Being charged for valet parking

Two years ago??? I was shocked at being charged for valet parking. I complained, called DVC on my cell and finally gave in and paid the seven dollars. I must have missed that change(loss of perc). I have paid the charge several times since.

Today I valeted at the GF twice, the first time I drove away and within ten or so secends, realized that I hadn't been charged. I tip well, usually a $5 in and another one out. But how could they know that? I figured that they somehow forgot or missed it. I came back an hour later, valet parked again, picked up my car a few hours later and didn't get charged again.

I wonder if they messed up or the GF just doesn't, or if there were so many weddings that they weren't charging anyone today.

Has there been a change? Did we get that super-cool perc back?

Last I heard valet parking was $6. We only pay at the non-DVC resorts. I guess you got lucky today at the GF.

I have never been charged at GF. Was charged once at AKL but not at contemporary. I think I figured out it depends if the valet did the right things at the DVC resort. I think they are just suppose to use your "room parking pass" for DVC. Sometimes, I would get the car and there would be the color parking pass of the day in the window, that is when I wasn't charged.

Could the difference here be if it is a DVC resort or not? I always thought the free valet parking was only at the DVC resorts.

Diane, you are correct. The valet parking is only free at the DVC resorts. If we aren't charged elsewhere it's a "mistake". As mentioned, having the parking pass in the window from valet parking at a DVC may confuse the valets. If you pay at one hotel, you get free valet that day at all the hotels.

Valet parking is still free at the DVC resorts. I always remind the valet when I drop the car off that I am a member. Even doing that, sometimes the valet just messes up and doesn't properly note that we are members. As such, several times I did see valet charges on my bill at check out. A quick call to the front desk always makes those charges disappear.

My guess is you got lucky at the GF.

Isn't valet only paid once a day? If you had used the valet at a DVC and got the tag they used, they wouldn't charge you the second time if you left the tag on the mirrior.

If you are a member and use the valet services at a DVC resort they don't usually give you the colored tag. You just get your receipt stub from the valet and they put the other half on your dashboard. We've only received the colored cards when we've parked at non-DVC resorts and paid the $6 charge.

Isn't the free parking at DVC resorts a permanent perk? I thought that it was listed on the deed, and can't be taken away.

At the VWL this past year whenever we drove away the valets gave us the "PAID" for the day valet window tag, so even if we went to a non-dvc resort we weren't charged.
