Because I'm So Wordy: Running the Course to Blisterville

Great report! Thanks for taking the time to write it.

What fun to read, and what a great job you did on that half! This race is on my list of possibilities for next year.

Well, I guess I am another one that has no life. Actually, my life is work, the gym and the DIS. That's all I know. Debra, your report was great and very inspiring. It has motivated me to try to get to the point where I can do the next 1/2 marathon nearby.

Thanks alot!!!
Bryan:cheer2:

What a fantastic report! Congrats on the PR, and I hope those blisters heal up quickly.

Oh, and ice cream outranks carrot cake ANY day. :)

Debra- I have no life!!! I just read your entire report AND loved it! It truly inspires me to do my first 1/2.

Thanks Debra, that was absolutely BRILLIANT!

I am with you, running in rain is the absolute pits. Snow = fine, rain = terrible. I'm sorry about those blisters, and am doubly impressed with your result in those conditions for your 2nd ever half marathon.

And, wow, is your spousal unit fast. 3:34 in terrible conditions? Geez. Is he going to be in Orlando in January? If yes, please point him out to me so I can stay out of his way.

Random and possibly tangential comments on your reportS:

1. And you expected a caribbean restaurant in Cleveland to be good?

2. Eating Ben & Jerry's, all covered and warm, watching the Simpsons? How great is that.

3. In laws are a trip, aren't they? My favorite was many years ago as I went out in a 2 degree day for a run. "You know running in weather like this will burn out your lungs, don't you?" My reply, " I suspect that isn't true, otherwise there would be dead inuits littered all over Alaska and Canada."

4. The RnR Hall of Fame is really, really cool, with lots of great exhibits. I was there with Lesley when she was 18 (5'7" tall, maybe 118 pounds, but with the muscular legs of a soccer and lacrosse player), and we nearly fell over with laughter in the exhibition of clothing worn by rock stars. You see, she was too tall and too muscular to wear any of the outfits :scared1: .

Congratulations, and let those blisters heal.

Craig

Debra - Great report. Sorry about the conditions but except for the blisters, you conquered it.

Wow, Debra, what a great read! My hat's off to you, girl - you so rock! No way would I have been able to get through those conditions - I SO don't do blisters! If I even get close to developing one, I am the most helpless female you will ever meet. So I think you have a true champion's spirit to keep going and not let your poor feet and the rain get you down! And DOOD (love the acronym, by the way - too cute!!!) did really great, too. You guys are a super team!

Thanks for such a great RR - can't wait for the next one!

Debra - Tremendous report, very well done!! I'm digesting my way through it (it was kind of like eating a great big steak...you love it while chewing it down...but then need a few min to loosen the old belt and recap what you just experienced).

I know...poor analogy...but I will be back later with more verbose thoughts :)

Great job!

Awesome report Debra! Congrats on your PR and DOOD's PR :)

Hope your feet feel better soon! I get blisters (and the occasional black toe) too so I am all too familiar with funny looks :)

Yay, Debra!:cheer2: Awesome report. You made it easy to visualize your entire experience. I love that you went back to see if the party was still going on and instead you were able to cheer in the DLF, that had to make you smile.:) As always, I love your humor and sarcasm, it always makes for a fun read! I'm proud of you girl! You rock!:cheer2: :cheer2:

Now you know I had to read the whole thing!

Debra -- as usual you're eloquent and entertaining! It is always a pleasure to read your posts, and I personally believe brevity is highly overrated!

I know it wasn't your dream race, but all things considered, you did it! Woohoo!

Congratulations (and thanks for those double miles for Team Ohana)!

Maria

4000 words??

Wow, it seemed like so much........................ more. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Seriously. Ok maybe not, but a great report.

Sounds like it was a good time in spite of the detaching flesh & the weather.

Debra - (debbie?? I had a very best friend in elementary school named debbie.) anyway...... that was a great race report!!:cool1: :cool1:
Don't know if I could have handled the blisters, even though at the Miami ING Half this year at about mile 6 I realized my right sock was folded in a bunch over the toe next to my big toe. I didn't stop to take care of it and end up with the nail separating from the toe, never turned black, but it is almost healed to this day and has a bump there. ugh!!
Hope the blisters get better soon and hope the medal was great bling!! I also would have chosen the ice cream over the carrot cake.

CONGRATULATIONS, Debra!
Sounds like the Race of Champions to me :thumbsup2

So enjoyed your report...
And it's okay, but truly I do not have a life either :guilty:

Debra, I just finished reading your report, so add me to the list of people without a life (although you already knew that about me anyway :lmao: ). I loved your report. You have such a way with words, even when it's 4000+ words. :rotfl:

You should definitely give yourself a pat on the back. I know it wasn't the finish you'd hoped for, but given the conditions in which you ran, I'd say you rocked! :woohoo:

I hope those blisters are healing quickly!

Nice race report Debra. I know exactly what you are talking about at each part since I did it in 2006. We don’t have a lot of spectator interaction; in fact of all the halves I’ve done we probably had the worst. But the course is fast so I guess you take the bad with the good. That hotel is where all of our auditors stay when they come in and I have only heard good things. Plus in some rooms you can overlook Progressive Field. Sorry about our lack of vegetarian stuff downtown. One of the problems with out downtown area is that the majority of us live in the Suburbs so downtown pretty much shuts down after business hours.

Finally, I've read it! I am so proud of you for getting it done! Your report is definitely a worthy read and since I've never participated/spectated this event and live here it gives me all the info I need to share with others.

Great job!

Yes, I do run to eat. No shame in saying that for all the world to see. LOL :rotfl2:

Deb, for those blisters, either lube up your feet with good 'ole Vaseline, or Bodyglide before putting on your socks. And if you have black toes, then upsize your shoes to 1/2 or 1 full size bigger, and go one size wider.
