We are taking my mom and grandmother for their first ever trip to WDW this summer. My aunt and several grown cousins will be coming as well.

My family and my BIL's family have all young children.

Our current ressies are at SSR (home resort), but we are nearing the 7 months window. IF there is availability at both BCV and VWL, which location would you choose?

If it were my family only, I would go with VWL since we spend the majority of our time at MK. But I started thinking that maybe the "grown ups" in the group would prefer BCV location?

Which would you choose and why?

I would choose BCV for its location. You are within walking/boating distance to 2 of the major parks plus the Boardwalk, which is an attraction unto itself. There is also Stormalong Bay, which is a spectacular pool complex. There are also a lot of dining options in that area, with the Boardwalk and the entire World Showcase almost at your doorstep!

If it were just going to be DH & I, I would go to the VWL, as I think that is a more serene spot for a relaxing, tranquil vacation. Or, as you said, if it was just your family and you spent a lot of time at the MK, then being close to it would be a plus.

The BCV location is a little bit more grown-up because of its proximity to Epcot, the Boardwalk and MGM. In addition, the theme is much more summery and the pool is wonderful. I'd go there in a heartbeat.

Thank you both for your suggestions. We just LOVE the VWL, so I guess I needed a little convincing to stay elsewhere :)

But if you are looking for adult recreation, you are so close to DTD and Pleasure Island. You have tons of shopping available, plus the spa and golf course. Rmember that your reservation will use more points at BCV vs SSR.

I had the same dilemma for my extended family vacation this coming May. So I decided on the following itinerary:

Sat: Wilderness Lodge
5:30 Pm arrival at Airport.
Check into Wilderness Lodge
9:30 Hoop de doo at Fort Wilderness

Sun: Wilderness Lodge
Magic Kingdom day. I thought the family would enjoy the boat ride from Wilderness Lodge rather than the SLOW bus from Beach Club Villas

Mon: Beach Club
Group leaves bags with bellman to transfer to Beach Club and heads over to Epcot. I go to Beach Club and check us all in, while they enjoy epcot. We meet in Epcot and then walk over to BCV when it is ready.

Tues: Beach Club
MGM Day

Wed: Beach Club
Last day to do whatever group wants.

I initially was opposed to switiching hotels, but I decided it would be nice for the group to experience both, and the proximity of MK to Wilderness Lodge was just too good to pass up. The grown ups can still enjoy the boardwalk on our Beach Club nights, and with this plan we have very little bus time since BCV is so close to Epcot and MGM.

I like the woodsy theme in the winter, and the beachy theme in the summer.
Somehow, as much as I love the WL, I don't seem to enjoy it as much when it is 90+ degrees outside.

I vote for BCV.

It's so close to Epcot and MGM plus the kids will have SAB.

Good luck with your decision. I have been struggling with where to stay for our extended family trip. We will need 5 studios and a 2 bed so I will probably stay with OKW, although I still struggle with the newness of SSR and wanting to blow them away. Of course I would have prefered to stay at VWL or BCV but the points are probably more than I want to do and the parking lot is just to far away at VWL.

If the points were not a consideration and the parking lot was not so far from the resort I would have definetly stayed at VWL with BCV being the second choice. Actually if it just wasn't for that parking lot I probably would have ignored the point difference. I just love the look of VWL and feel like I am in a totally deferent place when I get back to the park. I know the family would have been blown away!

Now DS, who is 13, would prefer BCV's. He prefers the pool there and loves Beaches and Cream.

So VWL is my first choice with BCV second and SSR third.

Have fun!
Lori
