I'm hearing about bedbugs at the moment and am a bit worried.
How prevalent are they? Has anybody had any problems with them at hotels?
We will be away for three weeks and am wondering what precautions I may be able to use to stop any problems that we may have.
Am I overreacting?

No bedbugs that we have encountered. We have stayed at FFI, Stovalls, portofino,CCI, and HoJo. All since April this year, of course we have not stayed in every room lol and "knocking on wood" we never encounter any either! :scared1: where are you hearing about this?

There are some articles floating around, here is one

and I also found this :scared1:

Just wanting to know if I need to take precautions....:scared1:
ewww... Seems most of those are in SF which has been on the news recent years for bedbugs, which I never stay in SF drive right on thru weekly and have no desire to stay lol.
As for Anaheim most of those motels are not Disney nor good neighbor and the one PPH was one report from 08 I wouldn't take to seriously. IMO if there was a serious problem these boards would be ablaze with chatter :)
unless you have ressies for somewhere like little boy blue I wouldn't worry :)
enjoy your trip :)

Well you can see how many trips we have done just this year by looking at my siggie and we did 14 last year and no bed bugs.....I think you will be fine.

2 years ago we stayed at Desert Inn and Suites and my son got bitten by bed bugs. There was even blood on the sheets. It was gross. But I have since stayed there many different times and we nver had any more issues. I called and complained and they claim they take it very seriously. All I can say is, it was one time and so far it has not happened again. It can happen in the best of hotels.

Any time we go to hotel DH lookes behind the head board to check for bed bugs. He also turns down the bed to insure they are not there. That being said we have never experienced bed bugs at DL

It can happen in 5 star hotels. And it is a reemerging problem. They are not harmful but are annoying and uncomfortable and nearly impossible to get rid of if they tag along home with you and infest your house. I have started taking precautions to prevent that no matter where I stay, since it is rather simple to do. I usually pack our clothes in space bags. I simply leave the clothes in the space bags on arrival home, leave the suitcases in the garage until I am ready to unpack, and wash all our clothes/towels/any pillows/stuffed animals my children may have brought along in HOT water before they enter the bedrooms again.

The trick is just not to bring your suitcases and all your clothes from the hotel into your bedroom and onto your bed at home.

I have never had a problem with this at all. Most recently, we've stayed at Embassy Suites South, Holiday Inn Express, and a Marriot's suite place that I forget the name of. I sure hope it doesn't become a big problem.

I do this too, I also strip the sheets off the bed and look around the corners of the mattresses because there apparantly is often signs of them or their poops between the binding and the mattress if the room has them.

I've never yet encountered them, but it's one thing I do take notice on on Trip Advisor, if a hotel has multiple mentions of them I will not stay there.

gross!

for those of us who have no idea what to look for, can anyone here who may know, explain?

ugh, i'm getting the heebeejeebees just thinking about it!

bedbugs are big enough to actually SEE? like if we turned down the beds upon check-in, we'd be able to see anything icky if it were there? things (gulp) crawling?!! if we hadn't seen them and got into bed, would we (shudder) feel them?

i already pack all of our clothes in freezer bags when we go, although i do bring in all the duffles upon our return and keep them in the laundry room until all the vacation laundry is done.

Thanks for the links. I have never thought to look before. The first one has some good pictures you know what to look for.
