The past few years we have gone to various DVC resorts in the summer without going into the parks. We just want to take some time to enjoy the resorts (pools mainly) without fighting the crowds and heat in the parks. IT has worked very well for us and we plan to continue this in the future. We have 4 kids (19, 14, 13 and 12).

This summer we picked BCV because it has alot to do outside of the amazing SAB with Boardwalk so close. Everyone talked about SAB and we were not disappointed.

Before I go into detail about our trip, I want to say how friendly the various CM were at the resort and everywhere we visited. I would say that it appeared they were actually trying to be extra nice to customers.

We live in Chicago area, but came down from St. Augustine on Tuesday morning. MIL lives in St.Augustine so we spend a few days there, then to Disney for a few days. We had three nights in BCV.

Day 1 had us checking in about noon, room wasnt ready yet so we did a quick look at SAB and then headed to one of our favorite places for lunch, Earl of Sandwich in downtown Disney. We love that place. Majority of us got the cannonball (meatball sandwich) but we also got the tomato mozzerella sandwich and my youngest got the turkey sandwich. All very good. We headed back to BCV as our room was ready. I was a bit disappointed that our request for as high as possible on the Epcot side was not granted, we got room #224 a two bedroom kind of on the Epcot side. There were no other rooms available and we werent going to spend that much time in the room so i didnt push it. The room was very clean and for the most part everything was in working order. We left a small list of things that we thought needed some attention with the front desk. We had a huge balcony that stretched across all three rooms of the villa. It was a great view and the sun wasnt on that side of the building in the afternoon which made sitting out there quite nice. We headed to SAB for some pool time. I have to admit, SAB was pretty impressive. It was about 3pm and I was really figuring it would be more crowded than it was. No problem finding chairs and the slide only had a few people in front of us each time. We absolutely loved the sand bottom. The pool had so many different spots to go that we could always find a place for the six of us to hang out and goof around without interfering with others. Hurricane Hannah's had a nice list of drinks available and the staff was very polite. After a few hours of swimming we walked over to ESPN club for dinner. Being that we have 4 males in the group, this was a no brainer for us. The four boys could sit there all day long! On top of a great fun atmosphere, the food was very good. Wings, burgers, chicken sandwich and Philly cheese steak were all devoured! We got out of there just in time to view the Illuminations fireworks from the bridge leading from Boardwalk to BCV area. Nice spot to see the higher fireworks.

Day 2 was some of the same. Started out with breakfast in the room with cinnamon rolls, cereal, bacon and eggs. We love having the kitchen area to do breakfast. Easier and helps save a few dollars. We headed straight to SAB and spent the majority of the day there until the rains came in the afternoon and they closed the pool area for a bit. Lightning causes them to close it and this was one of those days. We took this chance to head to the outlet mall area for a quick run through some of the stores, followed by dinner at TGIF. This night was the adult night as the parents headed over to JellyRolls about 9pm as the kids stayed swimming and heading over to Beaches n Cream for a late night snack. I want to thank everyone on the DIS boards for the tips on Jellyrolls. We had a great time. We had Ray/Scotty and Mike/Matt as our dueling pianists for the evening. I would say that we liked Ray/Scotty better. We thought they had better chemistry and worked well with each other. Very solid evening and the Big Red Cup did not disappoint!

Day 3..... more SAB throughout the day. We wanted to get some of the magic even though we werent going into the parks so we made reservations for Whispering Canyon at Wilderness Lodge. We headed to the transportation center and took the monorail over to MK, then the boat to WL. This was a bit of a tease getting this close to MK without being able to go in...... For dinner we all got the canyon skillet which is an all you can eat skillet of ribs, pulled pork, beef brisket, chicken, mashed potatoes, corn on the cob.... the meal was average. Dont get me wrong, we ate ourselves to the point where they needed to roll us out of there, but it was just okay. We always did Ohana in the past and wanted something different. Prices are about the same when you get right down to it and we enjoy Ohana better. our server was very .... uh... boring. We have been there before and had servers that really make the night fun and active. Ours wasnt. I know it is for sure that you will get someone that is fun, but it sure helps. On top of that, she really wasnt a good waitress. If we needed something we always had to find her rather than her find us. I did mention something to the manager at the front when we left that she wasnt very good tonight. We got back to the TTC just in time to see Wishes. Headed back to BCV and hit SAB for a quick dip in the pool before it closed.

Day 4 we were getting ready to leave, really hate this day. Packed the car and then headed to SAB for a few hours of swimming. Got lucky and got an inside table at Beaches and Cream for lunch. We had their ice cream on the take out side a few times and loved it, but wanted to try lunch. We were not disappointed. The cheeseburgers are made fresh and were very good. Not to mention you can get a few different things for dessert compared to the take out menu. Two fudge mud slides and a strawberry shortcake were up and quickly taken down. We changed and headed over to downtown Disney for some quick shopping before heading back to St.Augustine for a day before we head back to Chicago later tonight.

Overall we were very pleased wtih BCV. Our home resort is SSR and we have spent trips at AKV also. We like all of them but BCV has alot to do and for the summer, SAB tips the scales as the best pool on Disney property.

I will post some pics once I get home.

:)Sounds like a wonderful family time. We stayed at BCVs last year for my granddaughter's birthday and had a 2br on the 2nd fl. as well, however, it overlooked the quiet pool and we loved it! Thanks for sharing and looking forward to your photos.

What a great family trip you had. We always go to Beaches and Cream. It's my families favorite dessert destination. Sounds like you had a lot of fun.

Here are some pics from our trip.

I have put four of them in this thread and then at the bottom is a link to some of the other pics from our vacation.

This one is of the wife and myself sitting in two of the chairs in the BCV lobby.

I have looked on parkinfo2go and wondered about room #224. I, too, have requested to be higher floor, somewhat close to the main bank of elevators, Epcot side dedicated 2bdrm. Is this room a dedicated room with 2 Queens or the pull out? I hope we also get the large balcony. Can't wait to wind down the day with a glass of wine on the balcony. Glad you enjoyed the view.

We are only a family of 4: myself, DH, DD18 and DS11. ESPN is a definite for us as well. The boys are die hard sports fanatics.

Thanks for the post!

Thanks for the report. Sounds like my kind of trip. We are leaving in less than two weeks for OKW with our two teenaged sons and two of their friends. My husband and I only plan to do parks on two days. The kids will get length of stay passes and can come and go as they please. :hippie:

Sounds like a wonderful, relaxing vacation. The pictures look like you were having a fun family time. I hope the drive home to Chicago is/was safe!

Thanks for the report! We are planning a June trip to Disney next year (hopefully) and I am toying with the idea of renting points to stay at the BCV. We have never rented points before but years ago we stayed at the BC. SAB is an awesome pool and I have to agree about the sand bottom = WONDERFUL!!!!!! Our youngest son (14) will love the pool I do believe. :) Any information on renting points would be appreciated also. On a side note, I'm ready for this heat to break here in the Midwest. I guess its just a reminder of what the temps will be like in Florida next year. :rotfl2:

It was a dedicated 2 bedroom (no lockoff) but it had one queen bed and one sleeper sofa in the second bedroom. Pillows and blankets are in the beds now, dont look all over the room for them like we did...lol

The room is the southmost part of the Villas section which is nice as you are closer to everything being there. You can walk down the stairs (which are right outside your door) and out the exit door and you are right by the walkway which goes to Epcot or the back entrance to the main building.

The view ended up being a non issue as we were never in the room at 9pm anyway.

ESPN does some live shows there at different times. Be sure to check that out as they were asking questions and getting comments from those eating. I am not sure if the show is actually broadcast or not, but it sure was fun!!! And the food was excellent.

Glad you enjoyed the trip report. I have more photos and such so if you are looking for something specific, let me know. Although I think the various sites have all the pics covered. It really is a beautiful resort and the pictures dont do it justice.

What a great picture of you in those CRAZY chairs in the lobby.

Wonderful trip report and great pictures. We love our non-park trips. I keep telling folks that there is so much more to Disney than just those parks. I'm glad to know another believer! :thumbsup2

.

What type of shows?
Thanks

We were there on Tuesday night last week and they were doing a live show with two sports casters from 6-7pm. Had the cameras going and were doing some talking on the stage and then going into "the crowd" for some answers and questions as well. This was the day of alot of the free agent signings in the NFL so it was all NFL talk.

I have been there about 10 times over the years and at least half of them have been during a time where they have been doing some types of shows. I have never found out if they are broadcasting live, or are just podcasts or what....

But they surely are fun to be part of and watch!

Sounds like you had a great time. Looking forward to a non park trip one day.

sounds like a great trip! we really enjoy "non-park" trips - so relaxing!!

did you drive straight through home to chicago? we are leaving in 6 days from chicago burbs, going to try to drive straight thru this time instead of taking it in 2 days...will see how it goes - if one of us gets too tired while driving we'll have to stop and sleep.

Thanks for sharing your trip with us. It sounds like a wonderful family trip for a wonderful family. :thumbsup2

My wife and I have thought of a resort only trip and as soon as we get this "I've got to see everything at WDW" thing out of our system, we will. ;)

We've never stayed at BCV but it is high on our bucket list. We love the location.

I am intrigued by the non-park trip idea. I do think that just laying by the pool and relaxing and touring the other resorts would be awesome. We're discussing that for our anniversary trip. You've given us some great ideas!

Great trip report! Sounds like you had a wonderully relaxing vacation. We too would like to experience Jellyrolls someday as well as some R&R instead of running rampant through the parks. :rotfl: Our kids are 3 and 5 so we HAVE to hit the parks, see the parades and atleast meet some characters or they will be crushed. Great pics!

At first the non park trip was looked at by our teenagers as complete torture. Hwever, after the first year (this is our 3rd summer doing this) they really have started to enjoy it. We started it to simply save money instead of doing a stay-cation at home. It creates some great bonding time between our kids that we dont get at home or if we do a disney park trip. Like most families, between sports and activities, we are run run run all the time. This was potentially our last trip as a full family as our oldest is off to college this year and who knows what will happen in the summers from here on out.

Wife and I are headed down to SSR for 8 days in early December celebrating our 20th anniversary. So this year we will have a non park trip AND a non kids trip!!! The kids have filed an official complaint with the Disney Police :rotfl:

We did drive straight through from Chicago, however, we drove to St. Augustine to my MIL's. We have done it straight to Disney, but normally make a stop off first. For us it is about 16.5 hours road time, or about 18 hours total. We leave in the mid afternoon and stop and grab dinner somewhere. Kids watch movies and then fall asleep. We have a full size conversion van so for us room isnt much of a problem. We switch drivers about every 3.5 to 4 hours which lines up roughly with fill up and bathroom break time quite well. We enjoy the drive. For a family of 6, driving compared to flying and renting a car is a no brainer from an economical standpoint.

Jellyrolls... we cant wait to visit again in December!
