Bed bugs

Guess where else they're showing up?
Tanning salons.
Guess what people often do before going on vacation?
Yep... they hit the tanning salons in preparation.

Don't forget movie theaters -- they're showing up there, too.

In NY, there's even a pest control company running commercials with vampires... that turn out to be bed bugs.

I check the mattresses too now... but there's only so much you can do. They could live in the baseboards, outlets, drawers, etc.

Odds are good (not 100%) that if they're in the furniture (dresser drawers, outlets, etc.) that there will be visible evidence on the mattress. Bed Bugs live on blood meal, so they need to find you to survive.

You can certainly check dresser drawers before using them, look for a tick like bug. Don't put your luggage on the bed, keep them in the closet, on a rack, etc.

Need to bring back DDT. :hmghost:

Thanks for posting the question I've been wanting to post for awhile. But I am too afraid of the answer...

Although I'm curious about all DVC resort. If anyone has had any issues, and what do you do now to minimize the possibility of meeting these yucky creatures... :(

There is a blog about DVC, where the owner does recount a problem with bedbugs in her villa at OKW. If you'd like the blog address, just PM me.

What's worse is they are now infesting stores. Abercrombie and Victoria Secret in NYC have had to be closed due to bed bugs so they can fumigate.

All of that publicity has to be hurting NYC. I know that we recently went there for a book signing that ended at 1:30 am, and opted to make the 2 1/2 hour ride home rather than stay overnight. I actually checked out bedbugregistry.com and found some 5 star, $800/night hotels on the list.

So smother yourself in yogurt before bed each night in hotels. Great for the skin, a healthy bedtime snack and a variety of flavours to choose from. I am sure Disney will find a way to market the Mickey Yogurt bedbug Rub.:rotfl:

:rotfl2: But ewwww, could you imagine the smell by morning?

This is still creeping me out.
Oh Denial, where can I find you again?:rotfl:
:sad2: I was thinking the same thing!

ICK! GROSS! AWFUL!

The thought makes me nauseous! I carefully check everything! Truthfully, I've been contemplating buying our own bedding to store in our owners lockers!

I have taken a look at the bed bug registry site and I definitely agree to take it with a grain of sand. I really wonder about people who claim to have only a few bites. If your sleeping in the bed for a whole week I'd think you'd have more. I could be wrong! DD and I got bite by the infamous Florida no-see-ums in Oct 06 and it was not pleasant. The bites hurt and got really inflamed! I sometimes wonder if that's what people are getting bite by and don't realize it!

Not really sure if it was bed bugs or something else but I stayed in a 2 bedroom at OKW in May and my 2 friends in the second bedroom had bites all over their legs, very itchy and I had none. We did everything together except I slept in the master. The bites (whatever they were) did not disappear on my 1 GF for over 2 months after the vacation????

While I think it would be totally gross to be bitten, I would absolutely hate even more to bring them home and have my house infested!!! :scared1:

We stayed at a few hotels this summer on the East Coast (all Hampton Inns) - no problems whatsoever. But I definitely am now in the habit of checking the mattresses before we climb into bed. I think we need to start a Bed Bug Tip Thread! :thumbsup2

They have become immune to sprays, they have made such a comeback they are now going off to college.

This cracked me up...so good of them to continue their education at an institution of higher learning :lmao:

Perhaps a BS in Infestation?
