Day 8 -Thursday 18th August 2011
Today we were off to Animal Kingdom, we got up fairly early and headed for the bus stop around 8am.
There were already a couple of scooters waiting, so we had to wait for the next bus. The next bus came, instead of the ramp for wheelchairs it had a lift. It kept getting stuck and took the driver about 10 minutes to get it to work but finally we were on our way.
When we got to The Poly there was another wheelchair waiting but the driver wouldnt take them, probably because of the problems he had.-they moaned as theyd had to miss 2 buses. This also made us think more about the chance of ever staying at The Poly. The bus stops at the CR first so we dont usually have any problems getting on, with the Poly we may have to wait for a few buses.

We eventually got to Animal Kingdom and headed straight for Tusker house, this was Matts choice. I keep wanting to try yak & Yeti at AK but know we dont spend long at Ak, so there was no point having a breakfast & dinner ADR-im sure we'll try it one day.
It took them a while to find our ADR but we were given a pager and waited. A while later it went off, when we went to the check in desk they had the wrong ticket. We were given another pager and had to wait again.
Eventually it went off again and we were taken to get our picture with Donald-we later bought these as they were good.
We enjoyed the breakfast- Luke loved the ham and kept getting lots of that.

We enjoyed meeting the characters, I thought Donald was fab today, we were sitting by the doors, near to where he was taking pictures outside. Everytime he was waiting he'd pop in and look for daisy and blow her kisses- It was so sweet.

After breakfast we headed for Kilamanjaro Safaris-we all enjoy this.

Even though we have a GAC, I generally try to get Fastpasses when I can. I had gotten some for KS, so when we got off, I went to the queue and gave them to a family of 3. They were grateful as the wait was about 45mins and the fastpasses were available straight away. Its always great to spread some pixie dust when you can.
Next we did Kali River Rapids, as always I got soaked! We then did Expedition Everest

It was now getting very late, so we decided to get some lunch and drink. It was so hot-it always seems a lot hotter at AK. We usually eat at Y&Y counter service but it was far away, so we decided to go to the first place we came to, which was.....Restaurantosaurus.
We got 3 counter meals, oops no pictures as it took us ages to get a table. Lots of people had finished their food but were hogging the tables chatting.
I think we got
chicken nuggets-fries-coke-cheesecake.
cheeseburger-fries-sprite-chocolate mousse
shrimp po boy-fries-coke-chocolate mousse.
Again it was great to have a drinks fountain to refill the drinks, however the restaurant was freezing. I dont think it helped that we were all still wet.
We left a lot of the food as we just werent really hungry, we ordered 3 mainy due to the drinks and because we had loads of counter credits to use up.
We managed to do the Dinosaur ride before going to watch Finding Nemo the musical.

As we left we managed to catch most of the parade.
We then did its tough to be a bug, it was great to get closer to the tree and see more detail as we'd never actually done this before.

We headed for the exit stopping to do some shopping on the way and then caught the bus back to our hotel

Tonight we had an ADR at WCC, we planned to take the boat to the Wilderness Lodge.
Only a few days before we left the UK someone on the Dis mentioned that the boats from the hotels didnt take wheelchairs. It was the first time I'd read that and no one else commented on it, so the day before we were due to take the boat we checked with the reception at our hotel. They checked and said they did take wheelchairs, I still wasnt sure. I made sure we had lots of time just in case we had to walk to MK to catch a boat from there.
It began to look very stormy.........
SAM_2560.jpg

As we were waiting a boat Captain arrived and waited near us, he asked where we were going. When a boat arrived it was going to the WL campground, So they said the WL boat would come along soon and take us. However the Captain who was waiting with us, had a chat with them, and they said they were going to do a detour for us. yipee more luck for us!
So im not really sure if the boats from the hotel to WL are wheelchair accessible as we never went on it. I know the other boats are a lot smaller-will have to check it out next time.
SAM_2584.jpg

As we arrived on the dock, it started to rain a bit. We got near the pool then suddenly it rained very heavily with lots of thunder and lightening. So we made the dash for the building, thankfully we made it inside before we got soaked.
The inside of WL was lovely, especially the lobby.

We checked in for our ADR at Whispering Canyon Cafe, after a short wait our pager went off and we were seated quickly. Now I warned Matt & Luke before we made the ADR what it was like. I knew theyd love lt! I didnt say anything again as I didnt want to spoil the experience for them. So if you dont want to know anything about it dont read on.........
Matt & Luke ran into a server on the way to our table- I dont know his name but remember many on Dis call him Geppetto. After seeing him I knew why, he seemed fun. Its a shame he wasnt our server but he did serve the table next to us so we saw some of his antics-He was fab.
Over server was ok but really didnt do anything much.
So how did our sever greet us? By chucking the straws and napkins at us- Luke was amused.
We all got Milkshakes Luke & Matt got chocolate, I got Strawberry. They were very yummy but very thick-We all got sodas too. I thought they did other flavour of milkshakes but only Strawberry,Chocolate and vanilla were on the menu.
SAM_2613.jpg

We all decided to go for the Canyon Skillet
All You Care To Enjoy $28.99 per person
Smoked Pork Ribs, Pulled Pork, Oven-roasted Chicken, Beef Brisket, Mashed Potatoes, Cowboy Beans, and Corn on the Cob Mixed Greens Salad with Apple Vinaigrette, Coleslaw, and Fresh-baked Cornbread

Our server brought out the cornbread and salad.

SAM_2615.jpg

I noticed the table next to us had a blue milkshake so I asked the server what other flavours they did. They had cotton candy, caramel and orange. So if you want a milkshake remember to ask what flavours they have. you also get free refills on them, and can change the flavour when you refill. We got a couple of cotton candy ones and Matt ordered an alcoholic drink- Northwest sunset.
Our server brought our skillet followed by our drinks

SAM_2619.jpg

When the skillet arrived, we knew there would be one thing we had to ask for-Ketchup!
you have to stand up and shout-we need ketchup! Anyone who has ketchup has to bring it to your table. We eventually ended up with about 15 bottles but soon had to pass it on-it was so much fun!
The skillet was ok, I didnt expect everything to be so spicy. The ribs were hot and fresh but they were very tough. I think if they had better quality ribs then they would have been delicious. I tried the beans and potatoes and they were nicely spiced.
The rest of the meats were ok but I mainly ate Corn on the cob, I even asked for extra corn.
As we were eating a kid came up and asked Luke if he'd dropped his fork.
SAM_2622.jpg

Im sure I would have spotted if he did, however we went around asking if anyone had droped it. It took a few tables of asking until someone admitted it theyd dropped it.
Although we were full we ordered desserts.
M-Chocolate Caramel Bread Pudding - with Fig and Cherry Sauce. Matt didnt enjoy this.
SAM_2631.jpg

N-S'mores Cheesecake - New York-style Cheesecake on a Graham Cracker Crust topped with Chocolate Ganache and Marshmallows. This was lovely, very light.
SAM_2629.jpg

l-A Sweet Ending to Your Celebration . . . Kahlúa-flavored Chocolate Cake - with Chocolate Mousse Filling and Fudge Icing. Very nice, the mousse on top was light.
SAM_2630.jpg

We got Matts & Lukes desserts boxed as we were too full to eat them, they tried my cheesecake and thought it was ok.
The room started getting noisy and all the men had to get up for a bit of a song and dance-it was so funny!
I think that WCC was my fav experience meal just the shame the meat in the skillet wasnt a better quality.

We then caught the bus to MK, the bus system here seemed very unorganised. Lots of people were moaning about the buses, saying they had waited for ages and several buses had gone without them. Eventually the MK bus arrived and we managed to get on, it took a while as again there were 2 scooters and us. Its amusing watching some of the people driving the scooters-some of them drive really badly. When we got to Mk it was raining slightly so we decided to walk from the bus to the monorail-although im sure it would have been quicker to walk to the hotel.
We watched Wishes in the room but poor Luke kept falling asleep during it.

Lovely day great pics, we liked the wcc experience but the food was just ok..!, we are going back next trip

great day thanks for sharing enjoying your great report

Lovely day at AK and it looks like you all had a great time at WCC :)

What a nice gesture by the Captain to do the detour :thumbsup2
I didn't rate the skillet much either. I think the dining here takes a backseat in favour of the entertainment :goodvibes

Another lovely day - you must try Yak and Yeti one trip, it's my favourite restaurant at WDW.

We loved our meal at WCC but that was a few years ago and I've noticed lots of people don't rate the food there these days so it does sound like it's gone downhill. Such a fun experience though! :thumbsup2

What a performance with the buses, such a shame as disney can do better

thanks everyone :goodvibes

yes id love to try it but the others wanted tusker house. Def going to put that on the list next time for an early dinner. :thumbsup2
The food was ok just the ribs I was disappointed with-they were very tough and chewy. The experience made the meal-however you never know what type of server youll get.

To be fair we didnt have a problem-it was just some others. They were trying to get to a Disney hotel but due to the weather the boats had stopped and theyd waited for about 6 buses but none of them went to where they wanted to go. Although they seemed to know the system well, they werent too sure what bus to take. I suggested to them just to get a bus to MK and catch a bus from there. :thumbsup2

Not much happened when we went to WCC and like you said the food wasn't great so I don't think i'd return.

Another busy day :thumbsup2 We loved WCC when we visited, me and my Dad had been to Mousemeets in the UK before we travelled, so we added this as a surprise for the others! It was great to see their faces as things happened, lol!
