DH and I are staying at the Beach Club this August, our very first time at a Deluxe resort. I few people recommended "renting points" from a DVC member to save money.

I confess I am clueless about this and therefore very hesitant. Can anyone explain this process to me, in easy to understand lingo? :confused3

That was recommended to us once too, but it makes me nervous also. Info is available on the DVC board here, you will not really find out much on this resort board. I would reserch this throughly before I made a decision thou. The price seems to fluctuate a bit. I would of felt better knowing the person whom I was renting from. Remember you are then considered "dvc" and housekeeping etc.. would be under the dvc policies.

I would really recommend heading over to the DVC points board...lots of info over there.

We've never rented out our points, but may choose to do so in the future...not sure. we use them up too much now! ;)

I can tell you that the DVC experience is magnificent - we usually get a 1BR and having the extra room and full kitchen...whirlpool tub...it's just wonderful. Privacy for your family - kids can nap or go to bed early while you still have lots of square footage to yourself with a TV, lights on, balcony...

WARNING: it can spoil you for further vacations!

We have wanted to stay at Y&BC or BW for years. Too expensive!

However, I started lurking on the DVC board & educated myself on how renting points works. The Unofficial Guide also has info on renting points. Here's a great place to start:

Anyways, using the points calculator, I determined I needed 134 points for our next trip (July 2006) for a stay at Beach Club Villas. I posted on the DVC rental board & got several offers. I'm renting 134 points for $10.75/point from a BCV owner. That comes out to $207/night. 2006 rack rate is about $346. I saved roughly 40% & got a rate within my budget.

Pretty cool, huh? Check it out for yourself & see if you can save $$$.

We rented twice from the rent/trade board here on the DIS. We had a great experience each time. DVC can't be beat and we are now members!! I would also suggest going to the DVC board or do a search and read up on as much as you could about renting. I'll explain how I went about renting:
First I desided when I wanted to go. I already knew that the weekends at a DVC require more points so I stuck to a Sun-Thurs. ressie. 5 nights 6 days. We then booked the weekend with a code. I knew my dates and which resort/view I wanted. I went on the rent/trade board and responded to posts for rentals from people who were "regulars" on these boards. People that have been members for awhile and had alot of posts. Anyway. I paid $10 per point for 60 points. We agreed on the amount and deposit. Everyone has different terms. I paid via paypal the $300 deposit AFTER I got the confirmation# of the ressie in MY name. I then sent the balance 30 days before via paypal per our agreement. I also called member services and made sure the ressie was still made before that!LOL It really was very smooth. I had the renters personal info like name, address, home# and cell#. I felt very comfortable with the arrangement.
You really save a ton of money this way. If I were you and wanted to stay at the BC, I would definately rent points for the BCV. If you post your dates I could tell you how many points you'll need.

I have always rented points from a DVC member for our resort stays. It gives you the opportunity to stay in deluxe accommodations without the deluxe prices. We stayed at VWL in a studio for $120 a night without paying taxes or fees for the room. This October we're staying at OKW in a studio for $80 a night. It's a great value!

However, when you rent points for a stay in a DVC resort (especially BC) you have to do so at least 7-12 months in advance because they book up fast.

My dates are Monday August 22-Monday August 29 2005. thanks for the help!!

You won't be able to rent points for BCV at this point. You really have to book it at least 7 months out. Beach Club Villas is one of the smaller DVC resorts and VERY popular. It's even hard to get at 7 months out during certain times of the year.

I've been trying to figure out how to stay in the BC Villas too, but with 3 kids, we'd need a 2 bedroom. For a week in the summer (July 6 - 13, 2006) it doesn't look like it would be affordable to us even renting points. Maybe I'm calculating wrong, but that weekend in the middle adds to the points needed quite a bit! (Using 2005 points needed which was 350 per week, it worked out to be $500 a night at $10 a point. Even the weekdays are 40 points a night, which would be $400!)

But what are you getting for $400 a night? Two bedrooms, sleeping space for 8 people. A washer and dryer in your villa. A full kitchen with dishes, etc. A jacuzzi tub in your bathroom. Two bathrooms. A king sized bed in the master bedroom. A DVD or VCR in your living room. Three TVs.

Friday and Saturday nights are the highest point nights of the week. But if you average them out over the week, it's not bad. We always stay at least a week to 10 days in our DVC villa.

DVC rentals are definitely more economical for stays during the week. We usually rent points for Sun-Thurs nights then use an AP rate code for the weekend. The AP rates have been great the past few years.

You would need 123 points for a stay at BCV in a studio for the dates you stated. It os probably going to be next to impossible to get the BCV for this Aug. So, I would say if you were to rent points the only DVC that might have availability is OKW and SSR. For OKW studio it would be 98 points and SSR would be 112 points. If I were you and really wanted to rent a villa I would get moving fast! Us DVC'ers make our ressies at 11 months out at our home resorts and 7 months out fo the others so they book up fast!
Good luck!
