Does anyone know the last time or the next time the BCV rooms will be updated? I keep reading how dated the rooms are. With that said we plan to stay there during our next trip regardless. I'm just curious. The location and the pool make it our favorite resort.

The decor at BCV is not the same as the BC. The BC is decorated like an upscale, high dollar beach resort. BCV is decorated like Grammy's beach home at Cape May, NJ. So it isn't dated, it's themed. Big difference.

Plus they replace soft goods all the time and repaint when needed. But the look doesn't change. Even OKW with the first renovation since in opened in 1992 happening in 2011 didn't change all that much (except for colors and bedspreads). VWL opened before BCV and it hasn't had a complete refurbishment yet either. We pay for those so they don't happen with the same frequency as the Disney owned resorts.

We own at BCV and have stayed there the last 4 years. They did a pretty big refurb on the rooms about 20 months or so ago.

Then Grandma's got some serious cash!
Sorry, couldn't resisit a Samantha Brown moment. Anyone else remember that?

I remember a few years ago getting a studio that was so sad looking. I tracked down the maintenance manager and told them that if that stuff was sold on ebay mousesurplus, I'd send it back! Ironically, I got the same studio last year and the whole unit was ***** and span new. We've never had a serius issue with things looking old except that once.

::yes:: I still have the WL episode on DVR, but they haven't aired the BC episode in years. I actually think I have a copy on VHS, somewhere! hehe

I find this interesting since the sales guides are constantly hyping the "deluxe resort" experience even though this is your "home away from home." I wonder why DVC chose to go this route. It was the deluxe resorts that sold me on the DVC concept. I found SSR to feel very old granny in its decor also.

It's not "very old granny"; it's themed.

It is themed to be a comfortable home away from home, like a private cottage you may rent. It is not supposed to have a luxury resort theme, even though it shares amenties with the deluxe resort. DVC is your vacation HOME, not a hotel room.

We avoid luxury type hotels with the kids.
Too many things to break and sharp corners to bump little heads.
We love the Home feeling.

I guess it is a matter of opinion, but I think the BCV looks quite dated. The refurb was mainly upholstery that is designed to take a beating. The themeing just needs to be updated, not abandoned. Also the extras like pillows and decorative objects have been removed. Finally they just installed.some of the cheapest, tackiest kitchen appliances on the market. Unbelievable, really, for any "deluxe" condo. We have owned there since it opened and love the location and pool areas, and we try not to let the other stuff bother us. I also wish they would lose the artificial flowers in the lobby - really could do a live arrangement without breaking the budget.

Granny's (my) Cape May NJ home is just fine, thank you! I love BCV & our home! We also have the print of the NJ coast in our home, BCV has it in the dedicated 2 bedrooms, maybe in other villas as well!

agreed with this statement. Everyone talks about how its themed of Grandmas Cape may getaway cottage....but times change and grandmas getaway cottage at cape may isnt the same anymore as this one was themed off of Theres a new era of grandma's and how things look, we arent in the 70s anymore.

The BVC could be updated wholely with the new but keeping the same theme, they just choose not to to probably save money.

But who pays for these updates? Not WDW. The members pay for them with the funds from their annual fees. So if you are a member at BCV and you don't mind funding the renovation, let DVC know and I'm sure they would appreciate your funding the rework.

I agree, renovations are paid by member dues and I don't think they would want huge increases for upgraded decor. You are staying there for vacation, not living there permanently. Someone mentioned upgraded appliances. If they work during your stay, what is the difference?

we know the argument of we have to pay for it out of dues, was just making the point of the theming, however if you think about the dues we all pay
what are these dues really going to? Take the beach club for example.
Im sure over the last 10 years we owners have all paid millions and millions
worth of yearly dues, but what for?
ok, we got a very VERY soft rehab, once, that for argument sake, may have cost a million in itself, 200ish rooms x drapes x some new cheap dinner ware x new lights, etc....ya it prob didnt cost much
Next biggest thing we get is a paint job here and there, so say thats another million and then theres the little things, and by the looks of the rooms there arent that many little things they have done, heck, the same k-mart chairs and table are still on the balconies from day one.
So wheres all the other money going?
I dont tthink its safe to say that the anual dues we pay equal the amount
of repairs, updating, and maintenence they do.

its not just appliances though, its the overall theme. The theme they are going for is completly outdated. Its a catch 22 though cause the beach club
itsself is a sold out dvc resort, has been for a long time so why would they bother updating to attract new members, they've got us in thats all that matters...though the dvc side is financed differently than the regular resorts they did a ttremendous theming upgrade to the regular resort to reflect the day and age that now resembles the beachy theme of a new era recognizing that it was out of date, They prob do feel that the DVC side is out of date but noone wants to pay for it....
take away titles, the beach club is stil the beach club, if they recognized the front resort was out dated, without the DVC name on the back resort they would have updated the DVC too

however, that DVC room does have a theme to it, and that theme they created is out of date whether or not we pay for it or whether or not its a "vacation home".
