Just returned from WDW and I spent some time checking out the BCV construction. They seem to be progressing rapidly. The wing closest to the original Beach Club was up to 3 stories tall. It looks like this section will be 4 stories when complete. This section runs parallel to the current Beach Club. (Note: All of these "sections" are part of one large building, not individual buildings.) They were working on the 5th story of the middle section, which will be the maximum height of the Villas. The middle section is at a 45 degree angle to the section closest to the current Beach Club. This section extends back toward Epcot Resorts Blvd., so when complete, the building will have a Y-shape. The third section only had some foundations in place. This section is the farthest from the current Beach Club building, and is roughly parallel to the entrance drive. It looks like this section may actually be built over the "river" that is in front of the Beach Club (the water that you drive across just before you get to the front door of the Beach Club). The back side of the Villas will be very close to the road. On the plus side, some of these rooms, especially on the upper floors, look like they will have great views of Epcot and Illuminations.

Although many of the guides will not verify that the BCV will be part of DVC, there was a large sign just outside the front door of the Beach Club which had a picture of the new Villas (the same artists rendering that's been posted in the past), and stated "Beach Club Villas - A Disney Vacation Club Resort. Opening Fall 2002."

I would try to avoid the standard view rooms overlooking the construction right now. The Villas are very close to the current building and I suspect that there is a lot of noise, not to mention a pretty crummy view. The first floor rooms are surrounded by a solid wood fence about 8 feet away from the door to the patio.

They are also building a new bridge from near the front door of the the Beach Club direct to the bus stop. I guess this will allow people to avoid the main bridge that the cars take up to the front entrance.

Let me know if you have any questions.
:)

I spoke to my guide yesterday and she said they will be for sale as soon as the construction is complete, and she put me on a list to receive info. She also said the price would be higher than VWL!

to see if by chance you got any pictures that you can post showing the construction.

RweTHEREyet?

Thanks for the excellent report. I wonder how bad those street view rooms will be? There is quite a bit of traffic coming up that road. Do you get the impression that they are squeezed in, unlike BW which was planned from the start?

I do have a few pictures. Unfortunately, they are still in my camera with a few pictures left on the roll. I don't have a scanner, so when I develop them, I'll have to find a way to put them up.

The new building does seem a little "squeezed in". There were a lot of new trees planted along Epcot Resorts Blvd, so hopefully they'll isolate the Villas from the road with vegetation. Also, Epcot Resorts Blvd. does not have a huge amount of traffic, so hopefully it won't be to noisy anyway.

thanks for posting. i'll try to get over (if i can waddle that far from beaches &cream or the cape may buffet:rolleyes: ) when we go home in may. i guess we'll have to wait and see just how much more than vwl the per point cost will be.

Where are they going to put parking spaces in to accomodate all those BCV guests, not to mention the spaces they've already taken away from the BC? It was terrible trying to get a parking space at the BC last November.

Thanks for the update.

I just closed on points for the VWL and in the contract is a statement warning buyers that we should not be buying VWL for any future thought of being able to use those points at the BCV. I thought it was an unusual warning to have in the contract. Could this mean that Disney is thinking about something slightly different for the BCV? Was this warning in past contracts for other locations?

I bought at Boardwalk in September 1999 and there were the same warnings in the paperwork about VWL. I think it's a legal thing, they can't promise you that BCV will be DVC until it is completed and declared part of DVC.

I guess it is important to remember that you are, primarily buying into your home resort and anything offered over and above that is "icing on the cake" and can be changed/deleted at any time.

Somewhere (some DVC form) I read a statement saying that the "special programs" (WDW Resorts, WDW discounts, Timeshare exchanged) were made available for "3 years or less" and that you should not purchase the DVC based on the availability of the special programs.

It will be interesting to see how the whole "special programs" offerings change over the furture....

Not sure if the wording is "legal ease" or not, but it sure gives Disney a lot of lattitude to cancel/cut certain programs in the future once they reach a point where everything is sold and they stop building....

Just my two cents ! ! !

{By the way, I just put a deposit down on 200 pts. so I am not tooo concerned!)

Looking at the satellite picture of the BC area, there was additional room near the old parking lot to expand into. This area has been cleared and is full of construction equipment. Also, they could build another lot across Epcot Resorts Blvd. (kind of like the self parking at the GF, which is across Flordian Way). There's a lot of room across the street.
