Belly Up to the Bar With Bendy and Her Friendies!!! Button Pics & New Thread Started!

Wow...your religious banquet didn't have an ATM? :confused3

We never carry an ATM card with us - to avoid needlessly accessing our accounts and to avoid fees ... both of which would have happened last night.

We also don't even have debt cards for the same reasons.

I know ... I work in financial services and don't use the things that are marketed for convenience but quite frankly they may be marketed for convenience but they are designed to be a goldmine of fee income for the banks.

And no ... we don't use online bill pay either. :lmao:

I'm just saying that spending nearly 20 years in banking and finance has opened my eyes to a few things. We keep access to our accounts verrrrry limited. Banks may sell themselves on service and whatnot but never forget that they are in the business of making money off of you.

We were at a dinner tonight honoring Jay's dad ... at one point he asked me where my camera was. I didn't have the heart to tell him that I only take pictures and write subsequent reviews of food / establishments that are supposed to be good. :lmao:

I told him that I didn't want to embarrass anyone since it was a banquet sponsored by a religious organization.

BUT ...

I have got to go on record here to say that it's grossly misleading and tacky to invite attendees to enjoy a cocktail hour prior to dinner and then expect them to pay for their drinks.

It's even worse when a certain couple who don't often carry cash find that without legal tender they can't get a drink because the establishment won't accept a credit card. :scared1:

I had no idea that cocktail hour could last that long ... it was interminable and excruciating. The single glass of house wine we were served with dinner was a bland, timid entry best suited for patients recovering from surgery.

 WOW! I think Jason and I would have snuck out back looking for a liquor store! You are in need of a hug:grouphug: and a drink!

Brenda, Sorry about that "party"! That would have really set me off!

Now tell me is online banking not safe?? Our's is free so there are no hidden fees. DH has our computer network set up with extra "firewalls".

I haven't had much to contribute lately. I think the party my DD hosted this weekend is Bendy & Frendies Worthy. Our group of Twilight readers got together for a Twilight DVD Party on Saturday.

DD did a great job with the theming. Everything was black, white & red like the book covers. Here's some food pics, I'll put people pics on FB later.

Aren't the glasses cool? DD dipped them in a warm candy (like candy apple stuff). I made the Sangria, I was so excited to find blood oranges at the grocery. I also fixed bloody mary's.
IMG_1443a.jpg

The reddest salad fixings I could find. Red lettuces, red cabbage, tomatoes, dried cranberries, sweet/spicy walnuts served with a raspberry cabernet vinaigrette.
IMG_1438a.jpg

DD's Cookies with raspberry filling.
IMG_1450.jpg

Didn't really fit the theme except for the color & who doesn't want chocolate covered strawberries!
IMG_1442a.jpg

DD also fixed Wolf Kibble which was chex mix made with peanut butter & chocolate.

It was a really fun Girl's evening! I enjoyed the movie but I think only fans of the books would like it.

shovan that all looks so cool! I bet they had a great time! Thanks for posting!

Shovan - that was a wonderfully themed party! Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Thanks Y'all! I forgot to mention that we also had pizza from our local best pizza joint, the only food Edward ever tastes in the books.

Elin, I LOVE your F&W ticker!

Shovan... could you please just come over to my house and cook??? I'm dead serious... :lmao:

Michelle, My daughter made the strawberries, cookies, wolf kibble & did the glasses. All I did was the salad, Sangria & Bloody Mary's. Soo I guess you want my DD to come cook for you, I'm sure you don't want me for salad! She is vacationing in NYC next month, want me to ask her to swing by your place? ;)

Here's the kibble. I have to get her recipe for this, it was like crunchy salty Reese's peanut butter cups.

Sure!!! Send her up... spring should be around by then... :lmao::lmao::lmao: Does she like cows?

Shovan, the glasses looked incredible. I haven't read Twilight, but it looked like a great spread! I've had that stuff you called Wolf Kibble--someone made it for dd's class in Kindergarten, I think. Pretty yummy.

Michelle, (tink rules), I think I'm confused from a few pages back. Do you have a Plankton mascot, too? Or is he visiting?

Brenda, I'm surprised you found a religiously sponsored event that had alcohol, period! The only time I've been to one was in college when our Spanish III class had a dinner at the Catholic student center. My, how the wine flowed from those boxes! :rotfl2: (and we made a mean paella, too!)

My DD would flip if I showed her your party pics. Her whole room is covered in Twilight stuff. I may have to taunt her just a bit. Very cool party grub! :thumbsup2

Ok... a little green furry butt clarification... Planky...Plankton... :teacher:

There are more than one... :scared::scared::scared::scared::scared:

(Actually I'm not sure how many there are...)

BOTH were Bendy's... I invited one of them to go on the Panama Canal Cruise with me last May... Bendy graciously said yes. She threw him in a nice first class container (box) and sent him UPS (united Planky Service) to me where he began his journey...

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1810009

(Please excuse his little green furry butt... but when I sent him back to Bendy, he went on strike as far as continuing and it is only recently that we have coaxed him back to his literary journey...)

He did indeed have a blast and was one of many official mascots of our cruise and our WB Pc Repo cruise thread...

He did WDW, DCL & DL... along with a few other places....

Last fall when Bendy went to go back to WDW, he pulled a hissy fit and refused to go anywhere except back here (I think it had alot to do with my mom's chocolate chip cookies...) so after hearing him complain for months on end... Bendy sent him packing once again, this time for good back to our humble abode where he is now sitting ON my desk staring at me with that great big eye of his...

&&&&&&&

He should be traveling again soon... some places I can't let on about cause honestly, I don't know where I'M going (it's for work...) but I hope to be able to take a planned trip down to the World next month to meet up with his fan club (aka fellow cruisers from our repo...) (it of course depends on a project I'm working on so I will let you know ahead of time if the Plankman is going to be traveling once again....)

On the other hand... Bendy has PLANKTON... her evil nemesis... still living at her house and is terrorizing the neighborhood as we speak...

I kid that we should hold a 50/50 to raise money for the Planky/Plankton bail fund...

So... Please (I really do beg of you cause I know I lost most of my/his readers...) come and visit the little green furry butt and join in his adventures...

I will post later today on his thread about what he did today... (he's very helpful around the house... :thumbsup2:thumbsup2)

Hope this sort of helps...

Shovan,

Please DO get that recipe for wolf kibble! It sounds like MY kind of chex mix!! Not that I'm a wolf or anything! :rotfl2:
Thanks, Diane

 WOW! I think Jason and I would have snuck out back looking for a liquor store! You are in need of a hug:grouphug: and a drink!

We made sure to have a good drinkaroo when we got home last night!

Brenda, Sorry about that "party"! That would have really set me off!

Well, when the invitation reads "join us for a cocktail hour before dinner ..." I just assume it's free unless I feel like tipping the bartender. I mean, we had a cocktail hour before our wedding reception ... and we paid for it in advance; we never would have dreamed that guests would be expected to pay for their drinks. :scared1:

I think online banking is as safe as it can be, which means that you have to have really good security on your home system that updates pretty consistently. I just don't like it ... for a lot of reasons. So until I can't write checks anymore I'm sticking with the old fashioned way. :lmao:

Michelle, (tink rules), I think I'm confused from a few pages back. Do you have a Plankton mascot, too? Or is he visiting?

Michelle graciously took one of our Planktons through the Panama Canal last year - on this trip his personality radically changed and he became Planky ... a soft-hearted mooch who couldn't take the Stinktown Stench. :rotfl: We packed him up and sent him off to live with her and her mom.

Plankton, the original Bad Mascot, still lives with us and is even now laughing maniacially over the fact that since he's made an appearance in our TRs there are now something like 7 other Planktons in the hands of various DISers.

Evil Plan Z is working perfectly! :scared1::rotfl2::lmao::scared1:

It was a Catholic awards dinner ... 'nuff said? :lmao:

Jay and I both took a vacation day today and went out for lunch at one of our favorite local microbreweries. We took pictures, too! So look for a brief review of Trailhead Brewing Company coming soon to a blog near you sometime this week (I hope).

The only complaint I have is that the place smelled like an open drain at times. And you guys thought we were joking about the whole Stinktown thing, didn't you? :lmao:

Glad you got to have a nice lunch together! We'll look forward to the review, and the stink, well, we'll just have to imagine. :rotfl:

It's amazing what a few strawberry margaritas (and a Tammy Doll with a Hickey...) will do to a little green furry butt... he melted right down to his fluff...

I'm very glad I got the soft smooshy one... something tells me I won't get thrown off as many flights with him...

but you know... people keep coming up to him on the streets :scared1::scared1::scared1: and run away... :sad2::sad2::sad2:

He'll be in counseling for years over that...

& did you have bread with your wine Bendy?? :rotfl2:
