Day 3-Saturday 13th August 2011 Downtown Disney
After a great nights sleep we all woke up about the same time. Looking at the clock I spotted it was 9.40am oooops. Although we didnt have any plans this morning we generally dont like to waste time on holiday by spending it all in bed.
We opened the curtains to our fab view.
Today we were going to Downtown Disney, So we got ready. Unfortunately as I was getting ready, Luke called as he'd finished in the shower I jumped off the super soft bed really quickly and felt something pull in my back. Typical-just when things were going right something bad had to happen. Over the holiday I survived once I got going in the mornings.
We decided to pop to the Contempo Cafe to get a quick bite to eat before we went out.
I decided to try a cheese danish-it was nice but weird. Matt and Luke stuck with cookies, we also got another refillable mug, Id already brought one on our first night.
For anyone that doesnt know you buy a refillable mug and can use it for the duration of your stay at your hotel. It costs $12.99 plus tax, refills are free and lots to choose eg coke, sprite, powerade, fanta, coffee, tea, hot choc, iced tead etc. The drinks are about $3-4 so by the time youve had 3/4 drinks youve used your moneys worth already. very handy for those from the UK who generally stay 2 weeks.
Before we caught a bus to Downtown, we booked a cab for the journey to Universal tomorrow. When we got to Downtown we explored pretty much all the shops.
I always think of MandyMouse when I visit the Christmas shop.
Luke bought some fudge at Goofys, I always like looking at all the sweets but its Matt and Luke who have sweet teeth
I had planned to eat at WPE for a late breakfast/early lunch however due to our late start and an early ADR for dinner we skipped it. Shame as I was looking forward to it but I knew we each wouldnt have managed a meal.
However as we were very thirsty and wanted a quick snack to survive until dinner we went here
We just got one meal to share between the three of us, it was just right to keep us going. The Hawaiian BBQ was very nice, although I took the pineapple out of my half. The drinks fountain here was very handy, I always used to use the McDonalds one to top up my bottle with ice and water. So was very glad when I saw they had one here too.
Matt and Luke spent ages in the toy shop and brought a few items. They also spent ages in the Lego shop, I knew they would though so waited outside for them taking a few pictures.
We had to look in the dine in theatre, when I told Matt about it he wanted to eat here. I knew we didnt have time for it this time but im sure its something we will do in the future. When we had nearly finished looking at all the shops, we thought we'd better head back for our ADR. Usually when we come to Downtown we eat at Fultons crabhouse- as I love seafood especially prawns/shrimps. However after a couple of very expensive and average meals there (plus Id made another shrimp choice this trip) we let Luke choose todays restaurant for our 5pm ADR.
When we checked in they asked if we were on the dining plan. I said I thought you didnt take it? So they said "we dont". Im not really sure why they asked?
Anyway we joined the very short queue inside and were seated within a few minutes, well it would have been sooner but they kept going to different tables and then werent sure where to seat us. It only took a few minutes but it was amusing and finally we were seated
I thought the restaurant was very cool, lots of different rooms.
For a starter we shared-Melalosaurus Mozzarella - Seared Mozzarella with creamy marinara and mozzarella fingers.
Luke=Childrens Pizza
Nicky=Boneyard Buffet - Fire-roasted Rotisserie Chicken and Mega Mes-O-Bones served with waffle fries and coleslaw with an added portion of Tar Pit Fried Shrimp
Matt=Boneyard Buffet - Fire-roasted Rotisserie Chicken and Mega Mes-O-Bones served with waffle fries and cinnamon apples with an added portion of Tar Pit Fried Shrimp
Matt also got a cotton-tini, another reminder of MandyMouse.
you get to keep the cocktail shaker.
Luke hardly ate the pizza, he did really enjoy it.
The boneyard buffets were very yummy,it all tasted hot and fresh. The ribs were so soft and tender, the meat just fell off the bone. The cotton-tini was great fun to watch it being poured (the glass is filled with cotton candy and then the drink is poured over the top) Matt like the taste too.
This was Matts favourite meal on our holiday, he's jealous Luke chose it.
Although there was loads of food left over, we decided the get some Meteor Bites - Warm chocolate and vanilla donut holes with powdered sugar. Served with caramel and chocolate sauces.
We all tried these, they were yummy but seeing as we were full we got most of these and the rest of our food boxed-just in case we were hungry later.
As we left we looked around the restaurant a little more and visited the build a dino shop. We then finished looking around the rest of the shops and then made our way to the Cirque De soleil shop, although we saw the show on our last trip we hadnt brought anything except a programme. So Matt and Luke brought a T-shirt each and we got a fridge magnet.
We then took the bus back to the hotel and relaxed before watching Wishes on the balcony. It was a great view and fab to watch in our PJ's-Im sure we would do it again many times on our holiday.
