How bad are the bees/wasps and fire ants in November? My 6-year-old DD is extremely allergic. We could also go in May next year, but I figure the spring would be a lot worse. Last time we were at WDW, we did not have a child deathly allergic to these insects, so I didn't pay much attention. She really wants to go to Disney, as do her siblings, but I don't want to risk her life if they are everywhere. I figured we might be able to avoid fire ants if we stayed toward the middle of the path, and you can see / walk around areas with bees. Of course, she'll have her epi pens, and we'll use bug spray. Has anyone paid attention to them? How is Universal with insects? Thanks for your help!

In all my yrs of going; we've never had anyone stung by a bee/wasp nor bitten by fire ants. I'd definitely say November is better than May for bugs, but Disney does a good job at mitigating bug issues. I wouldn't let her sit/stand in the grass or sand, but otherwise I think you all should be pretty good. The only place I remember really seeing bees bus one yr at the food place at Blizzard Beach.

Never seen an issue with any of those insects during any part of the year at WDW.

Just my experience...last summer sitting outside liberty tree waiting for our table I felt something land on the back of my neck...I wiped it off and it was a bee that stung me while wiping it off....so they are around but that's the only issue I've had in the 15+ trips. I'd also say make sure to not go anywhere near the soda refill areas around the pools...9000 bees flying around them.

I was at WDW late last October/into November, and was sitting in the Germany seating area enjoying a snack. I felt something on the back of my knee and went to brush it off, and realized I had just been stung by a bee/wasp. I am moderately allergic and was dismayed, because I've been going to WDW since it opened without incident.

It's the bees that you don't see that scare me. It's so hard to take her places with bees/fire ants because she almost died, but we can't keep her from living her life because of it. I'm glad to hear it isn't a huge problem. We will have to stay away from soda refill areas, avoid the water park, and look under the chairs (good to know because I didn't think of that.) But I've only ever been stung once in my entire life.

Just an fyi I was also sitting next to a flower planter. I haven't seen a single bee away from flowers and soda machines.

Fire ants have really large nests. Pest control at Disney wouldn't miss those. I've never seen one at Disney.
Generally, I would agree, but I often see smaller, newly forming nests where those buggers are really aggressive and active. But, I don't recall seeing any mounds on WDW property (including FW).
