My family (dH, dd's 7/5) are going to WDW in August (1st time). We would love to spend a day at the beach. Is there a Disney shuttle to say Vero Beach for a day trip (it seems rather expensive to stay for a night). We are booked at POFR for 7 nights and I know there is so much to see and do already but I was thinking on the last day (hoping to book a late evening flight) of doing this beach trip in the am/pm or I was wondering if it would be worth it to just add a night to our stay and just stay off sight close to the beach. Any suggestions.
We are thinking about renting a car. Worth it? Or should we just use Disney transportation (though the commutes sound long). Any advice would be appreciated. ::MinnieMo

We always try to get a beach day in. Sometimes we go over to the gulf side to Fort Desoto State park (2hrs) or sometimes we go over to Cape Canaveral where the Disney ships anchor (1 hour from the airport, 1.5 from WDW). The atlantic is a little colder than the gulf but in August that won't matter. There are some nice hotels along the beach at Cape Canaveral that you could stay at. We have stayed at the Radisson prior to a Disney cruise. There is also a new Ron Jons that sounds fun. The DISer's on the Cruise part of the boards can help you with these hotels.

If you do go the Cape side, be sure to eat at Grill's www.visitgrills.com. It's on the waterway the Disney ships use to go to sea, so if you time it right, you can watch them sail away.
