Beach Club standard room vs water view

I just called last night and made reservations at the Beach Club!!!! We booked a standard room, and now my husband and I are thinking that maybe we should upgrade to a water view. Has anyone ever stayed at a standard room? We were thinking that a water view might be better to get the whole "feel" of the Epcot resort area. (We will also be celebrating our 19th anniversary when we are there. ) Has anyone stayed in both rooms that you could compare the advantages/disadvantaes of water view over the standard view. They only reason that we chose the standard view originally was due to price, but now we are thinking that the extra money might be worth spending.
Also, should we upgrade as soon as possible, or wait until check in?
Thanks for all of your help!!!!!!

Gee it was 8 years ago when we were last a Disney and we stayed at the Beach Club. We stayed in a water-view room that overlooked the SAB with a balcony. I didn't regret the extra money at all. We sat on our balcony at night and were able to see just about all of the fireworks coming from MGM. When we were there that is when they were constructing the Boardwalk resort.

When we were there in November we had a standard view. It also overlooked SAB, although there were some trees that could have been trimmed. I thought it was a fine view - at least we didn't get the parking lot!!

However, we didn't have a "walk-out" balcony. It was just one that you could open the doors to & stand outside to view what you wanted to see. Is this the difference between a standard & water view? I'm not sure because we have never had a water view.

Let me tell you, there is nothing short of Heaven that beats a water view room w/full balcony facing the Boardwalk and Crescent Lake. I have stayed in a standard room and a water view room at the Beach Club, and the waterview room was the definite highlight of the entire trip. Sitting on the balcony early morning/and evening taking in the great view and watching the boardwalk and seeing the swan/dolphin all lit up at night is amazing from the water-view room. In the standard room we had a view of a tree trunk and that was about it. YES!!!! Upgrade if you can. There is a small chance you could get an upgrade at check-in, but I wouldn't risk it. (As you can see I am very passionate about this!!):bounce: Especially if you are celebrating a special occasion - Be very specific in your request for Boardwalk view and full balcony!! And fax in your request prior to arrival. I have done this every time and have always gotten a great room at the Beach Club. (except when I booked standard room)

We stayed at BC last year. We booked a concierge level standard view. I got in that room, took one look out my window and called down to the front to be moved to a waterview. We had a view of the parking lot and just below us was the roof of the lobby. We paid for the upgrade and moved to a view of the SAB and the lake. If you've ever seen the "Great Hotels" Beach Club show, that was my view except we were on the 5th floor. I never regretted spending the extra $50 a night for the better view.

Beware though-waterview can also mean overlooking the quiet pools which are in sort of a courtyard type of thing. Be specific if you can.

Mom_Rules is right, once I paid and extra $50/nt for waterview and had a view of the quiet pool. Since then I have always made sure to request "Lake View"

We stayed in concierge in November and had a waterview room, only the trees were so overgrown that you could barely see the water. I would say book the waterview but make sure to request a FULL balcony and a view of the lake. If you get to your room and are disappointed at all call down and ask if there is something else. The B.C. is a great hotel. You will love it.

Thanks for all of your help and wonderful suggestions! We are really looking forward to this trip, and especially staying at the Beach Club.

I would question one of the earlier posters who said that they had a standard view room overlooking SAB. Correct me if I am wrong, and I may be, but I thought that any view overlooking SAB would be considered a water-view room?

I also agree with Confal1. If you get to your room and don't enjoy the view, especially if you asked for water-view, I would definitely call down to the front desk and complain. This happened to DW and I on our honeymoon at YC in 98. We had requested a water-view room, and when we looked out our window 85% of it was covered by trees. I called down to the front desk and they told me that this room was indeed listed as water-view (I could see Crescent Lake if I bent close enough to the floor), but they would send a CM up to take a look. Five minutes later there was a knock at the door. The CM took one look out the window, and asked us if we had unpacked. We hadn't, so they had a bellhop pick up our stuff and we were moved to a room with a "spectacular" view of Crescent Lake and the Boardwalk. This was in November, however. It might be touch and go during the busy months.

That was me! :D We didn't request a water view, in fact we requested a standard view because we were only going to be there one night & were checking in late, so I couldn't justify spending the extra money for it.

Although the view was obstucted by some trees, I would have definitely considered it a water view. It did overlook SAB. I guess we just got lucky. :p

I cant' speak for the BC, but we always request a standard room if available at the YC, the sister resort.

Many of the standard rooms at the YC have a nice view. Last year we overlooked the quiet pool, and we were next door to where the waterview rooms officially started. Also to keep in mind is that there are full balconies on all the rooms at the YC. :):):)

"New" Yacht & Beach Club Questions & Answers
Joe Cool post

There is a link to floor plans for the Yacht & Beach Club. It is color coded by the type of room. If you look at that map, you will see that there are some very nice standard view rooms. We were there in November and we had a room that was in the wing closest to Epcot and the room faced the quiet pool. You could see the Boardwalk from the room.

Here's your best shot at getting a room area that you want (it has never failed me):

2 days prior to your check in, call the resort directly and ask for the "Room Assigner". Be as polite and friendly as you can and ask if you can request a specific area of the resort. From the map, choose the area that you want (e.g., facing the quiet pool, facing the tennis courts, etc.).

Tip: Make sure you reiterate your smoking preference. I requested a specific room and got a great one, but it was smoking. When I called the front desk, they said they only had one non-smoking room left, but it was on the first floor facing the quiet pool. I didn't have a choice, so I took it. Well, it was GREAT! We could walk out of the sliding door and go right to the pool. I never would have requested that location for a room and it turned out to be WONDERFUL.

The key is to talk to the room assigner 2 or less days prior to your check-in. Sometimes they will only let you talk to them if you are checking in the day before or the day of. The nicer you are, the more luck you will have.

Have fun! You are going to love the Beach Club. I have stayed at YC/BC many times in recent years and always loved our stay. However, the first time we stayed there, before we knew the "ropes", we did not request anything particular and we wound up over the front entrance. Buses all day and night! Make sure you call.

Enjoy:wave: -

I belive the water view is worth it. We always stayed in the waterview rooms. The view looking over Cresent Lake and Boardwalk is really beautiful.

However, last time, when we stayed at YC, we had to ask for a room change because it would have had a great waterview if it weren't for a big tree in front of it. The CM changed us to another room which had a perfect view. However, this room was at the end of the hotel (very close to the bridge to Dolphin). It was a LONG walk in the morning to go to B&C to get coffee and breakfast.

If I were staying there again, I would definitely stay at BC, rather than YC just because it is closer to B&C and Epcot. We did have a full balcony, however, there were these little bugs there all the time (is it "no-see'ems (sp?)) that we could't really sit out there (it was around Mother's Day, never thought of encountering this problem before).

Regarding the breakfast at Beaches & Cream......I was at the Beach Club in November 2002 and B&C was not open for breakfast. You had to go to the lobby of the Beach Club for breakfast. It was VERY disappointing. The selection wasn't anywhere near as good as B&C and there were not good places to sit down (except the couches in the lobby). We wound up going to the Boardwalk Bakery. Hopefully, it was only temporary.

Question: Can someone tell me how to make the countdown for the next Disney trip? I love it, but haven't figured out how to do it. THANKS!!:D

Lynn,
Go to the technical board forum and there is a thread that will explain exactly how to get the countdown timer. :):):)
