Getting confused. Booking a February 2015 trip, staying at the Boardwalk Inn for 3 nights. Which is cheaper: Purchasing a Basic Package OR Booking the resort with a Room Only Discount Code (when codes are available to public )/buying tickets separately?

I personally have found booking room only and getting tix from ut is cheaper
Even in times of free dining, I find it can or can not be worth it based on ages and eating style

A basic Magic Your Way package includes undiscounted room & tickets & would cost the same as purchasing tickets & a room at rack rate seperately thru Disney. Usually, if you book with a room only discount you can add full price tickets, making it package. That would of course be cheaper than a regular MYW package. Booking a room only discount & buying tickets separately thru AAA or a ticket broker would be cheaper still. Last year, Disney offered Stay, Play & Dine, which was a discounted package that included room, tickets & dining.

We are 2 adults who stay club level deluxe. A room only discount is always a better deal for us vs Stay, Play, Dine or free dining which might be a better deal for a family. You really need to work the numbers for each available option to know what is the best deal for your family.

That is what I thought. Never could undertand why some posters get excited over the announcement of the releasing of the package deals, when the majority of the time (excluding free dining maybe), it is cheaper to purchase everything separatey. I thought I was missing something. Thank you for your replies!

I think some people enjoy the package because it comes with discounts and coupons to use around Disney.... as well I think it's a convenience thing as you don't have to worry about buying tickets separately from UT and then linking them up.

Two additional thoughts - pro and con. Booking package at rack, not looking for or waiting for discounts is both convenient (less time consuming) and pretty well guarantees you get the resort of your choice.

On the other side of the ledger, package rules or less forgiving than RO (for example, 5 day no penalty cancellation, RO; versus 45 for package).

Of course there is serenity in "being done" and watching the fun?/anxiety of those of us still on the quest.

It's all a matter of preference, IMO. If someone wants the DDP, that requires a package (DDP works for some, but not for others). You can also apply a room discount to a package as that doesn't apply to just RO reservations (discount would be on room portion only). There are pros and cons to both types of reservations depending on how your family vacations. I, personally, have never found outstanding deals for tickets through UT. I have gone to their site as well as through a link from Mousesavers and have yet to come across amazing deals like others seem to be finding.
