We had reported a few months ago that the "Bear in the Big Blue House" show would be closing some time this summer. It was unclear at the time if the closing was a rehab or permanant shut-down of this wildly popular family stage show located at the MGM Studios. Screamscape is reporting that the rumors were true and it seems Disney has confirmed it on their website(although I can not find the official announcement at this time anywhere on Disney.com). The Bear In The Big Blue House show will merge with other popular Disney Channel characters (Book of Pooh & Rolie Polie Olie) to create a new bigger show. I imagine this has more to do with a tie-in of their plans to launch a 24hr Playhouse Disney Channel than anything else. Rgerdless, my daughter loves Playhouse Disney and all of the various characters. I think that most kids/families will welcome the change, particularly since Bear will still play a prominant role in the show. Word also has it that the new stage setting may include aisled seating. Previosuly, guests would gather around the stage and sit on the floor(very rough on the back). I'll keep you updated as details come out.

While working over by Bear several weeks ago we were shown blueprints for the new set. The stage appears to have rotating segments much like Doug. It will remain in the same building and will not have seats according to everyone I have spoken to.

I was so much hoping that the new seating arrangements were true. Thank you very much for the update.

I don't know about a link on the official site but there is a short article in the most recent Mickey Monitor (AP newsletter).

"Attention, Passholders! Beginning October 1, grab the little ones and head for Soundstage 5 at the Disney MGM Studios! Because not only do we have all the excitement of the 100 Years of Magic Celebration, we've got some Playhouse Disney friends from Disney Channel coming to join Bear in the Big Blue House for a new imaginative, musical revue as well! Come journey through the storied worlds of Bear in the Big Blue House, Rolie Polie Olie, The Book of Pooh and come meet Stanley - the newest addition to Playhouse Disney - as you sing, dance and play along with the characters themselves."

Ohhh -- no mention of PB&J.... :(

Well, we'll definitely enjoy seeing Bear and Olie!

I would love to see seats too, but that would cut out the dancing part. Unfortunately even the few benches for adults don't have backs ! Mabe they could add more benches against the wall.

I just got back from Disney and they are using the old Doug que as a meet and greet for Bear. The hat is going along nicely!

Bear in meet and greets!?! I wonder how HUGE he would be! I never heard about this until now. New characters rule.

I took these pics of bear earlier this week.

http://argo668.tripod.com/mgm click on bear1.jpg and bear2.jpg (sorry, tripod won't let me link directly to the files)

It's the exact same one as the show, which means he can do all of the pics you like, but he CANNOT sign autographs.

oh my gosh....meet and greet bear ! I cant wait !!!!! thanks for the info ! laura

WOW! Wish they had this back in June! My daughter would pee her pants! (Course she does that anyway, since she is two :) )

You need to know that this isn't a highly themed meet-n-greet, it has two poles with the Bear in the Big Blue House symbol on it in a circle. The background is a trellis and some ivy.

Any word on when the rehab will begin on the Bear set? Does anyone know if the show is still running? We will be back in "the World" in a week and my 4 yr old lives for that live show! I'm not sure we've made a trip without seeing it at least twice in the last 2 yrs! Though, perhaps with a chance to meet Bear up close and personal (the child has still not recovered from the fiasco of the live meet and greet with bear at TDS in Manhattan a while back), she might recover.

TIA

Bear is closed. There is a wall around the stage and has Mickey and Brooms on it. The show has been removed from the map. The show is undergoing rehab with new sets and more Play House Disney Characters like Rollie Pollie Ollie. It will reopen Oct. 1st with the 100 Years of Magic Celebration.
