Be aware if traveling to WDW within the next few days

We are leaving in two weeks and I am TERRIFIED of this thing!!!! I have been reading all of these horror stories and now we are stressing! One of my sons seems to catch these things at least once a year (so far not yet) and it just stays with him. I have stocked up on Wet One's and hand sanitizer, I plan on being very vigilant against this thing. We are still worried that (by what I have been reading) there is no real way to prevent it. My kids love Disney World and I am praying that this won't ruin our trip. To everyone who has gotten this terrible "thing", I hope you feel better really soon!!!

I reported on here that my husband had gotten this on Thursday ( we had arrived on a Sunday) and was out of commission from the onset. We left on Saturday and he was a lot better, although not 100%.

The evening he got this, around 6:05 pm (we were waiting for our Soarin FP time of 6:18 that's how I know right about what time cause we never made it onto the ride). Anyway, earlier in the day about 1:30 to 2 pm after we got our FP, we went onto The Land boat ride. In the dark part...I said oooohhh the tunnel of love (LOL) and we had a few (passionate) kisses lol I tell you this because I never got the illness! He was sick 4 or so hours later and I have no idea how I didn't get it if it was airborne. I of course was very worried about getting it especially because of the kissing just hours earlier, but it just didn't happen. Possibly he picked it up on something he touched or even eaten. My point is that although there have been reports of familes getting it one by one, just wanted to let you know neither my son nor I got it from my husband. I would say go and have fun! You can'tg predict if you will get it so just keep your fingers crossed and take the normal proper precautions and try to put it out of your mind! Have a great trip! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

We just got back yesterday after a full week at VWL. As much as I wiped hands, tabletops and highchairs at restaurants, washed, dried and hand sanitized our hands (ds-4, dd-1, DH and myself) all day long, both of my kids got sick. DH and I thought for sure we too would get it after sharing dessert almost daily with our kids. My dd got sick at MK on NYE. We headed back to VWL earlier than planned only to have my ds up at 3 am sick too. Luckily, it ran it's course quickly and within 12 hours, both were feeling fine and ready to head out for the afternoon and evening. Our immune systems must be more built-up but we weren't the ones kissing the characters at every chance!! At least for us, the experience was a quick but icky one! There is only so much you can do. I teach and it is the time of year this illness spreads quickly.
excuse typos...spellcheck isn't working and I am a horrible typer!!

I am a medical professional and a tip to everyone going for the next few weeks... continue with the hand washing, wipes, etc., this virus can stay active in a host for 2 weeks post illness  so it can linger (cast members and resort staff for example). But don't let it stop any of you from going! You encounter MRSA and other equally horrible germs everyday, just wash those mitts, especially right before eating! Stay healthy and have fun!!!

In all honesty-I would really hope that if you got sick before you went you would stay home! I know it sucks to be sick-even more so when on vacation-but people, you're just spreading it more! Let's face it-if someone makes it to the bathroom it can be contained there-but if you don't & it's on the bed or on the carpets & housekeeping really doesn't clean the carpets exactly where it happened-it's still there! No one wants to be sick-even on vacation.

Good luck to everyone traveling while this bug is going around. My kids both got a stomach virus and had to go to the hospital during our May 07 trip. Hopefully this bug will move on soon!!!

Our FL disneyworld trip was between 12/26-1/1/09. My husband has been having diahrrea for three days and experiencing fever and vomiting. The day before his sickness, everything we ate were from the park, nowhere else.

So, it sounds like you are saying that he got sick from the food in the parks. Just so you know, food poisoning doesn't include a fever.
Sounds like another Noro case.

I am fricken going to wear latex gloves and a mask when we're there in a couple days. :confused3

Did ya ever notice how just reading this for an hour makes you feel queezy!! LOL.

I know it!!!!:lmao:

Continued prayers and good thoughts for those headed to WDW or those currently ill. The whole immunity thing must be correct.... I've been around several people over the past two weeks who had just had the bug the day before and I never got it.:confused3

Had visiting relatives from 12/27 - 1/3/09.

2 adults, 15 yr old, 13 yr old & a 7 year old.

Both adults got it. The kids were fine.

Just a quick question for everyone that has and has not gotten sick from this bug.

Of all of you that did get sick, how many went to Blizzard Beach or in your resort pools?

Same questions for the lucky ones that didn't catch this thing.

Heading to WDW in 2 1/2 weeks and would hate for the kids DD6 DS1 to get sick.

Thanks.

Everyone BUT me was in the pool at the Wilderness Lodge, and none of us went to BB. I was the only one who got it.

I don't think it's the pools, those things have enough salt and chlorine in them to chew through a bathingsuit in a week...

1 adult and DD10 went into the pool before they realized they were sick. Chlorine is supposed to kill Norwalk though so I doubt they caught anything from the pool or left any germs in the pool.

We are back home but as of 5am, my wife is now the 5th person in our group to get it and I talked to my mom a while ago and she thinks she is getting it. Although I only vomitted twice on new years eve, I am still feeling theeffects of it. I hope I get it out of my system soon.

We had NOT been in a pool, prior to DW getting sick. We never went to BB.

We all swam at BWV and OKW but I don't think that had anything to do with it. I have a feeling someone was sick in the room we got at OKW. It had very strong bleach smell when we checked in. I have never smelled that at Disney before.

We washed our hands till they were raw and cleaned, wiped, etc but we still got hit.

I felt like I jinxed us. On Tues 12/23 we were setting in the lobby at WL after dinner and I was looking at this site on my iPhone when I saw the news line about the illness. I was reading it to my family and then later that night is when the nephew got sick.

Awww, don't think you jinxed everyone. Germs are just evil. They would have been on EVERYTHING you all touched, and he was probably just the first one to wipe his mouth with germy hands.
Hope everyone on this board feels better soon!!

I leave in 10 days and am a little nervous, especially since I'm travelling alone. However, that might have its perks since I won't really have anyone to spread the germs too!! I'm just going to disinfect my room when I get there and bring my own blanket (which I do anyways) and just enjoy my time at Disney!! I think I'm going to stop looking over here at this thread...just to rest my paranoia for a few days LOL!!!!!!!!!!

We just returned from 10 nights...8 people....2 one bedroom villas at the BCV's. On purpose I DID NOT spray or wipe anything in the room and NONE of us got sick.

Let me add: We are not big eaters. When I see the line for the "turkey legs", mickey bars, popcorn, pizza, etc...it makes me wonder how much of the vomiting is due to overeating. I'll bet many folks are eating foods they don't usually eat in the middle of the day and then pay for it with upset stomachs. We stuck to our normal diets as much as possible and were fine. The weather was beautiful every day!
