There will be a total of 5 of us going on our Sept. trip (including my 4 year old son and ~22 week pregnant self). We will be driving from Tennessee (~11 hr. drive) and plan on arriving at WDW somewhere around 6 pm.

We have a package at the BC with dining/tickets and I am wondering if it would be more feasable to stay at a different place for that first night and then go check in the next morning at the BC or just go straight there.

My concern was by checking in so late we would not be able to obtain a full balcony room (will need my alone time away from son during naps and LOVE being able to sit out with a book on the balcony). Does it really matter when you check in? If I am unhappy with the room location, can I stay a night wherever they place me then request to move to another room later?

That first night we are going to be slugs anyways and probably just go to the pool or maybe DTD (I am voting for the lazy laying by the pool thing)! :)

If you check in at 6PM, undoubtedly, your room will be ready for you to move into. If you check in at 8AM, your room will probably NOT be ready to move into until 3PM or later. Does that make a difference?

I'd check in at 6:00 PM. Your room will be ready and before you leave the front desk, ask if your room has the full balcony. If not, ask to be moved to a room that does have one. As you said, you might have to wait until the next day but if you are going to have a take it easy kind of evening, don't unpack everything (you might want to pack one small bag just in case you do need to switch rooms).

I fully understand about the full balcony. I requested one as well for my husband and his newspaper reading in the morning. We did get ours with no problem at all (standard view).

When we just stayed at BCV we requested a 1st fl as DW likes to sit out and drink her coffee in the mornings. This way there was no problem with the full balcony as the patio did just great so thats another option for you.

Thanks! I will check in on Sunday and request a patio or full balcony. If it's unavailable, I will ask to be moved the next day (a whole lot easier then moving stuff from one hotel to another and re-checking in)! Thanks!

Be sure to have the request on your reservation too! That way when they assign the room they will hopefully be able to honor that request - then double check at check-in :)
