We just returned from a 3 night stay at the BCV. We checked in at 9:30 and of course the room was not ready- we certainly didn't expect it to be. The CM told us that we would be called on our cell phone when the room was ready. So off we went to Epcot and strolled around. Then we ate at a few booths at the F&W. Around 1:30 we went shopping for some food and figured that if our room was not ready we would ask a CM if we could store our perishables and then hang out at the pool. Anyway after we shopped, the phone rang and it was a CM telling us our room was ready. We went up to the room and discovered that it was a HA room. Neither one of us wanted to stay in this room. We like having the sink outside the bathroom and the alcove to get ready to go out. We also like having a bathtub. This room just seemed so much smaller than a regular studio. So I called the front desk and informed them that we would like another room. I was told that they were sold out and that there were no other rooms available. I said that we made these reservations 11 months ago and I did not request a HA room. He said it didn't matter when I made my reservation-rooms are not assigned that way. I reminded him that we also checked in early. Anyway after speaking to 2 supervisors a regular studio materialized. I hated being so negative- but we really didn't want to stay in that room. I learned my lesson- all reservations will be a non-HA room unless We are traveling with someone who needs one.

I'm with ya on this one.

We have been surprised twice with an HA room. We didn't request to be changed and regretted it both times.

I really don't like the shower situation. Everything gets soaked.

I'm hoping we get a regular studio in December.

We are at the AKV right now and have a HA room. I didn't even think to change rooms. The bathroom floor is soaked. Next time this happens, I will make sure to call and see if we can move.

We had that situation in May with a 2 bd. I actually checked in at 6am and the room was not ready until after 5pm. The bathrooms didn't bother us as much as the super low king bed. After that my first room request is always non-HA.

Been there, done that, not gonna do it anymore if we can help it. Ruined a perfectly good train case on the floor of the bathroom in a studio because it got soaked. Also want my safe, wasn't one in the VWL studio.

We had a HA studio at BWV once, and managed to soak the floor every time one of us showered. We ended up asking for extra towels just to mop up the floor every morning. :sad2:

We've also had a HA king room at POR, and the water there NEVER escaped from the shower. I think it was because that shower was very long and narrow with the entrance on the far side from the shower head, and the water just didn't make it that far. The setup in general was much better than the HA shower at BWV.

What have they done differently in the other resorts from OKW? We ended up in a 2BR HA lockoff at OKW last month, and all I could think of were the reports I had read on here about water all over the bathroom floor after a shower. Turned out to be a non-issue at OKW, both in the 1BR portion of the unit and the studio. I put a folded towel just outside the shower, but it didn't get very wet at all, and there was no water beyond that. They must not have pitched the showers correctly in subsequent resorts?:confused3

What type of room do you have: studio? 1BR? How is the bathroom set up? I've looked at a number of floor plans for AKV and haven't seen any with roll-in showers, which was puzzling because I was expecting to see some HA rooms with that sort of bathroom layout. A number of people have asked about the HA rooms at AKV so any info you can provide would be helpful. Thanks!

The HA at Pop have a threshold that prevents the water from getting all over the floor. If that's all it would take, why don't they just add this blocking feature to all of the HA rooms?

OK I own at BCV. I know the Studios, 1 bedroom and 2 bedrooms but what in the world is a HA room???

Ok, as someone who routinely uses a roll-in shower (I cannot do steps of any kind), I just gotta ask... how are you people soaking the floor?!

I take long hot showers (30 min) and sit on the fold-down bench. I've used the handheld up on the rack and in my hand. The most water I get outside the shower is from my feet as I step out. Seriously, any water is a major trip hazard for me and sends me into paranoid mode.

So exactly what are you folks doing?

Perhaps you don't know how to properly position the curtain liner. It should be inside the shower, with any extra material laid toward the drain. I've noticed with the longer liners placing any material outside the shower just causes water to drip down and outside.

BroganMc, I do not recall the shower curtain reaching to the floor, nevermind with some extra to fold over toward the shower drain. In March, we had HA room at VWL, our first with DVC, and the floor definitely got wet, in the main portion of the bathroom...this did not happen at Pop. That had the threshold, but I also used some extra towels to put down on the bathroom floor, just in case.

Handicapped Accessible.

and I take it these HA rooms only have a shower?? I really like tubs, so when I go, I need to be sure and specify NOT HA??

The shower curtain in the BWV HA studio we had definitely did not reach to the floor. I had read reports here to make sure you aim the shower wand towards the back of the shower stall if you want to keep the bathroom floor dry. It's not easy to do this because the shower stall is not very big and the wand holder is mounted in the middle of the wall. You end up having to cram yourself into the back corner between the shower seat and the wall. Not pleasant at all, but it did keep the floor from getting wet. And since I love a good soak on vacation, I really missed having a tub.

We've never had shower curtains that reach to the floor at BCV. Even if we did, I'm not sure my daughter would be able to position it correctly...takes a fair amount of fine motor control I would think.

Anyway, one problem can be that the drains aren't clear enough. As a result the water backs up and overflows the little berm. So it might make it worthwhile to check that it is draining well upon checkin and if not, have it addressed before the first "true" shower.

I stayed in a HA studio at BCV once. We checked in late (10:30 PM) and they had that room or a smoking room. We settled for the HA room. Not only did we have water all over the floor when we showered (we used extra pool towels to sop it up) but almost all of the storage in the bathroom was removed. We barely had room for our toothbrushes and I had to put some stuff like hair brushes on the floor. The management at BCV said that we could change rooms the next day if we wanted to ... but we didn't. The location of the room was excellent! We were only a few doors down from the main BCV lobby on the first floor. We were just steps away from the DVC pool and access to the rest of the resort. We also had a patio which made it easier to walk out and see IllumiNations from the walkway behind the villas.

While I would prefer a non-HA room the next time, the HA room really wasn't all that bad. It certainly wouldn't be worth escalating it past two supervisors to get a non-HA room. That's way too much stress on the start of a vacation!

I suppose this is the way we feel about the VWL HA studio we had in March. The location wasn't as good as you describe, it was 1/2 down the long hallway, so not a dumpster view.

However also you are describing the lack of space in the bathroom or anywhere for putting things!! However, like all studios now, it had a DVD player, and we were just in a relaxing sort of mode...it worked for us.

Yes! I like to soak also and a tub is important to me. It is important to both of us to have a place to put our toiletries. We both felt that it would really be uncomfortable to stay in that room so it was worth it to go through two supervisors.

Ah, I see.

The SSR showers are probably the best I've ever seen in the industry. They are roughly the same shame as a bathtub stall but the opening wall is only halfway open. The part that's solid wall contains the mounted shower seat. And in the closed corner the showerhead is mounted on an adujustable metal pole (you can raise, lower, swing the showard head sideways or lift it off the hook for handheld use). The lip is simply a little sloped threshhold and everything is done in the same tiles as the rest of the bathroom. The shower basin is the usual curved inward to drain design. Also the shower curtain is about 2 inches longer than the height to floor.

Maybe I'm getting spoiled with SSR's design. The older resorts might have some pretty antiquated designs. Alas the only way to deal with those is to not run the water long. (Get wet, turn off the water, lather up, wash off and repeat.)
