SOG is running a special called OEF (Operation Enduring Freedom). They are giving 20% off room rates and meal plans.

We had a junior suite for 7 nights for $1,750...add the package, and we now have the suite for 7 nights, plus breakfast EVERY DAY and dinner EVERY DAY...for five people......for $1,995.

So for $245 more for the entire stay, that's $35 a day...we get two meals for five people. WOW!!!!!!

(The rate was $1,261 for a regular room, five people, with meals!)

So glad to hear Disney is doing something nice for our soldiers. :thumbsup2
A big thank you from me and my family to whoever is serving in our military.:)

:cool1: :cool1: You deserve it !! No you deserve to go for free. I wish I could make that happen for your family for your sacrifices. Go enjoy what America is all about, being with your family in the most magical place on earth.

Glad to hear you will be getting a nice discount on your family vacation, it is well deserved for what your family does for our nations freedom.:)

Ditto :thumbsup2

I'm so glad for you! I know it can't take the place of a family member being gone for months, but it can certainly make the time after the homecoming more fun!!!

So glad to hear that Disney is helping our soldiers and their families spend some magical quality time together!

Have a wonderful trip and THANK YOU for my safety and freedoms :hippie:

SoG is not Disney owned. However, I am very happy for those who can get the discount. Very nice and way more than well deserved! :thumbsup2

You are absolutely right. To give credit where credit is due, Disney is not giving this discount. Shades of Green is operated by the armed forces MWR (Morale, Welfare, and Recreation) department--so the discounts have nothing to do with Disney.

As far as I know, Disney does not offer any military discounts. They should be ashamed--Anheuser Busch theme parks offer FREE admission to military families.

Still, it is a great deal, and I posted it so that maybe other military families can take advantage of it!!

SOG is owned and operated by the US Armed Forces. They do however rent the property from Disney. The Hale Koa in Waikiki also runs the same type of promotion. It also is a military owned hotel.

Well regardless of who gave the great rates, have a wonderful time and make some "magical memories" for you and your family!!!! ENJOY:thumbsup2

I'm glad to hear of the great rates. My son is in the Navy, currently on the USS Nimitz ( along with the John C. Stennis, both stationed to do airstrikes in Iraq) and we're hoping he'll be home in September although there is a possibility of another extension. I hope he can take advantage of the SOG when he returns. Long 14-16 hour workdays have him pretty worn out right now and a trip to WDW would be a real treat. I hope all our military families enjoy the time they get to have together - and thanks to all military guests who support and defend our country.--Kathy

Actually, when the property was first converted for military use, it was leased by the Army from Disney (I think the first lease was for 100 years!). It turned out to be so successful that the Army purchased the hotel from Disney and it is now fully owned by Uncle Sam.

Also, none of your tax dollars go to support this. It has, from the beginning, made enought money to be self-supporting.:thumbsup2

It is my understanding that the prices to stay at SOG depends on your PAY GRADE in the military. The more you get paid the more you pay. It's nice of them to run that 20% discount on top of that.

Heck, I wouldn't mind if my tax dollars DID support this resort. I can think of many things my tax dollars go to that I don't support...but giving military families a chance to enjoy family and friends at Disney would be well worth it.---Kathy

Have a magical time!!! Thank you so much for all you have done for us!!!! God bless America!!!

My sister and brother-in-law are both active military (10 years w/airforce.)
I mentioned this deal to her because they were thinking about joining us in December for Chritmas (He was away last Chritmas in Iraq.)
When she looked into she said it required a 12 month tour in Iraq and Richard was only there for 4 months.
Do you think it is a 12 month tour or that your tour had to have been during the last 12 months? He went Sept. 1 to Jan. 1 of last year.
Thanks for any info..

It probably does mean a 12 month tour, but she should check with SOG. Even without the additional 20% discount their prices are pretty cheap.

Bronte...yes, the tour must be for 12 consecutive months, AND you must travel to Disney within one year of returning.

But as I said in the original post, the prices are great even without the 20%, and it's still the best deal at Disney!
