BBC coupling coming to America

I am absolutely in love with the BBC show, "Coupling". It has the funniest, though quite risque lines around. But I am hooked. It is on very late night here and I watch every time, even if I've already seen the episode!

Anyone that has seen it will appreciate phrases like, "The Giggle Loop", "The Sock Gap", and Steve's speech on cushions.

NBC is going to launch its own American version of Coupling...

Anyone else excited? Anxious? Hopeful?

I really just need to buy BBC version on DVD...beats staying up till 1:00am just to get my fix.

I heard it is supposed to (eventually) replace the Friends timeslot... like Good Morning Miami was but I think their ratings suck. LOL.

I've never seen the BBC show but I've heard tons of great things from friends about it so I'm looking forward to this one.

I'm a huge fan of coupling on bbc america, but am not looking forward to the american version at all. I saw a clip from it a couple of months ago on entertainment tonight and it was word for word the pilot for the british version, at least the bit I saw was. Why bother, when it was done so brilliantly already????

The sock gap had me streaming tears I was laughing so hard! LOL! I tease my 17 month old sometimes when he's just in his socks and his diaper, lol! he has no idea what I'm talking about, but I can't help but think of it. I haven't laughed so hard at a show in a long time as I have with Coupling and The Office.

heard they were going to do an American version of the office, too.

I have never seen it but I have heard good things about it. The first season of Coupling is available on DVD so I added it to my Netflix queue so I will watch in the next few months or so.

I couldn't agree more. The reason this show works so well is not just the writing, but the chemistry of the cast. Why mess with what's working? I'd prefer it if they would just give the same production budget to the existing cast and crew to give the show that "prime-time" look. I think Americans would watch a show set in the U.K. Everything doesn't have to be in New York!

another problem I see is that the british version is 30 minutes no commercials, so 40 minutes with. They will most likely be cutting a lot out.

also, did you notice "Steve" in Pirates of the Caribbean? I laughed every time I saw him on screen, especially when he gave certain looks or talked with a certain inflection. Gareth from The Office was one of the undead Pirates, so funny.

Maybe we'll get lucky and they'll super-size the shows again. I know my Tivo would be set to catch an Office, Scrubs, Coupling prime time Thursday, even over my beloved Survivor. Though, maybe I'm in the minority here.

There is no way the american verison is going to be the same as the british. Way too much innuendo and sexual talk, which of course makes it so great. Also, if you combine the 3 existing seasons you just get a single american season. Also I hate the casting, the american version is all the Hollywood pretty people, not real, which makes the british version work.

That being said, it might be interesting to see how they take the same situation and play it on american TV, but I'm guessing it will be more Friends and less Coupling.
