We are doing "only" disney, with ME and no rental car. My kids keep asking "can we go to the beach", because in the past with off property and a car we have done that. My question is: Is there anywhere on property that is "beach" for the kids to enjoy playing in the sand and then going in the water? We will go to the waterparks, so maybe that will suffice? I know pool hopping is a no-no, I don't know if any of the resorts let you IN the water by their beach areas.

safetymom is correct.

The only WDW "beaches" I can tell you about are at Caribbean Beach Resort. The kids can play in the sand -- some of the food court kids meals are actually served in a bucket and come with a little shovel -- and can get their tootsies wet and the grown-ups can lounge in a nearby hammock or lounge chair.

It'll be enough to fool the kids, I suppose, but Disney's beaches are nothing like a real beach. Don't get me wrong, I love CBR. But my wife and I moved 500 miles away to live at the beach, the real beach. To me, the sand at water's edge is only a tiny part of the beach. The smell of salt air ... the sound of lapping water and crashing waves ... the looking out onto the horizon ... that's the beach, at leats to me. CBR does the best it can.

Take them to the waterparks they have a great play area and plenty of water.

You don't say where you are staying, but if you are at Beach Club or Yacht Club, you have access to Stormalong Bay, which has sand-bottomed pools and even a sandbar in the middle of one pool that kids can play in.

There is also a small (but deep! 8ft in places!) lazy river. It's like a tiny waterpark.

Even if you were a DVC member with pool-hopping privs, Stormalong Bay is off limits unless you are staying at BC or YC though.

I'm not sure where you are staying, but there are a few resorts that have beaches for playing in the sand, and sun tanning. BC,YC,GF,CBR,Poly,CR,WL,CSR,FW, are some I can think of, just no swimming. As many as I can think of including the values have sand box type areas.

I don't know what the cost is, but I know some of the sightseeing companies offer half day and full day beach trips, including transportation. If the kids are really interested, you could check into it. You could also rent a car for the day (which would probably be cheaper). You can rent cars right on property.

Doesn't the Typhoon Lagoon waterpark have a beach area??

I was hoping you could actually get in the water at CBR, but I think the waterparks will keep them plenty busy. It's not the sand so much as splashing in the waves. A wave pool will have to suffice (less sand to dig out of swimsuits and body crevices! LOL) Thanks!

If memory serves, Typhoon Lagoon is the sandy water park and Blizzard Beach is all concrete.

If you get park passes with water park admissions then by all means do that, it will feel a lot like a beach day.

If not, you can rent a car for about $40 for a day (Alamo at car care center and Dolphin, Hertz is nearby and will pick you up). Atlantic and Gulf beaches are both about an hour and a half drive.
