Beach Club - point diff worth it between studio and 1br?

We have never stayed at the Beach Club before and will be doing so this Labor Day weekend! :cool1: My question is - there's a huge points difference between the studio and the 1br and having never seen either room I'm not sure it's worth it. We're currently booked for 4 nights (Fri-Tue) and it's 122 points for a 1br or 66 points for a studio. Travelling will be myself, dh, dd4, ds1. I had to borrow some points for the 1br reservation but only because this trip was kind of unplanned and I had already rented out the balance of my points. I have until end of July to bank the difference (Dec UY) and I will have excess points for next year as well (which I was thinking to rent out as well).

So....should I waitlist for a studio or keep my reservation as is? We purposely bought enough points for a 1br because we didn't want a tight squeeze as the kids got older but at this age I'm not sure it makes much of a difference?

I would recommend the 1 bedroom. It is so much nicer than a studio - you have so much more space. You have a full kitchen, a huge bathtub, and a washer and dryer in your villa, which you don't get with a studio. DVC larger villas will spoil you, it is so hard to go back to a studio after a vacation in a 1 or 2 bedroom villa.

I should have added that after we saw the difference between a studio and a 1br at BLT, we always get the 1br if available. How does the size of a studio at BC compare to the size of a studio at BLT?

The BLT studio is the smallest of all the studios. BCV studio is similar to VWL, BWV.

While I have not stayed at BCV, I did stay last summer in studios at BWV, VWL, and BLT.

BLT was definitely smaller than the other two. It was me, DS 20, DD16, and DD13 and we did not feel cramped in the studios for the nights we were there.
I don't know if I would do BLT for very many nights with 4 (we only did it for two), but the others were no problem. I would assume that BCV studios are similar. Matter of fact, we are staying 3 nights in a BCV studio this summer and then going to a 1 bedroom at BLT for the other 3 nights--figured it was a way to conserve points but also get the benefit of the 1 bedroom (ie: washer/dryer, king bed for DH and I, and jacuzzi tub!!!). Plus, we don't mind the split stays.

With your family size, I think you would be okay in a studio and saving 66 points is alot, IMO.

Good luck!

you got 2 little kids - so would go with the studio too.

unless you need to leave the room so the little ones can nap. You can go out on the balcony. but that gets boring.

so if you are planning on naps in the room - might go with 1-bedroom.

your borrowed points can not go back to their former year - you can not bank them - they must be used in this use year

Couldn't she cancel and rebook studio with borrowed pts and bank this year's pts.?

Thanks for the replies. I think I'm going to waitlist for the studio. Only some of the points for the 1br trip are borrowed (about 40 out of 122) so MS said that I could retain the borrowed points for the studio reservation and then bank the excess points into next year so long as the wait list comes through before my banking deadline.

Thanks!! :goodvibes

if you get to do this. DEFINITELY check them.

they can make mistakes when they are using borrowed points. so make sure the reservation is correct and they have banked your points correctly.

definitely do this before your banking deadline.

I would definitely keep the one bedroom. It is so nice to have down time after the kids are asleep to watch tv, talk, etc. without having to whisper the whole time. Plus, having the full kitchen is great to keep breakfast foods and fruit items for the kids.

I don't think family size is as much the issue as family age. We have a one year old and there is no way we would do a studio (not just because of naps but because of all of the space he needs to run around and for all of his stuff). We look forward to the day when we can share a studio, and would probably do it if we had to now, but if you have a choice then spend the extra points and get the one bedroom. It will be much for comfortable for you guys, and for the kids too. In particular, having your own room to relax and watch tv after the kids go to bed is invaluable.

Thanks, great points on both sides. I definitely want Beach Club so for now I'm keeping my 1br res, waitlisted for the studio, if it comes up between now and July 31 then fine and I'll bank the excess points, and if it doesn't then I'll be happy with the 1br. This is only a 4 night trip and we're getting the meal plan so kitchen and laundry aren't that big a deal. Honestly, neither is the hot tub because we have one in our master bathroom at home and *never* use it. We like our space though. We'll be happy with either one I'm sure!

Thank you for all the insight!! :grouphug:
