OK, our first trip to Disney is in May 2008. Do we need to book all our TS meals, or just the character meals? I have my husband and I, three kids (15, 12 and 5), and two adult family members going. Should I consult everyone and see where they want to eat each night and reserve, or should I just worry about the character meals, which we might just do one or two. I figure, use the snack credit for breakfast, CS for lunch and TS for dinner. I'm so confused, maybe we should use CS for breakfast, grab a quick snack for lunch, and be hungry for the TS dinner.

I probably really need to get with the other adults going and see what they want to do. Any recommendations?

I would have everyone look at sites with menus, www.allearsnet.com & www.ourlaughingplace.com. And then decide May is little slower but if their is a place that you really want to eat at then you should make ADR's. Places we tried to get into once we were at WDW tis past May & Could no t were Konas, WWC, France

We almost always visit WDW in late April or mid May and have seen many people get disappointed trying to get into a decent TS place without an ADR, especially inside the parks.

Character Meals are a definite must-ADR. :thumbsup2

TS lunches are easier to get as a walk-in, but TS dinners are a must-book too. We ourselves have been turned away from many places, last year we struck out with Mama Melrose's, 50s Prime Time, and Hollywood & Vine (we were at MGM later than anticipated). Year before that we were turned away from several places in Epcot and from a couple on the Boardwalk before giving up and eating pretzels and lemonade for dinner. :sad2:

I can totally understand how hard it is to book ADRs for a group in advance, especially if there are multiple adults involved (kids will almost always eat anyplace), but even if you don't want to book every dinner ahead of time, make a note to at least contact Guest Services once you are in the park each morning to secure a dinner reservation - and in that case, be prepared to settle for your third or fourth choice especially on weekend nights. At least that way you can be more flexible on what park you choose each day, but still have arrangements before it's 'I'm starving I don't care if we eat napkins with ketchup!' time. :headache:

Having done DDP and not done DDP several times each, I would say hold on to the CS for an 'early' lunch - and either bring oatmeal/muffins and juice for breakfast or use snack credits for that. Of course, having a later-ish ADR for a character breakfast buffet can be good too. It's just that unless you are doing a character breakfast or Kona for the Tonga Toast, breakfast is kind of a 'waste' of a credit in that the OOP expense for paying for the items would be lower than if you paid OOP for CS lunch (or for 'extra' things to fill in the holes left by the 'snack-credit' lunch option).

What if both families pick half of the places you want to eat at and just get them booked? It is easier to cancel a reservation than to wish you had one. We were there this year in May and ended up with extra TS credits and the only place we could get into before 9:30 at night was Nine Dragons......My husband thought I was nuts so he called back and by then even the 9:30 was gone. With so many people planning ahead you have to be prepared to avoid the 'where do you want to eat-I don't know what do you want-' and then being left with nothing.

180 days out is coming soon. Be prepared.

You also have a large party size. 7 is much harder to make ADR's for then 3 or 4.

I agree with the PP. Have a planning sessions, go over some choices, see if anyone has anything they really want to do and book. You can always change later, but being on the DDP, you don't want to be in a position of not being able to use them.

Break up the group too if you want. I sent my parents with my DB, DSIL and 3YO niece to H&V character lunch with jo jo and friends. Not my cup of tea, but the little one had the time of her life!:dance3:

I print out the menus, and we all decide where we're interested and then make the ADRs. If not, we'll probably not be able to eat at those places once we get there. They do tend to book very quickly.
