Bathroom items (liquid) in checked bags?

I know they don't allow certain amounts of liquids in carry-on bags, but what about in checked luggage. I was thinking about sending it all through that way, but someone told me items may explode in my suitcase. If I put everything in ziplock bags or garbage bags inside the suitcase, would that be OK? Or what types or items would be a problem? Thanks.

How much stuff are you taking? A garbage bag? :rotfl:

Seriously, you can check as many liquid toiletries as you'd like. I do put mine in a zip-lock just in case. I've had things open--not explode--just from getting josteled around. I recently hear a great tip--use a piece of masking tape to tape down the cap on all your liquid toiletries to keep things from leaking. Masking tape is easy for you to tear without needing scisors, and will still work in extreme cold and heat situations, plus will still work if it gets a little "damp."

Explode? unless we are living in the 1970's and everything is in aerosol cans, I doubt it.

My year to date mileage is now over 100,000 miles flown - and only one small leak that I can recall which was due to a cap not being put on tightly onto shampoo.

I don't use a ziplock OR tape; just use two $2 toiletry cases I found at IKEA (which work better than my expensive leather Dopp case)

But as Anne says, to be safe you may want to go the tape route just in case.

Your allowed to know bring gels and liquids in 3oz bottles in your carryons as long as they're in quart sized ziploc bags.

As for checked baggage, anything goes, and nothing is actually "required" to be in a ziploc bag or garbage bag.

Airport regulations change rapidly. I flew the day of the "shampoo" incident over in the UK, and that morning had to throw out about $30 of goods.

Best bet is to pack all products into your checked luggage in which ever preference you prefer!

Just back and I packed tons of things in ziploc bags in my checked luggage and I didn't have any issues with anything. I always feel safer using the bags just in case.

since the liquid ban, I pack all my toiletries in my checked luggage. I put each item in a ziploc baggie then into my toiletry bag, just in case something leaks. I had no problems when I flew this past August. I don't even bother witht the 3oz travel size in a quart size baggie....honestly ~ I could never on this earth fit everything I need in a quart size bag! Contact solution, shampoo, conditioner, moisturizer, sunblock, deoderant, makeup, hairspray chapstick etc, etc :rotfl: the fact that some people can actually fit everything they need in a quart size baggie for carry on blows my mind!
