I would like to know a liitle about the Beach Cottages at Vero beach. My 4 brothers and sisters are also DVC members, and every other year we like to get together, preferably at a DVC Resort. We tried HH last year and we had 2 Grand Villas. They were vey nice and accomdating (20 of us) we split the point total 5 ways, which makes it affordable using points.
We were a little dissapointed that they(cottages) were not very close to each other on the property at HH. There are some younger children in attandence. I was wondering at Vero, if the Beach cottages(1450 and 1475) are close to each other, where younger children (ages 10-14) don't have to be accompanied by an adult to walk to next Beach Cottage. I do have map of propety (Vero Beach Map)but I would like to hear from somebody that actually stayed at one or 2 of the Cottages. And how close they are to the pool and the Ocean. And are the beaches crowded?
I would appreciate any help or comments or e-mail me direct at NCLIGS1@aol.com

Thanks

We've not stayed in one, but we have been in them. 1450 and 1475 are actually fairly close together; don't know the exact distance, but I wouldn't be concerned about a 10 year old going from one to the other. The cottages afford a wonderful view of the ocean, but you are not allowed to just walk across the dune to get to the ocean - you need to go to the dune crossing boardwalk to gain access. Vero is such a small resort though, that nothing is very far.

One of those 2 units used to be their display model - I'm not sure if that is still the case or not.

The beaches weren't crowded when we were there, but that was September.

Well, if you have a map you can see that they are pretty close to one another, I'd think children would be safe walking between. The second floor with the great room looks directly out on the beach, which never seems crowded in our experience. It is a much narrower beach than Hilton Head, but then running back and forth from the pool to the beach is easy. You can see the pool area from the back balconies of the cottages. I confess I have never stayed in one, so please factor that in. I have only attended coffees in the morning, and foind myself in my one bedroom having to look across the path over the beach cottage to see the ocean from my one bedroom view.

Your set up of combining points with friends to get a beach cottage sounds like a good strategy. I think you'll be pleased, the cotteges are very nice, and the Vero resort is not very large, everything is within easy reach and walking distance. You could pretty much crawl everywhere and still be able to get around well given the close proximity the areas have to one another (except activities across the street).

You'll find biking more limited than at Hilton Head, which has wonderful biking opportunities. Restaraunts will take a longer drive, if you do not eat onsite. The beach is much more narrow than Hilton Head, which means there is less sand area to run around on, but it also puts your beach cottage pretty close to the ocean. I've never seen the beaches too crowded. Beach access is limited to one stairway/ramp, you cannot just walk out the front of your cottage to the beach, you'll have to walk around.

The resort feels very safe, and security guards can be seen making their checks at night. When we have been there, the pool did not close at night, guests were requested to stay quiet, but you could swim very late.

I think that addresses some of your questions. You've probably got access to the layouts of the cottages, so you see how the bedrooms are on the bottom where the beach view is blocked by the tall grasses and vegitation that is in place to ward off erosion. But the second floor with the great room has a wonderful beach view.

I'd better make some friends who are DVC members so we could try your trick of pooling points for get the cottage. That would be nice.

As you can see on the map, the BC are clustered on either end of the resort. It's not far from one end to the other but I don't know whether you'd want small children at night going that distance past the beach entrance and the pool area (just tempting hazards). If you are in the same cluster there's no problem at all....maybe 30 seconds door to door.

Of course, you can also see that there are only 6 cottages and they seem to use one of them for DVC events almost constantly. It may be tricky to get 2 cottages at 7 months out. But, you did at HHI so it's not impossible.

I would think it might be trickey to get two next to each other. There would have to be two cottages being emptied from guest the very same day you move in. Perhaps there is a certain day that this does usually happen.

Good luck. You will get a wonderful ocean view.
