Because I'm always baffled by point usage, I have a question....

We currently have all of our points at OKW, so booking & using points has never been an issue because we've almost always stayed there.

We are looking into buying more points, but at Vero Beach.

So....if I buy 50 points at Vero but I need 52 for my reservation, do they use my OKW points?

How do they handle the 7 / 11 month rule?

Sorry for such a basic question!

It's really not that hard. :)

You can only use points from your home resort for home resort only reservations 7-11 months. You can use ANY points you have (banked, current or borrowed) at < 7 months.

YOU get to decide what points are used for what reservations WITHIN the preceding parameters.

If you buy 50 VB points, you can use those 50 points to make reservations at VB as early as 11 months out. If you have 100 points at OKW (as an example), you can use those 100 points to make reservations at OKW as early as 11 months out. The 2 contracts only 'cross' points once you get to 7 months. If you need 52 points for VB, you can only access the OKW points at 7 months for the 2 points you need for that VB reservation.

So if you needed 52 points for a Vero Beach stay, but only had 50 VB points in your Use Year, then you would either need to...
1. wait until 7 months out to book, using your 50 VB points plus 2 OKW points
OR
2. book some nights at VB using current VB points and then add on an additional night at the 7 month mark using OKW points
OR
3. borrow 2 VB points from the next Use Year to make your complete booking at the 11-month mark.

Hope this helps!

At one point, years ago, you could only combine points if the two contracts had the same UY. Otherwise it would be two different reservations (If you want 4 nights at 13 points/night at VB, you would need to book 3 nights with the VB points and 1 night with the OKW points, at 7 months, rather than 50 VB/2 OKW on the same reservation).
Has this changed?

You can transfer points from one membership to another and then book one single reservation.

But, if contracts are in different UYs, and you don’t transfer then you must book some nights on one and some on the other

Regardless points can never be used elsewhere until 7 months.
