining there - we think we're going to keep it appetizer heavy and force ourselves to try some new items.

October 23rd - Our last day and a truly sad goodbye since we will not be back in 2010. I imagine that we'll spend a lot of time at Epcot and if we haven't already made it to Jiko or Citricos one of those will likely be our farewell dinner.

Lots of holes to fill, I know ... I'm really thinking out loud right now and I don't want to overschedule DylJen. I think they're most looking forward to eating around Epcot so I want to give them plenty of opportunity to do so. The only other things that they've mentioned is playing Fantasia Minigolf (poor Dylan ... he's been trying to play that for years and the weather always craps on him) and THE KITCHEN SINK at Beaches and Cream!!! :scared1:

Thanks for letting me share!

I love your dining picks Brenda. All the good places! ;) We ate at Yachtsman in October (first time in a long while) and it was really good. We enjoyed it a lot, so hopefully you and Jay will have a similar experience. It probably totally helped the experience too that I got totally smashed on sangria while we were there.

Now you guys are starting to depress me. Brenda & Jay, Michelle & Steve...who else isn't going in 2010? :sad1: Oh well, I will just have to suck it up and eat and drink myself senseless for all of us I suppose. :drinking1

It sounds like your plans are starting to shape up. (I have redone the ones for our October trip two or three times in the past week or so.) I look forward to your ramblings as things start to firm up over the next few months before July Madness.

Your choices are looking good so far, Brenda. I hate I'm going to miss everyone, we've got quite a group going in October! I realized yesterday that I'm usually making adrs in a couple of weeks and this year I can't make them till SEPTEMBER! I have nothing rattling around in my head yet except Akershus for lunch one day (did I mention our friends are going with us with their dd8 and their 17 y/o son and his friend? I think I did.) One helpful thing is their dd is deathly afraid of costumed, masked characters so it doesn't look like I'll have to do a bunch of character meals this year! This planning for a group is new territory for me.

I cannot wait to hear about afternoon tea in costume! You should do Alice in Wonderland since you're going to tea.:rotfl: Or you could each just dress up as your favorite alcoholic bevvie....

 Just a quick drive by as I'm, once again, late getting ready for work.

Just wanted to say, I've had breakfast at Fresh a couple of times and really enjoyed it. :thumbsup2 I'm also PO'd about Spoodles, as it was on the list for a breakfast and a dinner in September. :sad1:

I agree 100% with the above post! :thumbsup2

Brenda, Thanks for the banking info. DBob is a computer geek, so that is well protected.

On the ADR's, have you chosen a day for the Meet? Duh! I see that B-day is your choice for a meet! I'll have to take some time to start planning ADR's. If everyone is on board for that, I'll work around it.

How many of you are going to do PFTS that day (the 17th)? If it's a bunch, we might jump in one more time.

Glad to hear you & the Jayman were able to enjoy a day off, even if it's still in Stinktown!

Why do you have do wait until Sept? We can start in July right?

Shovan,

Please DO get that recipe for wolf kibble! It sounds like MY kind of chex mix!! Not that I'm a wolf or anything! :rotfl2:
Thanks, Diane

I've asked her for that recipe & the one to the glasses. I'll post as soon as I get them.

Brenda! Jason and I would love to join you for a B-Day Drink. We will be stumbling back from PFTS that night so who knows what shape we will be in but hey.. we will be good for a point and laugh if nothing else! :)

A&A's Grammy,

Here's the recipe for the "Wolf Kibble"

Wolf Kibble or Chex® Muddy Buddies®
Another popular name for this favorite mix is "puppy food". Chow down; it's doggone good!

Prep Time:15 min
Start to Finish:15 min
Makes:18 servings (1/2 cup each)

9 cups Corn Chex®, Rice Chex®, Wheat Chex® or Chocolate Chex® cereal (or combination)
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup butter or margarine
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
Substitution
Peanut butter and chocolate are a favorite flavor combo, but peanut butter lovers can substitute peanut butter chips for the chocolate chips to intensify that flavor.

1. Into large bowl, measure cereal; set aside.
2. In 1-quart microwavable bowl, microwave chocolate chips, peanut butter and butter uncovered on High 1 minute; stir. Microwave about 30 seconds longer or until mixture can be stirred smooth. Stir in vanilla. Pour mixture over cereal, stirring until evenly coated. Pour into 2-gallon resealable food-storage plastic bag.
3. Add powdered sugar. Seal bag; shake until well coated. Spread on waxed paper to cool. Store in airtight container in refrigerator.

Sounds good...now I wonder if you can really only eat ONE serving. Tell me its possible! :rotfl:

Here's the recipe for the glasses. I can't vouch for how hard this is too do, DD did them and she said it wasn't hard. She also didn't break any glasses. I was impressed because she did not have a candy thermometer & used the water test method.

Vampire Blood Rimmed Glasses
The “blood rim” is made from the same kind of mixture as you’d use to make hard candy. It’s actually pretty easy, but you will need a candy thermometer (which you can find at most grocery stores).
Ingredients:
1 c. Sugar
1/2 c. Karo Syrup
1/2 c. Water
Red Food Coloring
Cinnamon (optional)
Directions:
Combine sugar, syrup and water. Cook without stirring to hard crack stage - which is 300 degrees F. Add food coloring. (Optional: Cinnamon may be added for flavor.)
Turn off heat. While the mixture is still hot, dunk the top of the cocktail glass into the mixture to create the red rim. If you need to do several glasses, keep the mixture hot so it lasts longer (instead of turning heat off, just reduce slightly). You can go anywhere from just along the very tip of the rim to part way down the glass - whichever you prefer. Flip the glass right side up to cool. The thick consistency of the mixture will cause “drips” as it hardens on the glass!

HARD CRACK STAGE

This stage is from 290 to 310 degrees.

Drop your mixture into cold water.

If it is at the hard crack stage, it will make threads that remain brittle when you remove them from the water.

The hard crack stage is for making lollipops and candy apple coating.

Shovan, great party! I love the blood drip glasses, they'd be great with a martini :thumbsup2

Brenda, great choices. I hope you like YSH, we've had some great meals there including our wedding.

Brenda - We'll be there for the meet, in fact I'll plan on Flying Fish for dinner that night then we can waddle over and drink with our DIS peeps. Can't think of a better way to celebrate our first night in the World than toasting your bday!:thumbsup2

We'll get you through... if of course I make it on that cruise...

Glad you got to have a nice lunch together! We'll look forward to the review, and the stink, well, we'll just have to imagine. :rotfl:

I'm not sure if it's even possible to imagine the stench ... :rotfl2:

It's amazing what a few strawberry margaritas (and a Tammy Doll with a Hickey...) will do to a little green furry butt... he melted right down to his fluff...

I'm very glad I got the soft smooshy one... something tells me I won't get thrown off as many flights with him...

but you know... people keep coming up to him on the streets :scared1: and run away... :sad2:

He'll be in counseling for years over that...

& did you have bread with your wine Bendy??

We all get the Plankton we deserve ... right? Jay and I wouldn't feel comfortable with a "nice" Plankton.

We had one glass of wine ... that was included with dinner ... no refills thank God, because that wine was poison! :lmao:

Thank you! We go back and forth on Yachtsman because there are so many good steak places here in Stinktown but this trip seems like the perfect time to try it since we'll be staying at the Beach Club.

And noted: Sangria!

I'll look forward to your reviews next year and you can dive into our two-week Disney cruise extravaganza which will include all kinds of new food reviews. :goodvibes

It sounds like your plans are starting to shape up. (I have redone the ones for our October trip two or three times in the past week or so.) I look forward to your ramblings as things start to firm up over the next few months before July Madness.

Hi Elin! Thanks for the feedback and feel free to share your ramblings too. I love to know what people are planning for their trips!

I'm sorry you aren't going to be joining all of us in October ... waaaaah!!! But I am pleased for you that mega character dining isn't in your future come December.

Afternoon tea in costume would be a hoot, don't you think? Jay and I will dress up as Mickey and Minnie Mouse but who knows what DylJen will do ... they get pretty creative. One year Dylan was a ninja and another year he was Mr. Roboto ... that was a riot! :lmao:

 Just a quick drive by as I'm, once again, late getting ready for work.

Hiya! :goodvibes Thanks for the input on Fresh - from the few responses I got on the restaurant boards it sounds like it might be pretty good. And we're sad about Spoodles too ... we were planning on breakfast and dinner there in October.

If the price is right and we aren't inspired by a dinner choice somewhere else and everyone else is headed to PFTS on the 17th we might end up going there after all. It just depends on what happens when the prices and schedules are released. We just thought since there's no more real nightlife at Disney that a 9:30 Saturday night meet would be kind of nice ... a nightcap and a little dessert with some food lovin' friends! :goodvibes

Why do you have do wait until Sept? We can start in July right?

Jamie has to wait until September to make her ADRs because she and her family are headed to the Mousetrap in December.

Brenda! Jason and I would love to join you for a B-Day Drink. We will be stumbling back from PFTS that night so who knows what shape we will be in but hey.. we will be good for a point and laugh if nothing else! :)

Brenda, great choices. I hope you like YSH, we've had some great meals there including our wedding.

I hope we like Yachtsman, too, Deb! I may start asking all of you for menu suggestions as we get closer to the trip.

Hooray! It's gonna be fun (I hope it doesn't rain). :cool1:

:scratchin:Dinner depends on if the ransom is paid...

My parents don't have any additional savings thanks to the recent stock market debacle and Jay's parents would refuse to bail out the Heathen and the Heretic as we are sometimes called. :rotfl2:

Brenda, unfortunately we don't arrive till October 19th so won't be able to join you for Birthday drinkies - I do hope we might get a chance to meet up before you and Jay leave though.

And, in case I forget nearer the time, Happy Birthday :)

We'll have to arrange a little something so that we can finally have a chance to meet in "real life." :goodvibes

We're not going till December this time. We've been the last three Octobers and thought we'd try a change of season this year.

I rejoined touringplans today and checked the crowd calendar--all 5's till our last two days and then it goes to 9!! That should be interesting.

First off... you've never been through Secaucus at low tide... :scared::scared::scared::scared: Nothing beats it... I used to almost pass out driving up the Jersey Turnpike from it... and they had all these nice expensive townhouses on the river because it was near NYC... :sad2::sad2::sad2:

Second... yes, I do believe we get the little green furry butt we deserve... I'm just glad their not like Tribbles or else I'd have no food left in the house...

3rd... they broke out the Sacramental Wine???

& lastly... on the EB transatlantic... we're planning on having an Edwardian Tea... I've just got to figure out how to get the corset and the huge hat back from Barcelona... :rotfl:

My parents don't have any additional savings thanks to the recent stock market debacle and Jay's parents would refuse to bail out the Heathen and the Heretic as we are sometimes called. :rotfl2:

Tell Grimmy to keep playing those lottery tickets... and Planky does take a payment plan... (10% off cause he used to live with you...)

Are you going the second week??? It's the Pop Warner week... and the weekends get a bit crowded because all the locals come to see the decorations, etc.

Don't forget to go and see the fireworks from the beach at the Poly for MVMCP because you get to see the perimeter ones (even if you do go to the party itself...) the fireworks from the poly on those special nights are literally wall to wall from the GF to the Contemporary...
