We recently did a split stay at BLT and POFQ. I wanted to share my thoughts, observations and pros and cons. Hopefully this will help someone make a decision between the two.
BLT- we were on the 3rd floor room 7308. We had a studio. We could see the fire works from our room and had a partial view of the lagoon. We had some trees in the way. The trees may not be an issue if you were on a higher floor. It was about a 10 min walk to Magic Kingdom which really did come in handy one of the days when we dressed warmer than we needed to. We were able to go to the hotel and change. Also, we had breakfast at Chef Mickey's so it was really convenient to get up and walk over to the Contemporary. Pros: Close to Magic Kingdom, Could ride the Monorail to Epcot. Could watch fireworks from our room and through out the resort.

Cons, no drinks machines in BLT had to walk to Contemporary, not a very big variety for breakfast, room was small and only had one queen bed. The other bed was a fold out couch. Bus from Animal Kingdom also stopped at another resort before stopping at Contemporary. There are no buses for Epcot. You have to ride the monorail to the TTC and switch to another monorail.

POFQ-We stayed in room 3232 which was a corner room.
Pros-It was about a 2 minute walk to the food court. Had 2 Queen beds, room was bigger than BLT. Bathroom had a 2 sinks and a curtained area separate from the bathroom. Room has a ceiling fan. Breakfast had made to order omelets and a larger variety of choices. Dinner had a larger variety of choices. They serve Beignets. If you have never eaten them you need to try them. They offer a nice carriage ride for a fee of course. Its a very small quiet resort. Most of the time the bus service is just for this resort. Nice boat ride to Disney Springs.

Cons-cant walk to Magic Kingdom

Obviously our vote for the future goes to POFQ. Hope this helps someone that may be trying to decide between the two. I understand everyone has different needs and what may be a con to me may be pro to someone else.

I think one of the big factors you are leaving out is the price difference between these two experiences. I assume your BLT stay cost more than POFQ. I love POFQ however, I have stayed at BLT and it certainly does have it's perks. The walking to/from MK is great. Also, being connected to CR is great.

I would love to know if you thought the difference in price allowed you to experience something else at WDW that you wouldn't have had the money for if you stay at BLT or another Deluxe the entire time.

That doesn't surprise me. We felt similarly last year with our Kidani/POR split stay. And we like POFQ even better than POR.

Out of our last 4 trips FQ won twice (POR the other 2). I just love how compact everything is at FQ and the boat to DS is just another ride to the girls.

We stayed at BLT a few years ago, but wouldn't rush back. It was very convenient being able to walk to MK, but the resort doesn't really have any Disney theme, you have to walk over to the Contemporary to feel you are in Disney, and for food and drinks. We visited at Christmas so definitely wanted to feel the Disney love. Being able to use both pools was a bonus though (even though Contemporary guests are not allowed to use BLT's pool). We are working our way around the world, with our first moderate booked next week so it's be interesting to see how it stands up against deluxe for us. (FYI did one night at AoA and it definitely wasn't for us).

Yes there is a big price difference and that's why we only stayed a few days at BLT. I didnt feel that for the price difference that BLT offered any more amenities than POFQ. The food was better at POFQ, and the room was bigger and nicer and more of a Disney atmosphere. I had already planned out my trip and knew what we wanted to do so the price difference didnt keep me from doing something I wanted to do but I could see how it could affect the budget. I was glad we had the opportunity to experience a new place but was glad to be at POFQ our favorite. I don't see us staying there in the future.

I totally get that. Sometimes I come down for a long trip and want that Deluxe experience. Other times, generally shorter trips, I like POFQ for price and what it offers.

We did a split stay in March between AK and POR and we liked POR a lot more than AKL. We like that POR is spread out because we like to walk and we loved running along the river. I will say that POFQ is still our favorite for now. We are trying POP in Feb so that might change.

Bay Lake Tower has almost the smallest studio of all the DVC resorts. And it is definitely the smallest sleeping area of all the DVC resorts. They put a lot of space in the bathroom and kitchenette, leaving little for the sleeping/living area. I'd never do a BLT studio with more than two people.
