Everyone/every family travels differently. I'm a small eater so you'd think the QS plan would make sense for me, but it doesn't. One of the things I look forward to at Disney is the restaurants. I don't want to eat QS for both my meals every day. Not dissing the QS, it's just not how I want to eat. However, when we were traveling as a family, I looked at the DPs several times. Even "free" dining cost us about $200 more than when we were paying OOP, UNLESS there were character meals involved. I think if you are doing several character meals, this is when the dining plan makes sense.

We did a Free Dining discount back before Covid when you got a TS, a QS, and a snack every day with a deluxe booking. It was so much food and I will never really know if it was a bargain or not. It was nice to not have to worry about food when we got there but we probably would have ate less and saved more with the 30% room discount.
For our trip in June we are staying on a cast member discount for our room so we didn't qualify, but having to have park hoppers (which I never get) and paying rack rate would have been a big stop for me. Plus I end up wasting so much food, I'm not a big eater and my ability to eat varies day to day. Somedays are good and I can eat at least a kid's meal but other days it's 3 bites and I'm done. This June trip I will be splitting a lot of meals with my kids or just getting a kids meal.
