Hi All!
I'm new here, but a die hard Disney-holic/veteran! My Dh & our 3 kids (4,10, & 12) Hve been grappling w/ quite a dilemma! We ALWAYS have stayed on the monorail @ GF, last yr, we stayed @ the Poly. This yr, DH wanted to stay & Y&BC, so we're @ YC Concierge. BUT...now here's the dilemma ...DH REALLY wants to buy @ the BCV @Dis. Vac. Clb... What are ANYONE's thoughts?
Has ANYONE ever been disappoined after having purchased DVC?
How about being disappoined w/ Y&BC locale? I feel we've been so spoiled(& loving it) by staying on the mono, that I'm utterly confused. How is the Y&BC/BCV locale? How about the BCV? Are they as lovely as the pics look? We will be happy there?
HELP!!!! Any advice welcome!

Check out the DVC forum for more info on DVC. We just bought extra points at BCV about a year ago and will be taking our second vacation there this summer. We own most of our points at OKW, plus some at VWL. We started out with 175 points and added on four times. We now have 500 so we can go twice a year.

I'm a DVC owner at the BWV (210 points) and the BCV (250 points). I love both!

I've also stayed at the GF concierge and non-concierge, as well as the YC concierge. Given my choice I'd take the BCV any day! You'll have privacy for mom and dad, the soaking tub is to die for at the end of the day.

I'm sure there are some people who have had buyers regret after purchaing DVC, but my guess is that 98% are extremely happy with their purchase. There's an entire area on tese boards for DVC, you might want to check over there and ask people the good and bad about it.

I can't help with the BCV or any DVC questions, but I can offer my opinion of the Epcot resorts location :D .

Our favorite park at WDW is MK. We thought we would never want to stay at an Epcot resort. We previously stayed at WL, then tried AKL and the Poly on our family trip last year. Then, in November, DH and I went by ourselves to celebrate our anniversary. I just loved the look of the YC when we had walked through, so I talked DH (who was really opposed to the Epcot location) into staying at the YC. Not only did we fall in love with the resort (it's our hands-down favorite :D ), but we fell in love with the area. It was so convenient, and beautiful. The next time we go back, our first choice for a resort will be the YC.

We love the Epcot resort area too!

With a family of 5, you'll need to get a 2 bedroom at BCV. Maybe you could rent points to stay there a few days before deciding? Financially, it probably makes sense to buy before your next trip, but it's good to try it out first.

Beware the DVC forum! They'll have you convince to buy in no time! :)

Actually three are a very few dedicated studios/1BR's with a small daybed that would sleep the youngest child comfortably. You must reserve when booking.

We travelled in October with our 2 children and a babysitter and stayed in a 2BR Beach Club Villa. We are a well-travelled family and I will tell you we are SO SPOILED now! I really don't think there are more lovely and convenient FAMILY accomodations around. You will have an abundance of privacy, convenience, and meal options if you stay here. It is a 3 minute walk to Epcot. The pool is the best in WDW. Your kids will love Beaches and Cream and you will likely enjoy the wide array of evening entertainment and dinner options in the Epcot area.

Our best secret is to go during the F&W festival in the fall (low crowds/beautiful weather) and the Flower Show in the spring (low crowds beautiful weather). We take a big jogging stroller and a duffle bag with a change of clothes. We have a blast at the pool in the morning, give the kids lunch at Beaches and Cream, change, put the kids in the stroller. and walk to Epcot. The kids are zonked in their stroller. We then have an extremely peaceful lunch eating and drinking our way half way around the world showcase, and fitting in whatever other entertainment we can, then hop on the monorail. The kids usually wake up once we get to MK, in time for a parade and some rides. We can then do dinner either at MK or Epcot. Either way take the monorail back, do the other half of the World showcase, Illuminations, and then it's a 3 minute walk back to the room and you're in bed at a decent hour! Or, if you have an Epcot view room, you can watch from there of course. I'm sure this concept could be varied depending on your family, but the idea is that, because everything is so close, it is easy to combine great pool/great food/ Epcot/monorail and MGM because everything is so accessible from this location. You can always rent points if you are not sure about DVC, although this would be a big waste of money if you ARE pretty sure ( you essentially go for free once you join).

I can't imagine this could have worked out any better. Everyone got the right amount of food, rest, exercise, water and entertainment! Plus, with a full kitchen, everyone could sort of get ready at their own pace in the morning, no more commando getting everyone to an over-priced breakfast... also could pack lighter because of laundry facilities in room.

Good luck with your decision!

... have rented points for 3 stays at the DVC resorts and am hooked! We've stayed at WLV, BWV and BCV. Although the MK is my favorite park too -- and although I really liked WLV -- my hands-down favorite is BCV. Being in the Epcot area, especially with older kiddies who enjoy Epcot and MGM, is a wonderful advantage. There are just soooo many things to do in that part of WDW! And BC/YC are two of the nicest resorts around, imo. The pool facilities, for both young kids and older ones, cannot be beat and quality of the restaurants is fantastic. Being able to stay in a place with a kitchen can save time and money and being able to soak in a jacuzzi tub after a long day of touring the parks is awesome! It's also great to have all the room that a 2-bedroom affords -- so much better than a regular hotel room!

Whatever you decide, I hope you and your family have a great vacation! If you have further questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Take care,
Sarah

To Invalid_Char -- I am so glad to hear GREAT things about staying in the 2 BR BCV. I took the plunge and got one for 6 nights in July. I am having panic attacks thinking about HOW MUCH MONEY I am spending to stay there!!! We would need two rooms because we have 4 kids if we where to stay anywhere else on Disney property. I LOVE the BC and it is cheaper to stay in the Villa than getting two standard rooms (I think). I can't wait!!!!!

BarbaraMB - you will love the BCV. And you will be spoiled for anything else. Prepare to purchase DVC.

Thanks. I can't wait. By the way, are there any "bad views" from the BCV? (Where all you can see is cars parked in a parking lot) I would also like to ask if I am staying 6 nights, how often would I expect to see housekeeping? I just would like to know when to clean up and when I don't have to. Since I am asking questions here, how long of a walk is it to SAB? Is there an arcade room? Do you get the same service at the BCV, such as asking for extra towels, etc? I am sure that I will probably come up with many more questions before July. I am nervous and excited. My husband HATES going in the heat so I am hoping that staying at a really nice place for him to cool off and relax will make things easier.

1. Some of the views aren't great, but none are really bad.
2. The 4th day you will get trash and towel. They will replace the towels, leave a new supply of soap, shampoo, tp, etc., and take out teh trash and recycling. That's it.
3. Five minutes at the most.
4. Yes, there is an arcade at Beaches and Cream by SAB.
5. No. If you want extra towels or shampoo or pretty much anything you will be charged for it.

WOW - I am paying so much to stay and I have to pay extra for towel?!?!?!? I knew about limited housekeeping but not that we couldn't request extra towels!?!? I have a VERY VERY picky husband that likes to take 2 showers a day with fresh towels. Maybe I would be better off with 2 rooms at the BC instead of a 2 bedroom villa. I really don't care about the towels but he will complain that I spent too much money for not enough service. Have anyone been disappointed that they had to clean up after their family everyday?

You get a washer and dryer in the unit (you need to supply the laundry detergent and dryer sheets though) so you can give him fresh warm clean fluffy towels anytime he wants them.

That's why they are called "Home Away From Home".

You will have almost double the space in a 2BR over 2 regular rooms. You will also have a fiully equipped kitchen and washer/dryer. Yes, it's more $$, but there are a LOT more amenities! You aren't really paying for the service as much as you are paying for the amount of space and the in room amenities. Like the jacuzzi soaking tub in the bathroom...

I would NEVER trade a 2BR for two regular hotel rooms. There's no comparision.

And I never have to pick up after my family--we all pick up after ourselves...even in a hotel room, we don't leave a mess for the housekeeper, we all work together to keep it neat.

I might have missed it, but are you renting points or paying with cash? If you are paying with cash aren't you entitled to daily maid service? That is what I thought I read somewhere.

... a DVC owner, you will definitely get housekeeping (with fresh towels) every day. If you have rented through a DVC owner (which, btw, is MUCH less expensive than through Disney reservations), you would only get limited housekeeping (trash and towels on day 4, complete cleaning on day 8, I believe). You can also pay an extra $6 (I think that's what I've read) for a complete set of fresh towels per day and if you wanted your 2-bedroom villa cleaned every day, I believe that costs somewhere in the neighborhood of $45 extra a day.

There are definitely trade-offs with any place, but imo, renting points through a DVC owner and staying at BCV is the absolute best option! I stayed there once (in Sept.) and loved it so much that I'm returning with my family (and my mom too!) in May for 5 days. Despite the fact that we won't be getting the daily maid service, I think we'll be fine. The resort is so lovely that even if our room isn't spotless (or far from it!), it doesn't seem to detract from our enjoyment of staying there... You will absolutely love it, I'm sure! :)

We had a great view when we were there and are hoping to be as fortunate this time. We had an Epcot view on the 5th (I think) floor pretty close to the elevator that takes you down to the quiet pool. It was a little bit of a hike to the main lobby, but very quiet and enjoyable. I think the higher floors, closer to Spaceship Earth are better in terms of the noise factor, though a bit farther from the BC and Epcot entrance.

Hope you have a great stay with your family,
Sarah

WDWPHANATIC - Call me crazy but we are't using points and we aren't DVC owners. I made the reservations through Disney. This is why I had been concerned. Does Disney know the difference? I just know that my husband isn't going to understand that we are paying so much money to be a Disney resort guest and we aren't able to get the same benefits. I could live without the daily housekeeping.

Sorry Barbara, I didn't realize you were paying cash through Disney. In that case you will get daily housekeeping, and can probably request extra towels without an additional fee.

Anne

How would I find out if I get daily housekeeping and fresh towels? Doesn't it seem so trivial? But being on vacation I would like to do as little as possible.
