We are heading down Thursday for a week at the World. We homeschool our 6 year old and are currently on a science unit about plants. I was thinking of doing the Behind the Seeds tour as a fun way to wrap up that unit, but I wonder if she might be too young for it. Anyone done the tour recently? Is it interesting for kids?
Thanks!

I think it depends on the child. My son was 10 when we did it and he was bored the whole time.

However, my older son who was 13 at the time, loved it. He was fascinated by the “world record breaking” longest tomato plants. He also really enjoyed feeding the fish. He still talks about the tour and how really liked the experience.

I've done the tour twice, and I loved it! I don't have kids (well, except my DH who is often like a big kid! :rotfl2: ) but if she is into plants then I think she would enjoy it. They give a good amount of information without it being like a lecture and you get to see a lot of it in action.

It might be a bit long for a 6 year old to go through (there is nowhere to sit during the tour) and maybe a bit TOO in depth for your unit on plants. However, it is a good tour in and of itself and for its cheap price, definitely something every EPCOT fan should do to relive the educational portion of what EPCOT Center once was.

Our DD enjoyed it. I don’t remember how old she was at the time though it was older than 6. They let the kids release lady bugs. There were also a bunch of baby alligators at the time that she enjoyed seeing. I homeschooled our children also & think it’s a great idea. I always tried to incorporate learning of some kind on whatever trips we took. I liked to think of it as sneaky learning. They learn something but aren’t realizing it because they’re on vacation & having fun.

6 is probably pushing it but it will depend on the child. I have done this tour and highly recommend it but some 6 year olds might have trouble paying attention for the duration.

We went Christmas 2017. DS was 7 and DDs were 9. They all enjoyed it. That is also one of DS's favorite "rides". I thought it was a neat / fun tour.

My son was 7 when we did it and he loved it -- totally depends on the child. We were big watchers of Food Network, and our guide was shocked at how my son was the one on the tour identifying what some of the stranger fruits and veggies were. :D

He got to release ladybugs, and feed the fish, in addition to "showing off" on food identification -- really fun time, for relatively little money. Thumbs up from us. :thumbsup2

We also homeschooled (22 years - just graduated my youngest!!) and we went when our crew was 17, 15, 9, and 7. They all really enjoyed it!

The first time I went on the Living with the Land ride (I was an adult, so take it for what it's worth), I was so enthused that I went out and bought stuff to try growing a few veggies in hydroponics. It sucked by comparison, but it was a learning experience.

Can I suggest, before you leave home, plant a few seeds in a pot with enough water to last. Go through the Living with the Land ride at least. When you get home, compare the sprouts, if any, and talk about what you saw and how plants grow. If you're industrious, do one planted in soil and one in water.

I personally think the ride will be enough for a 6 year old to tie back into your growing at home, but the tour certainly would provide more detail if your child seems really interested in the subject.

Every trip my husband purchases a hydroponic plant seedling from the Land Pavillion. They sell them at the counter where you sign up for the tour. Well, he takes such good care of this plant and every year it dies! We have no idea how but we can’t get them to grow, let alone grow as large as the sample they have on the counter.

Yet, every trip my husband buys another one! It’s become his annual souvenir.

So, we ended up doing the tour. It was really interesting. While she wasn't engaged the entire time, she did have fun with the scavenger hunt. They let her feed the tilapia and taste a cucumber, which she really enjoyed. Beyond that, she had a good time looking at the various plants and aquariums, and spotting hidden mickeys. She did get disappointed that she wasn't allowed to play in the sand. She did learn some new plant facts, and got to see what real experimental greenhouses look like, so I feel it was worthwhile.

Overall, I think it was a good experience and I'm glad we did it.
