Beginning to seriously rethink WCC - thoughts?

Last time we went to WDW, we were scheduled to eat at WCC but cancelled at the last minute in favor of Akershus. I was disappointed because it sounds so fun. This time, I was adamant that we'd go to WCC. BUT, with all the great choices for restaurants, I'm beginning to rethink that. Especially when you consider the long trek from our resort hotel to WL.

What do y'all think? Is WCC - food or atmosphere (kids will be 15 and 6) - worth it for the long trek? Is there something better you'd recommend at, say, DTD (besides RR) or BW? The BW restaurants just don't look that appealing to me, but I guess I'm really wanting something so totally fun with good food.

Below are some of the places I thought we'd eat:

Breakfasts:
Crystal Palace
Akershus
Chef Mickeys
Cape May Cafe
Tusker House

Lunches:
Sci-Fi (must-do for us)
Beaches 'n Cream
Plaza at MK
Tutto Italia
Biergarten

Dinners:
CRT OR Chef Mickey's (if I can't get ADRs at CRT)
Ohana
Le Cellier
Boma
Yak 'n Yeti
Ragland Road
Les Chefs de France
Tepan Edo
California Grill
Whispering Canyon Cafe

We ate at WCC in Feb of this year. I thought the food was really good and the atmosphere was a lot of fun. But we were staying at the WL so we didn't have to make a special trip for it. So if you go one a day you are in MK, and just take the boat over, it's not too far of a trek. But if you have some other place you want to eat if the MK area, and then have to make a special trip to eat there, then imo, it's too far. But I don't like to spend time going bus to parks, park to resort....it's a waste of time to me.
You have quite a list there of places to eat, so if it was me, I would go with something that's more convenient.

Where are you staying? If it's super far and you have to make a special long trek I think you should wait. But if you could do it on a MK day that would work. The food is great and it can be really fun for little kids and teenagers, too.

I've tried WCC twice and not liked it either time. It's not inexpensive if you get the skillet plate, though the food is plentiful, and the odds of you getting a fun server (who really makes or deflates the meal) seems to be tougher than a few years ago. In neither of my visits was our server either fun nor actually good at what she did for a living. And the food isn't great--not horrible, just not great. If you are having doubts about traveling, then as the poster above suggests, it might be better to try another option. However, I would not suggest someone NOT try a restaurant based solely on the observations on the DIS--too many varying opinions. If the trip to get to WCC isn't too bad, then give it shot. If you don't, you'll continue to wonder "if I shoulda. . ."

We didn't care for WCC...just not our cup of tea, and honestly, I feel there's better places to eat at on property. IMHO, WCC is just not worth the trek (if you're staying at WL then that's a different story), but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there. Too many other great reataurants to choose from, other than WCC.

We were staying at WL and my kids were younger, and we had a great time. They rode horses on sticks, loved the ketchup gag, and loved the giant utensils. There's a soda gag, also. We can't wait to go there again. The food is great but I'm not sure I would make a super long trek for it especially since your kids are older.

We will not be returning here. The worst meal by far we have ever had. Service was so poor that I left after a couple of HOURS at the table with our little girls and took a taxi back to our hotel. We hadn't even been offered desert yet (we were on dlx dining) but our waitress was ignoring us the entire night. NO antics at all either. My DH had to stay behind to find our missing waitress and settle the check. We were never offered refills of anything, took over an hour to get any food at all (salad, bread, etc).....terrible. It's too bad because we really wanted to try it! :sad2:

My boys, who were 7 and 5 when we ate there, loved the place. DH thought the food was just OK, but the place was a lot of fun. The boys really liked it. I thought my food was better than OK but not excellent. I would give it a try, although you have lots of good restaurants on your list.

My personal opinion is that it is a restaurant I will eat at if I happen to be in that area. No way do I consider it a destination.

I've never had a terrible meal there but I've never had a "Wow that was really good food!" there either. I'm also personally kind of a dud when it comes to silliness, others seem to enjoy it much more. I just don't consider ketchup shenanigans to be high humor. It's cute for a couple of minutes and then I'm like ... okay that's enough of that.

We've tried WCC twice and have not been pleased. There are two situations where I could see returning. If I were with some big guys who wanted an "all you can eat" grease fest OR if there were a few rambuctious kids in my group and I was afraid of the noise they would make in a nicer restaurant. That was pretty much what we expereinced when we were there. We've had both the involved waiter and the clueless waiter--involved was better but couldn't compensate for the mediocre food. Our food was better the second time (ordered the fish rather than the skillet) but our waitress didn't speak to us the entire time--just shoved things at us --including the check while we were still eating. The noise level was off the charts. We also saw many people who obviously wanted a raucous meal (I can appreciate that) and when their waiter didn't provide it, they took it upon themselves to yell loudly and encouraged their kids to do the same.

As pp said, not our cup of tea.

We do not care for WCC, tried it twice and would no longer dine there even while staying at WL. Service was some of the worst we have ever experienced at Disney.

We loved it! the food (skillet)was good and we all had a good time! we're going back in a month,so I'll let y'all know if we feel the same!

Fine if you're on the Dining Plan, not so fine if you're paying OOP in my opinion. We went once, last year.

We got the skillet, food was just totally swimming in grease, even the mashed potatoes. Milk shakes are good, but VERY heavy. I always recommend getting them without whipped cream or you'll get so full from a milkshake you won't be able to eat.

Also our server never cleaned off the table. We had the empty salad plates and serving bowl, and our seconds on the skillet were brought in a smaller skillet and thrown on top of the first one. We had no room to maneuver.

We are considering it for breakfast because we are staying at the Villas at Wilderness Lodge, but we may decide to go to Kona Cafe instead.

I know others have loved it. We love and recommend Trail's End if you're looking for barbecue style food.

We didn't enjoy it when we ate there our first night while staying at WL. We MAY give it another try if/when we stay there again, but we definitely would NOT go out of our way for it. Too much time and trouble for blah!

We ate there on Thursday night and were sorely disappointed. It has been our only disappointing meal on this trip, and the only place that I firmly do not want to try again.

My mood was probably set by the fact that it took forever and a day to get there and then back to the MK (although I think there were some larger issues with the boats that day, based on what the very friendly boat driver said on our ride over), but overall we found the food to be barely passable (entrees) to inedible (both the apple pie and the pecan pie were just terrible), our server rather odd (to give her credit, she may have been in character, but it just didn't work for us), and the antics, while cute, were not our cup of tea.

On the flip side, the place was packed with lots of people appearing to be having a ton of fun, so while this isn't the place for us, it sure seemed to be a great place for many people, so take my comments with a small grain of salt.
