Beach Bash Question

Anyone else been told by MS that you DO NOT have to be staying on property to attend the DVC Beach Bash? I was going to book an additional night (like you had to last year) so we could attend but the MS representative I spoke to said it was not necessary. She said any DVC member can attend the Beach Bash just by registering. I hate to get to the registration day in April and be told otherwise. Thanks in advance for your help!

We are registered for the 3-3-16 DVC 25 and beyond event at the MK and we are not staying on site on that night.
I would think the Beach Bash works the same.

ETA: My bad. On the information page about the Beach Bash on the member site, it does say you need to be staying at a resort hotel to book. (See the second bullet under important information below.)

Note: that bullet about staying at a resort hotel does not appear for the 25 and beyond bash at the MK on 2-15-16 and 3-3-16, which started taking reservations on January 12th. I wonder if after they started taking bookings for the MK event they realized a large number of members were reserving for the MK event who were not staying on grounds and changed the requirements for the Beach Bash or if the Beach Bash requirements were always different than the 25 and Beyond Bash at the MK?

Since you do not have to be staying at a resort hotel for for the MK event, which is the one they are currently booking, the MS representative you spoke with may have been confussed about the Beach Bash requirements since they have not yet actually booked any reservations for that event.
How to Book:
A reservation is required, and bookings will begin on Friday, April 8, 2016.

Important Details:

  • Membership Card required at check-in
  • Must be staying at a Disney Resort hotel during the event to book

Just my guess but MK capacity is way bigger than TL so I think that is why they don't require an onsite reservation for the MK event as they can accommodate both onsite and off site guests. I didn't go last year but if I recall correctly the beach bash did require an onsite reservation last year so I would think that it probably does again this year (especially since the info announcing it says so). Maybe call MS back again to see if the posted info is wrong or if the person you spoke to was just mistaken.

I did not know they had Beach Bash(s) last year. I thought all the 25th anniversary DVC events were "new/special" perks just for this year.

I did not doubt the people who said it was held last year, and I am glad it is being offered again.
I just feel it is less of a special 25th anniversary perk, if it was also offered last year.
Again, not complaining, but with all the hype about the 25th anniversary, I thought everything that DVC listed was new.

I double verified with MS because we attended last year's Beach Bash and knew that you had to be staying on property for those dates. MS reiterated that you did not need to be staying onsite to attend any of the 25th events even though it said it; she stated, "we want as many as possible of our DVCers to be able to attend".

Our quandary is to either book an additional night at either the campground or a value resort so we can attend or just buy the DVC anniversary tickets with the water park and park hopper option and not upgrade to annual passes (as planned) since we would only be able to do Platinum ($$$) not Gold.

stupid stupid question. we have plat season passes so I know we r ok, but say for someone who has regular tickets without water parks and are dvc members. do they need to purchase water park tickets for just that day then?

thanks!

The website specially says its for guest who have a wdw resort reservation. It doesn't say that for the mk event, but does for the beach bash. Visit the dvc website.

I called again yesterday b/c I had twice been told by MS that the website was in error and you did not have to be staying onsite. You DO have to have a current reservation onsite to attend. We are there June 24-29, which means we cannot attend on the 23rd and potentially on the 29th since according to a manager at MS we would be checked out when the event occurs. Frustrating for us.

We are evaluating whether to forgo the event, buy the Anniversary tickets and go to the water parks anyway, or change our dates which would cause a split stay and loss of a great car rental deal, but we would also then upgrade our non-anniversary tix to Gold APs. The Beach Bash last year was a great opportunity for my fair skinned, red-haired crew to really enjoy a water park. Ha!

Is this beach bash something that has only been advertised on the DVC website? How did you find out about it? I have received nothing from DVC about it...

It's on the website under member perks. I also received an email about the events.

I think I may have received an email, or snail mail on it, and I think it was covered in the Disney Files, but it only registered in my limited attention span when I saw it on these boards. Once I realized they were occurring, I found that all the 25th anniversary events are listed on the member website (see link below). Since you can get to the page listed below without logging in, I assume it is OK for me to post the link.

ETA: Sorry for duplicating wallygirl's answer. That post was not there when I started my response

We did not have to have water park tickets to attend last year. We were even able to go in at 7pm before the official party started at 9:30 without tickets. We just needed to be registered.

How competitive is it to register for the Beach Bash? If I call Member Services that day will I be able to reserve spots for my family of 4? Or should I get on the horn as soon as they open?
Thanks.
