After reading some things about bed bugs at Disney, I am a little nervous about choosing a resort. Any resorts you've never had issues at or ones you would avoid? :confused3

:) Never had issues...I am more afraid of the brain eating amebas in the surrounding water. If you don't believe me search the DIS.

really you run the risk of bed bugs at any resort anytime and not just Disney anywhere, just check your mattresses upon arrival and you should be fine, we bring Sol U Mel and spray the rooms/mattresses upon arrival anytime we travel

Very good points. If you do run into them, ask them to move them as far away as possible from the room because Bed Bugs may be in adjoinging rooms or even right above them or below also. If you see them, do speak up for yourself because Disney wants them less than you do. They also have professional exterminators as part of their maintenance crews. (to my understanding) to handle these issues.

Also, I'd take "online reports" of bedbugs with a huge grain of salt; it's impossible to verify these claims. As mentioned above, bedbugs can be unwelcome visitors in the swankiest of places down to the fleabag motels. Just be vigilant, follow the steps to check your own room and if you find no creepy-crawlies, go out and enjoy yourself on your vacation. :thumbsup2

Well, I guess it was time for another of these threads - it has been a while!

Please do a search using the words bed bugs - I am 100% certain you will find more information than you ever needed to know on this topic.

I am sincerely not trying to be rude, but this is such an overblown topic and you are never going to be able to have someone tell you to stay at one specific resort or avoid one specific resort and you will be guaranteed to not have an issue.

Just educate yourself on what to look for and have a wonderful vacation - the odds are truly on your side that you will have NO issue no matter where you choose to stay - really.

Leave it at that.:thumbsup2
There is absolutely nothing you can do to assure getting a bedbeg free resort room ANYWHERE.

Reserve where you want and do your bedbug check before you open any suitcases/bags.

REMEMBER, a gazillion of us have been to WDW and have NEVER had an issue;);)

"IF" I was going to worry about something at WDW,it would be lightning, not Bed Bugs.:)

There are so many factors when choosing a resort at DW like; closeness to your favorite parks, amenities, ambience, restaurants, size of rooms, availability, etc.;bedbugs shouldn't be factored in because its like Russian Roulette. If you are that scared of them, I would stay home. You take a risk where ever you go and you will most likely find something to not like in any of these resorts if you go into the situation with the idea that something could be wrong. It's what I like the most about Disney, they try their hardest to, generally speaking, to provide fantastic customer service and provide their guests with experiences that make us go back again and again.

Why would you use that stuff on the mattress and rooms? About the only thing that will currently kill bed bugs is lots of heat or lots of cold. Let Disney spray and clean the rooms. You might be making a nightmare for a future guest in that room.

Disney has a team to take care of bed bug problems. They don't spread all over the resort unless people bring them in with their luggage.

I used to travel for work all the time and I swear by this to check for them and yes it sounds silly .
Take a travel size lint roller ( the kind that has the sticky tape) I lift the sheets and run the roller around the edge of the mattress where the rolled seams are. Look at the roller you will see the tiny little bugs on it . I do this everywhere I go to stay the night . I did see them at a very nice hotel in Vegas and just asked to move rooms.
Believe it or not it was my Doctor that is also a Disney freak that told me this years ago

I've read (hear on the Dis probably) that you can also use the sticky side of a feminine hygiene product... gets the attention of managers when you wave those around! :rotfl:

Ok I laughed outloud so hard it scared the dog ! WHAT are you saying ???? Please say NO . Where can I find these tidbits of info ???:rotfl2:

Yes, I would use the overnight jumbo ones, it picks up more!!:lmao: I think you would definitely find those little buggers if they are hiding.:rotfl:

I spend a little over 200 nights a year in hotels, and if I'm lucky, 25 of those are at WDW (10 day Thanksgiving trip, 10 day B-Day trip, and 5 day "Da Boyz" trip). In the seven years I've been doing this, I have yet to encounter the little buggers.

The other posters are correct; if it went undetected and WDW had to shut down an entire building the lost revenue would be significant. Check the room before you go in, let them know if there's a problem, and they will treat you right and address it. YMMV, but I've read they will heat treat your clothes, provide you with some clothes from the gift shop while that's under way, and sometimes offer some other form of recovery.

Yes, the sticky side of a clean feminine hygiene napkin provides good documentation. These issues need to be PHYSICALLY walked to the front desk. If you dial '0' you get a call center. Good people who work hard and really want you to have a magical day, but a call center none-the-less.

we have never had issues but we do check the beds every time to be sure...but bed bugs can and are picked up thru air travel as suitcases are all together even in over head bins and worse there in fact as it warmer...and a hotel can get rid of bed bugs and the very next person brings a new bunch right back in. so we just check all around the mattress and around the head boards and hope for the best. can also pick up on head rest on planes as well. like some in New York had got them from movie theater seats. so they just out there. and so many against spraying anything that would kill them we just all have to suffer them being around .

As I am hearing,is that there has been no reports of bedbugs this summer. Has anyone had a problem this year?

I would never bring anything into a room and spray it on furniture that I don't own, and won't be taking with me. Other guests could have an allergic reaction to it, or it could not mix well with the cleaners Disney uses.

Not to mention, I'm not sure what good bring something that is touted as a spot remover and room deodorizer does with regards to killing bed bugs. Though I see farther down it is listed as killing tics, it says nothing about bed bugs. I'm thinking if it worked for ed bugs, then it would be already used for that by most hotels.

Never had an experience with bed bugs during our stay. I am a bed bug checker - very seriously so.... Before I take luggage into the room, I do a thorough search under the mattress - in the seams - behind the walls and etc... While never finding bed bugs, on our last stay at CSR I found WAAAYYY more than I expected in, under and around the bed when performing this check... it was a haven for many other things....
