Basing decision on reviews?

I never pick based on reviews. Just because someone else loves/hates a place doesn't mean that I will love or hate that place. For instance, I will never stay at POR in Alligator Bayou again because it's too far away from everything but others love the feeling of seclusion. I do use reviews for non-Disney hotels, but the problems that crop up at normal hotels (like cleanliness, rude staff, etc) rarely happens at a Disney resort. I select on location, price & amenities and if I can scratch it off my list of places I have stayed.

I tend to look at reviews on trip advisor and other sites who really don't "have a dog in the race" so to speak. I find particulary in Disney forums you will always find those that seem to think a resort is fabulous..NO MATTER WHAT. It is after all a Disney forum, that's why most of us are here to begin with.
Although, here you will find a plethora of information and incredibly detailed insights. You just have to keep in mind your own preferences and standards.

It all worked out. Unofurtunately the POFQ was all booked but we are happily booked at POR. I think I posted this but I'm sure we will be very happy in our "Royal Rooms".

My goal is to stay in every resort! We did ASSports once. It was clean, affordable, convenient and certainly suited our needs for that trip.

We loved POR! The only downside we found was the massive hike it was from our room to the front of the resort. Every moderate is designed with giant lakes that you have to walk around. I know it's part of the Disney plan for crowd flow but we are talking a 15 minute walk just to get a cup of coffee in the morning. That being said, the food was great. The pool is really fun! There's a fishing hole. And I just loved that bayou music playing every place we walked :) I would stay there over the SSR again. Not that I didn't love the SSR too, but POR was just the right amount of fun and crowd for us.

Posadagirl - I would like to try different resorts too. We have only ever stayed at the Wilderness Lodge and we loved it. My girls wanted to stay there again but I pushed for a moderate to save money and I think it's nice to try new places.

I also made ADR's at several other resorts so we can see the inside of them too.

As others have said, I think it's best to make your decision at a Disney resort based on how much you like the theme.

We stayed at CBR a few years ago and read so many negative reviews about the size of the resort for "walk-ability," buses take forever, etc. I was so worried, because we had two very little ones with us and didn't want to schlep the stroller all over the parks and then come back and do the same thing at our resort.

This was hardly the case when we got there! We absolutely adored CBR and are, in fact, staying there again this October. The pool is amazing and the beach theme is so great and so much what we love as a vacation "ideal" that we had a terrific time. The size of the resort and the bus service complaints were completely blown out of proportion.

(In all honesty, now that we've stayed at POFQ, my family would prefer not to go anywhere else EVER, but there's just no availability and CBR is our close second.)

POFQ has darling theming, cute (if slightly outdated) pools, and a very small and relaxed feel. However, we read a ton of negative reviews about POFQ, as well!

You can get yourself worked up into quite a lather about just about anything, (trust me, I about did over CBR) but I would take it all with a grain of salt, relax and enjoy your vacation choices!

Have fun!
